Very annoying and it takes a long time.
First day bring your application. In the street are copy shops for copies and they can also help you to get the paper work right.
We had a mistake so we had to do it again the next day (permanent adress needs to be an adress in Nepal).
About one week later you have to go there again for an interview, or we and some others just had a phone interview.
Another week or so later you can bring them your passport and pay about 14.500 Rupees
Next day go there again for pick up.
People with e-visa can apparently use this to get back to India over land, at least it worked for others and they wasted three weeks of waiting and 200€ for nothing.
