The people are very friendly but also very poor. The children don't have shoes. Please bring some food (noodles, rice, flour) for the community! People are very happy about it.

Very impressive waterfall! If you only visit one in the gran sabana, I’d put Aponwao on the shortlist! The “area recreativa” is partially abandonded, but there are still a few people around doing minimal maintenance. There is still an ablution block (showers + wc) that seemed to be clean and working. Camping is for free. Visiting the falls is either a 25min boat ride for 100us$ (per boat) - make sure to ask about that time an engine failed and a boat crashed down the falls 😲. Or walk 3km to the falls and an aditional 2km to pozo del amor (recommended) - one way distances. You still need a boat to get across the river. For the walk they charge 10$us pp for the river crossing and the obligatory guide(no value add, but it’s their only source of income). You’ll need a 4x4 to get here, sandy.
