Beautiful hike! We hired our equipment at Ponys Expedition (this place never seems open, but ring the bell often enough and with some patience you'll reach them). We really enjoyed doing it on our own instead of with a tour. We ended on sunday in Cashapampa, but unfortunately there were hardly any buses to bring us back. The one we found charged us 80 sol and no way to negotioate. Not a nice way to end the hike.

Great trek! If you go independently and plan to do the trek in 3 days I would highly suggest to start in Vaqueria and end here in Cashapampa because this way you'll have to ascend considerably less meters and also it might be harder to get a collectivo if you end in Vaqueria in the afternoon. I would also definetly take the detour to Laguna Arhuaycocha at Alpamayo Basecamp. We left our car in Caraz. Taking collectivos from Caraz to Yungay and then Vaqueria and after the trek from Cashapampa back to Caraz was straightforward. Trek is very well marked so can easily be done without tour if you're willing to carry your luggage (just use maps.me). It gets very cold in the night, pack accordingly.
Park entrance (60s pp for multiple days) we paid during the collectivo ride to Vaqueria, when the collectivo stopped at a checkpoint. We were not checked again at the trailhead or trailend.
