Lovely lagoon, sandhill cranes galore. Quiet and peaceful with lots of space for a teardrop trailer. Stunning sunrise. 👍

Report Check-In

great lil stopover not far off i-10, I pulled in at dusk, the sounds of birds in the water was a great soundtrack

Report Check-In

Stayed here 2 nights. Fantastic! Close to I-10, wide good dirt road around lagoon, so many birds/fowl. The water is waste water (no, no odor) so don’t plan a swim.
Plenty of areas to pull off around lagoon. Minimal traffic. Mostly bird watcher.
No signs about staying, parking, camping. Only about not going in the water.
Loved it here.

Report Check-In

Came in at night and was the only one there. Packed sand but a little loose from the rain so be a little careful. Wide roads and plenty of space for cars and smaller RVs. Cranes were chirping all night but it was pleasant.

Report Check-In

Still good as described, lots of migrating Cranes.

Report Check-In

exactly as described - quiet, flat gravel area with tons of space. Saw a couple work trucks in the morning, but slept in the back of my SUV with no problems. The bugs kept trying to get in when I opened the door, so have some big spray handy.

Report Check-In

Amazing spot for an overnight. No signs. The road circling the lagoon is flat and wide. I parked my truck and 16ft trailer along the side of the road next to the water and stayed one night. Quiet, gorgeous, and nobody bothered me. One or two cars passed by in the morning - looked like other travelers/tourists. If you like birds, this place is a dreamland. Definitely a hot spot for all the area waterfowl. The sunset was unreal.

Report Check-In

Pulled in at 10:00 p.m. and found a birder parking lot next to lagoon with no problem. when I was visiting nature at 6:45 it was a surprise to turn around and find a pickup on the golf course behind me! can see two vans and a trailer on other sides of lagoon. not sure what access road they took.

Report Check-In

Very quiet night. Beautiful sunset, and sunrise. One other van last night, but there’s plenty of space. A few birdwatchers in the morning.
Added bonus….the village of Willcox has good, free public wifi. We stopped to do a few updates and it worked well near the railroad park.

Report Check-In

beautiful. I have a low 32ft RV, so I just parked in the very front and walked my pups around. Near the back there is a road that goes to a flat hard sanded area. I would only attempt with 4x4, but it's beautiful back there.

Report Check-In

A very beautiful, peaceful spot with populations of Sandhill Cranes, ducks, geese, and more. We’re spending the night with these glorious birds.

Report Check-In

Lovely spot! Lots of water birds. Couple of RVs here but plenty of room to space out along the road that goes around the lagoon. Full verizon bars.

Report Check-In

Flat, dry gravel area near lagoon. Thousands of Sandhill Cranes but several other species as well. Good for an overnight stay. Close to town.

Report Check-In

Amazing and beautiful! we are really happy to wake Up here! Bird, water and mountain! so peaceful

Report Check-In

Very nice, quiet. Très confortable, beau coucher et beau lever du soleil. Très tranquille, nous étions seuls.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot, with plenty of room. We pulled in around midnight in the rain and the approach did not feel right, as soon as we hit the sand we new we were good. Border patrol station a half mile away helped it feel secure.

Report Check-In

Nice quiet spot next to town. Stayed a couple nights no problem. Peaceful area around the water, great area to walk my dog around the lake with mtn views. Will definitely stay again when we’re back through the area.

Report Check-In

Interesting place. Gravel and sand road around a wetland/water reclamation lagoon. Many birds, and especially sand cranes when we were here. Very quiet and peaceful. A handful of cars drove past after dark. No amenities. ATT had LTE. Beautiful sunset and sunrise. Could be treacherous if muddy, but fine when dry. No issues with bugs.

Report Check-In

Amazing and as advertised during the day, But we were attacked by a million bugs at night. Opened the door for a few seconds and the van was full of them. I was surpassed no one talked here talked about the bugs but maybe it was a seasonal thing.

Report Check-In

Very nice spot! The ground was smooth enough for our two Prius’ to roll up. Only a couple cars drove by at night and a city worker drove by in the morning but no one bothered us. The views are pretty! Such a neat spot.

Report Check-In

Yes, ma’am! An amazing place with mountain views, bird watching, and big sky next to a nature lagoon. We are the only road people here right now at 3PM but maybe more will arrive later in the day.
There is enough room for all of us. I am hoping for amazing sunrise and sunset colors!

Report Check-In

Don't let Google Maps fool you, this isn't a neighborhood (yet). It is a beautiful, isolated pond full of birds. It is a bit run down and returning to nature but still has a smooth dirt road circling the pond where you'll park. Some far off train noise but the birds wake up in the 4 o'clock hour. They are loud. Full Verizon signal. Great for well-behaved dogs or dogs on leash.

Report Check-In

This spot is really pretty - I stayed for a while and caught a double rainbow over the mountains in the distance. But, the surrounding area felt a little sketch to me and I didn’t feel totally safe staying here alone as a solo female so I went to the TA instead.

Report Check-In

it seemed odd, boondocking so close to town, but it was great! Nice and quiet. There is a dirt road that encircles the lagoon, with a few pullouts but they looked quite sandy so we just parked on the side of the road. We had a caravan of two cargo vans, parked end to end. The road is very wide and no one else drove by all night.

Report Check-In

This area is such a gem! The dirt road around the lagoon is easy to drive and there are many spots to pull off that are level. We spent the night on the far side of the water and were treated to a beautiful sunset, beautiful sunrise, and we listened to the sounds of the cranes most of the night. There were a few other vans overnighting. We came in during a wind storm and didn’t find the blowing dust to be too bad. We will definitely stay here again!

Report Check-In

Not really great for camping. Just for overnight. To see the birds on sunset and sunrise.
Close to town, good cell service.

Report Check-In

Aweosme overnight spot. Chose to park Around the perimeter road of the lake, birds were amazing taking off at dark. trains run in the distance very great spot and quiet old fashioned town

Report Check-In

Very nice, quiet, clean. Would stay again.

Report Check-In

Great place to park. Hundreds of cranes flying over the camper. 6 other boon dockers were also there.

Report Check-In

This place is amazing! We had a nice quiet night. The Sandhill Cranes at sunset was amazing! I highly recommend this place. T-mobile 3 bars 5G

Report Check-In

Yesss follow the advice to find the dry lagoon bed. It’s amazing!

Report Check-In

Very beautiful and peaceful spot!! A few other rigs here. Some parked right on the side of the loop right along the lagoon, I found a little pullout to tuck away. So many birds. Good Verizon LTE. Gorgeous.

Report Check-In

easy access for every type of rig no amenities dry camping. I camped in the dry lake bed south of the city reclaimed wast water Lagoon. I had several cars drive in and out of the lake bed but at dark they left. two vehicles car and truck not at the same time trying to drift race around the lake bed right about dusk. Then it happened the Sandhill Cranes went crazy I was in there flight path from north of the lagoon they took off and flew south to an area probably private property the ruckus was great.
3-4 bars of Verizon. I will stay another night try to get closer to the birds they are sneaky and the ice storm is going on east of here NM and TX is where I was thinking of heading but wait a day.

Report Check-In

An awesome place to stay - but in January it's incredible with the flights of Sandhill Cranes coming in - highly recommended!

Report Check-In

Nice spot for a rainy overnight. Had the place to ourselves except for some day trippers. Unfortunately the cranes were flying overhead and very few nesting on the lake. 5 bars ATT. Some train and highway noise but not enough to disturb us.

Report Check-In

just parked along the side of a loop. a couple cars went by before I fell asleep but it was very quiet. I could hear a train wayyyyyyyyy in the distance a few times. road is dirt/sand but pretty smooth. decent Verizon signal.

Report Check-In

Such a stunning location. Great place to watch both the sunrise and sunset and see all the cranes flying. Plus look out after the moon sets and you have a great view of the stars. Road still has some wet spots from the big rain but plenty of dry parking along it. A few people camping overnight, but very quiet.

Report Check-In

I'm so glad we found this place!! While traveling through the area it was getting late and we needed somewhere to make dinner and spend the night. We took the advice of the few commenters who suggested going back behind the lagoon to the dried one and it was awesome! the Sunset and Sunrise where incredible! watching the hundreds of birds fly over head in formation at dusk was completely breathtaking!!

Unfortunately there was a lot of trash left behind by people who go out there to let off fire works and whatnot. I wish I had more time to do some clean up but had to hit the road pretty early.

We added a new location for the dry bed. Thank you SO much OP for posting this little hidden gem off of I-10!

Report Check-In

Great spot, plenty of places to park around the dry lakebed and still feel private. The cranes in the morning were spectacular.

Report Check-In

No no signs. Quiet apart from the birds and the occasional train. Had rained and there were a handful of soft spots but had pretty much dried out by morning. Not far from freeway and fairly easy to get to.

Report Check-In

The Sandhill Cranes were beautiful! Especially at sunset! I added a photo. We parked on the east side in a pullout. Totally peaceful and we were the only camper there.

Report Check-In

Great secluded spot! I took the suggestion of a previous reviewer & went to the dry lake bed. It was easy to get to in my FWD Promaster & very quiet. It was neat seeing all of the cranes flying at dawn & dusk.
Good T-Mobile service.

Report Check-In

Great free place to stay and enjoy the migrating birds.

Report Check-In

Very beautiful and peaceful place to stay. We found a great leveled pull off area on the east side of the lake.

Report Check-In

Way too many bugs. Mosquito heaven. Left, not good if you need to open doors/windows or be outside.

Report Check-In

Very smelly at this time of the year and no “waste” water left. Didn’t stay.

Report Check-In

For a more private spot, turn right into the lagoon. Follow it around. Pass the viewing station on the left, but keep going. Just past the reclaimed water sign on the left is a road. Turn right and it brings you to a dry lagoon bed, super wide open and big enough to fit big rigs. Big rigs may have issues with the rutted road going in, so walk the road first ( it's only about 1/4 mile long). Locals come here to play with their dogs and there was a car playing music on Friday night. Low cell reception.

Report Check-In

Easy access, no other rigs. Verizon 4 bars, ATT 2 bars. If it's good enough for the birds, it's good enough for me

Report Check-In

1000s of Sandhill Cranes here. Very windy day and dust blowing, but the birds are amazing. Not many people and plenty of room for any size rig.

Report Check-In

1000s of Sandhill Cranes here. Very windy and dusty but the birds are incredible. Not many people here and room for any size rig.

Report Check-In

Great spot, had the night to myself and there’s plenty of space for big rigs as well. Nice and flat.
Beautiful sunset, beautiful birds.

No other vandwellers until I was leaving I saw to bus rigs rolling in. What’s up octobus!!

Report Check-In

Here during sandhill crane migration, such a treat to hear and see them! Great boondocking. AT&T and Verizon have 4bars. 5 min from town so services are super close by. just south of this pond is a dry lake bed. great place to let the dog chase toys off leash.

Report Check-In

Almost 3000 sandhill cranes today and still there for the night

Report Check-In

This was an amazing place to camp. Birds flying above our head, cooing, amazing. We pitched a tent. Absolutely unreal.

Report Check-In

Amazing! Gorgeous views and tons of birds.

Report Check-In

Wow, just wow. The previous commenter is right! The original finder of this is a God send! I woke up this morning to a firey sunrise over the Dos Cabezas Peaks with birds calling to eachother as the sun was warming their feathers. Just as described, with a bit more birds talking at night than expected but not unwelcome!

Report Check-In

Great spot for a night or two. Lots of room for any size rig. Lots of birds. Good AT&T service. Great sunset and sunrise.
