After reading all the contrasting comments, we had a pretty divided opinion on whether we should go for the Urus private tours. in the end, we are happy we decided to take the tour with a local private guide. We arrived at the little church the day before, and the only person who attended us was Mama Rosa. Honestly, we were skeptical at first, but since we didn't have too much time in Puno, we decided to do the guided tour with here anyways. The tour was honestly amazing and very enriching experience. Mama Rosa was very kind to us and showed all the cultural heritage of Urus. She took us to her island, showed how the islands are made and also introduced her hand-made crafts. She wasn't pushing us at all to buy her crafts (unlike previous comments), and that was a big relief to us. Not sure wheter this is always the case, but we were lucky on that regards. We visited the school, which was very interesting to see, and ultimately went to a very simple restaurant which nevertheless served a really delicious trout. The plates are 25 PEN and honestly worth each penny, especially for knowing that we are contributing to the local community. All in all we found the experience amazing and totally worth the tour with Mama Rosa.

Report Check-In

Absolute Sales Show! Mama Rosa pulls all strings to make you buy souvenirs. The tour is cheaper than others, but we felt so pressured to buy stuff that we couldn’t enjoy the tour.
The tour is about 2,5 -3h but you will be dropped at a restaurant island for 1h of that.

Report Check-In

although we enjoyed the tour, i think it is oversold here on ioverlander. you do/see the same things as with the big tour companies but in smaller setting. and that makes sense, this is a tourist company after all. it is a nice tour but ask to NOT go to the restaurant. very low quality food for double the normal price.

Report Check-In

It was an incredible experience!
We were very well received by Yordy and Dina's family. We visited their family's floating island and the capital of the Uros Islands by boat, they explained to us about their culture, how the island is built and maintained and how they live. Mainly his mother Rosa, who accompanied us for most of the tour, whether welcoming us, showing us her crafts, piloting the boat and showing the strength of the Aymara woman. In the end, she even gave us a craft for our little house on wheels.
We slept on a football field in front of the church, for two nights.

We booked a private tour with Yordy to the Uros Islands. Yordy took us to the island where he lives with his family. He explained us how they live there, how the island are build, how the Uros-community works, why they islands were built... everything we wanted to know. Yordy explained everything very accurate. He also showed us the island where he attended primary school and where his son soon will join Kindergarden. We also visited another island where we could by some drinks and food. His little boy Jean-Paul and his younger sister accompanied us for the whole tour which was fun. We never felt like tourists, especially when we saw the big boats with more than 20 pax on it. Yordy is a great guy and he really likes what he does. We felt like good friends. The tour was ment to be 2 hours but in the end we returned after 3.5 hours (no extra price asked!!). Stll 20 pes/pp + 8pes/pp for entrance. Very recommended!!

Report Check-In

Did a private tour with Yordy and can really recommend. He is much cheaper than other operators at 20S but is super insightful and is happy to answer any questions you have. He showed us around his island, his house and took us around the islands with the school and restaurant. He does show you the local handicrafts that his family make but there is no pressure to buy. Can recommend Yordy super highly!

Report Check-In

10/10. Had a fantastic day with Yurdy! Recommend fully. He picked us up, we saw his family’s island and he explained their lifestyle and how they make the islands. He took us to the main island for the restaurant if we wanted it. Really really nice man! And great experience.

Report Check-In

We only got in touch with Yordi in the morning and were able to do the tour a little later. (20+8 SOL) Absolutely recommendable! Yordi and his family are great. We did the tour with his sister and his mum and both were very helpful and spoke in easy to understand Spanish. Very interesting what we learnt about the Uros on our 3.5 hour tour. First we visited the family's island (there is also a hut to stay overnight) and then we went to the tourist island, where there is also a small restaurant. If you want, you can take a reed boat to the second island for 10 SOL per person or buy some nice souvenirs from the family. Nice experience!

Report Check-In

We texted Yordy (on whatsapp) in the morning and his response was very quick so we went on a tour only 1 hour later. He explained us everything in english and presented us the life on the islands. If you have questions just ask him and he will happily explain everything to you. We also tried their traditional clothes and visited island with school. As we were taking photos he slowed down the boat and even tought us some Aymaran words :)

All in all - really interesting experience for 28 soles pp. If you want to experience Uros, visit it with Yordy!

Report Check-In

My husband and I took a tour with Yordy and really enjoyed it. He was very responsive, friendly, and professional during our conversations ahead of time and we were able to take our dog.

Our private tour lasted about three hours and was never rushed. We visited the island of his family, where we received information about the Uros islands and how they were built. Yordy's mom, Rosa, invited us into her home and presented her handiwork.

Regarding Yordy's English, it is good enough to learn about the islands, but when you have questions, it's better to pose them in Spanish. Don't forget that English is his third language, after the local Aymara language and Spanish.

Next, we took the boat along a few more islands and visited tiny, touristy Capital Island, where we had 40 minutes to eat or drink something. It has a (pricey) restaurant, tienda, and lookout tower. We returned home by 1pm.

It was a fun, interesting, and affordable tour (still 20 soles per person for the guide and 8 soles per person entrance fee for Uros) and we fully recommend Yordy as your guide.

Report Check-In

We made a tour with Yordi and can highly recommend it! We contacted him the day before and he replied immediately. We paid 20 soles pp plus the entry of 8 soles pp. The tour took about 2-3 hours and we visited Yordi's home island, a main island with a restaurant, where you can eat if you want, and the school. Yordi explained a lot with his good English and we really enjoyed the tour. His family also showed us their handicrafts, which is of course an important income for them, but never forced us to buy anything. So it was a really interesting tour and it is absolutely worth it. Yordi and his family were very welcoming and we absolutely recommend a tour with them!

Report Check-In

We contacted yordy via WhatsApp (+51975365314) the day before we wanted to go on the trip and he responded immediately, and we agreed to meet here at the church at 10:00 am. It was just the two of us, but we still only paid 20 soles per person and 8 soles for entry to the islands (including Capital Island) for our private tour.
We highly recommend yordy and this tour - he was very friendly, very informative and he can speak some English if you don't know any Spanish. He took us to the island where some of the schools are, his family's island (where we got a real introduction to Lake Titicaca and the history of the islands), and Capital Island (since we opted to have lunch). We also got to ride the puma boat for a bit, which was fun.
He shows you his house and all the products they make themselves (tourism is the main income for most families), but there was no pressure to buy. He also answers all questions and gives you a lot of information about daily life on the islands.
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing the tour with yordy - it was much more personal and cool than getting on a big boat with a lot of people, and we really liked yordy as a guide.

Report Check-In

Based on the mixed reviews here, we were not too sure about whether to book with Yordy or not, but we’re glad we did. We text him via WhatsApp the evening before and he was quick to respond and was ready at 10 am the following morning to meet us. Our tour was a little over 3 hours. We visited his private island and he gave a thorough explanation about the history, geography and construction of the floating islands. Always pausing for any questions we had. We got to play dress up and have our pictures taken on the puma boat. We flew our drone. You are invited to look at their house and watch Rosa, his wife work on her tapestries. Everything handmade and beautiful. Of course, one feels they should buy something- and I guess this is how they make their living! Bear in mind these are very delicately done souvenirs but they’re not too cheap. One large item 150 soles!!! There are smaller items of course. The tour itself is excellent value with just 20soles per head so we didn’t mind supporting them. We went for lunch (optional) at another island and ate Trucha Frita and a Pejerry ceviche- very tasty! All in all- a lovely tour- very tranquil and not touristy at all.

Report Check-In

Unfortunately, we didn't have the amazing experience from other reviews. The place to overnight is safe and people are nice, but it's a big mess with a place nearby full of human poop. Yordy didn't seem to have his day, maybe because there would be other people coming that didn't show up. He only told us a little bit of the Uros showing the map, but no more than 5 min explanation. When we had questions, he answered them slightly uninterested with a few words. We didn't get to see his island, but were shown around on another. Bought an way too overpriced but nice looking pillow case there. After, we went to the main island, got a coffee and Youry showed us around in a hotel they were building. Then he asked if we wanted to see more of the island, and we asked what would be nice to see. He said everything was the same and we felt he really wanted to leave. The tour was in total 1 hour and we unfortunately felt like a burden to him.

Report Check-In

Amazing tour with Yordy and Dina. It is a touristic tour, but they treat you like a friend. Of course they are selling handycrafts, but they don't push you at all to buy something.

The experience was awesome. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

It's still 20+8soles per person and we bought a small carpet for 25s and some coffee, bread and ice for 25s because we were expected to buy something. The tour was a bit inpersonal because I think we didn't visit his familys island but another one where he did not show us around. Also the tour took only 1.5 hours or so. But all of this is probably related to the festival that was happening the same time in town and that many people from the island went to visit (but he could have mentioned this when we booked). Having said that the whole concept and lifestyle is very interesting and we would still do the tour again even though we were slightly disappointed after reading all of the rave reviews about having an authentic insight on his familys island.

Report Check-In

Yordi is very nice and we had a great time. Tour was about 2.5 hours and very calm and relaxing. Took us to his island to learn about his culture then takes you on a tour of the floating village and to a restaurant, if you’re hungry.

It is his mother that wants to sell the souvenirs, not the sister. But she’s also very nice, not extremely pushy. But consider picking up something because the tour isn’t very expensive (20 soles PP) Souvenirs start around 50 soles.

Report Check-In

The beginning of this tour was great. Yordi does not speak much English and we had a better time communicating with him in Spanish. When we got to his family island he told us all about the the reeds and the islands. We decided to pay the extra for the reed boat which ended up being a bad idea. He sent us out on this reed boat with just his 12 year old daughter to try and steer it with one paddle. Which led to us floating in circles aimlessly in the middle of the lake. Then one of his other daughters came in a motorboat and tried to steer us the right way but couldn’t do it so she gave up and left. Then yordi came back in another motorboat and got us going in the right direction and sent his kids up to beg us for money(we did spend money on the crafts they had for sale already). I don’t know if this is better or worse than the other tours.

Report Check-In

Highly recommend this tour! It is great to see Uros and yordi is very friendly and explains everything well. We paid 20 soles per person plus 8 entry and bought some nice handicrafts. Parking during the tour in front of the church was safe.

we had a lovely tour today to yordy and dina's family island .we showed up at the little church in the morning and yordy was able to accommodate us.
Yordy and his family do a great job! We really enjoyed the tour on the Uros and we recommend it 100%, he invited us to the island of his family and even to his house, Yordy speaks English well. we bought some homemade crafts from Dina, but they didn't push us, super friendly and welcoming!
we were able to park the truck safely.
Thank you!!

Report Check-In

Interesting tour to Uros islands. We booked this tour because we thought it is a NOT touristy tour ... But be aware: YES IT IS a touristy tour! They bring you to the island and show you carpets and other artesanal stuff. And you should buy something, because "their children have to go to school". We did not expect this and were a bit disappointed.

Report Check-In

Indeed a recommendation During the last 2 years Yordy learned English - great! Price: now 20 soles pp + 8 soles entry fee
Duration: 2 hours / we visited only his family’s island, but you can visit more.
We arranged the tour via WhatsApp one day in advance. Yordy arranged also a taxi for us respectively a colectivo.
He and his wife are very unobtrusive, but this sister is a good business woman. Take some money with you, if you want to support his family by buying a nice handcrafted carpet. We did. We also guess retrospectively, some fresh fruit would have been a nice hospitality gift for the whole family.

Report Check-In

Great trip with Yordi and Dina. It was raining in the morning and he said no problem waiting until it stopped.

He did mention several times that tourism is the only way they earn money, so while there was no pressure in buying anything, we felt for them and bought something.

Great trip all around!

We couldn‘t be happier with this tour! Yordy and Dina are great and we enjoyed this trip so much! Huge recommendation!

Very nice and informative tour. We visited the private island and the whole family was very welcoming, a great experience, much better than a fixed tour. We really loved it.

Highly recommend doing this non touristy, not expensive tour. Yordy and dina are gem of persons and their explanation of the floating islands was top notch. he speaks good English. All overlanders please get on the tiny boat with yordy to tour the floating islands. brilliant experience.

Super tour, Yordi did a great job. It was a really informative and familiar tour. Muchas gracias

Report Check-In

We highly recommend doing this tour! Yordi and Dina are so friendly and Yordi gives you a lot of interesting information about the life on the islas flotantes and the islands it selves.
Also Yordi speaks very clear and slow Spanish which made us doing the hole tour in Spanish, and we understood everything:)
Really you should go to Yordi and make the tour, We think it’s way better than the more crowded ones!

Report Check-In

Great visit with Yordi and his wife Dina. Very friendly and will never force you on any other extra to the tour (traditional boat tour, restaurant or craft to be sold) he gives excellent explanations on how the islands are built and let you in in his own house. Food on capital island is ok but not excellent (25soles for sopa + trucha frita or ceviche)
(FYI - Drones are allowed both during boat trip and on the island)

Report Check-In

We really enjoyed our private tour with Yordi and meeting his wife Dina. They are a lovely couple!
It was very interesting to learn about the history of the Uros people and how they make the floating islands, their houses and boats.

Good value for the price.!
Would recommend for sure!

We went on the tour with Dina and Yordy and absolutely loved it. First he took us to his private island and taught us all about their way of life and how they build and maintain their islands. We tried on some traditional clothing and had a few photos with them which we're good fun. Then he took us out and should us around the other islands. To be honest we didn't spend much time on the others as they were very touristy which was the complete opposite of Yordy and Dina's island. would definetely recommend going with them over a tour organised by a hotel or travel agent.

Report Check-In

We came here around 10am and were immediately greeted by Yordy's uncle. For 15sol he brought us to the family Island and to the capital. You can determine yourself how long you want the tour to last. Normaly you can go with Yordy who speaks English, but he already was on tour when we arrived. Very much recommend to come here. Yordy says you can honk when nobody is here. The family all lives around the church and can help you for a tour. We left our car here while going on tour. Felt very safe. Overnight stay is also possible for 50sol which includes dinner and breakfast and Yordy can teach you how they fish.

Very safe place to spend the night before a tour of the uros islands .
Yordy and his family are very friendly and make you feel part of their family.

We made the tour to the uros islands with yordy and dina. Its was spectacular and we felt we had a real and local experience. Your english is also very good.
Firt we visit a museum after its family island that is an authentic island than the other islands. Where we share more time . Then he took us the school and the capital of the uros, where we could eat. The tour lasted 3 hours and was worth much more than the 15 soles.pp charged by yordy.

Highly recommended!!

We had a lovely tour today to Yordi and Dina’s family island. We just showed up at the little blue church in the morning and Yordi was able to accommodate us. BTW we were a little confused because we only saw dry lake and the reed grass but there are indeed water ways out to the islands. The tour was very informative and the couple provided quite an authentic experience. Yordi speaks English well.
We did purchase some homemade crafts from Dina but this was not pushed on us.
Highly recommend their tour, we were able to park pur truck secure.

Yordy gave a wonderful tour! He's super knowledgeable about everything to do with these islands. He took us out to the island that he built and where he lives with his family. He gave a demonstration about how they build. He also took us to the school, and to the "capital", and to the museum (4 islands in total). S/15 each. Highly recommend him!

Just as the others have said: Yordi and his family do a great job! We really enjoyed the tour in the Uros and recommend it 100%. He invited us to his family's island and even into his house - super friendly and welcoming! He knows a lot about the Uros and explains everything very well. A great way to learn about Lago Titikaka and the Uros - probably much more interesting than going with one of the bigger tour agencies.

Very good visit in the Uro's Islands with Yords and his family. with 15/sol. pp. he made a great tour in his family's island. He explain everything.. how the comunity of Uros are organized. Showed us the schools the little hospital, and churchs. It's also possible to sleep in a house in the floating island (we didn't ask the price for it). Its possible to find him in this exact location, or you can ask for him in a house that is in the right side of the church in the town (near in this gps localtion). Now the church is Blue, not more yellow.
