Description

beautiful spot in the mountains next to the river. Unfortunately you are visible from the road. But there are only a few cars and we had a quiet night.

Awesome spot, only 4 tour busses go by between 7 and 8am. Otherwise random locals on motos but all friendly.

Good place before going to seven colours mountains. Safe quiet. In the middle of the nature. Possibility to do a fire. Ok for big rig. Road to 7 colours is ok with camper but some stones and need some motor power because of altitude. We have a camper 7,6m long with propulsion and double wheels on the back. And we passed without any problems until the end.

Pretty spot. As described. This is a popular spot for shepherds to let their sheep and alpacas graze. Sound of the river is nice. Boards are required to get level.

First motorcycle going up at 4:30am. In general, traffic goes up in the mornings and comes down in the afternoons. Quiet nights.

This spot is about halfway between the main, paved road and the top to visit the Rainbow Mountains, which is an incredible site and drive. We have a big truck camper (3.3m high, 2.67m wide) and considered taking the camper off here and driving up to the top, because the road here was a bit sketchy at some points - narrow without visibility nor pullouts. Happy we did drive the second part with the camper. It was no issue. The worst part of the entire road is the last 3km before arriving here, after you take the left turn.

Arrived here late afternoon. Several cars/buses/motos passed in daylight. In the dark…..nothing. Built a fire and went to sleep listening to the river. Peaceful night.

Nous avons dormi sur ce spot avec 2 autres familles de voyageurs car la route pour aller voir « The three rainbow mountains » est assez rude.

Beautiful spot! There’s even a little campfire ring! The sound of the river drowned out any car noise of the few that drove by. Could fit 2 medium-sized vehicles. At 3,800m it’s not as cold at night as up top. No cell reception. This spot is about 30 minutes from the main road, and another hour-ish to the top.

Nice spot, quiet night. First truck 5.40, first colectivo 6.20.

Lots of nice river campsites next to the road.. all the busses leave the rainbow mountains at 2ish so we showed up at four and had the whole place to ourselves. Sites are easily seen from the road but very little traffic and those who did pass by just waved.

Report Check-In

Nice spot. Flat enough pull out between the river and the road. River is really pretty in the canyon here. Quiet night with nobody driving by until 6am, and then nobody until 7am. We left camp to drive up to Polccoyo and only saw 1-2 colectivo type tourist vans and a few small cars. Polccoyo was well worth the journey.

Report Check-In

Level and quiet place to spend a night. The road is narrow and bumpy but we managed in our truck camper, even getting there in the dark. Nice sounds of river flowing. It took us about an hour to drive to the start of Palccoyo the next morning. Got there at 7:30 on a Monday and there were only three small groups hiking. Beautiful area!

Report Check-In

The Polccoyo rainbow mountains have become more famous over the years. Even after the pandemic with only few foreign tourists approx 15-20 minibuses passed in the morning. Nevertheless a perfect spot to stay before / after the visit. We stayed 2 nights.

Report Check-In

Great spot to stay at night. The first collectivo passes exactly at 7:30. 😁 If you start at around 8:00 you‘ll have a perfect day. It takes one hour up.

Report Check-In

Beautiful and quiet spot. Bumpy, steep and narrow road to get here but we made it in our 2wd van and had no problems even after rain.

very nice place next to the river - we arrived after midnight- easy to find.

Report Check-In

first collectivo transit passed by here at 7.30am.
no need to rush. between 7.30 and 8.00am there were 7 collectivos.
few people for such a big area to explore!
ideal time to leave this spot is 8.00am to get amazing pictures.
we had a quiet night
