Tried to pull in late here, was surprised with a bunch of construction and cones blocking both parking lots off. Onto the next!

Great spot! Huge lot on some water. Beautiful sunset and sunrise. Pretty quiet, trucks started rolling by the main road at 4:30 am. Happy I stayed here and so is my dog.

We love this place. This is our second time here. 2 years ago, we stayed in the first parking lot, and this time, we stayed in the second parking lot both time we got a great nights sleep with no problems. not far off the interstate, quiet and beautiful. Verizon fluctuates between 2 to 4 bars.

Report Check-In

Cool little spot. Quiet, peaceful. Would stay again.

Report Check-In

Quiet spot with light traffic. Another camper showed up but we each minded our own and it was peaceful

Report Check-In

Great quiet place. Easy to find and minutes from the freeway. Sand hill crane was 5 steps away for a morning visitor

Report Check-In

Lucky to visit this lovely spot again. I see a previous visitor marked this spot as closed, but it is still open. Glad we checked and I will make that correction. See my previous post from last month for more details. Biting flies still an issue.

Report Check-In

Good free place to stay overnight. Very quiet at night, first trucks in the morning.

Report Check-In

I wasn't able to find this place.

Report Check-In

Three gravel lots varying distance starting from directly on Shoemaker Isle Road and moving away. There is a bit of traffic noise on the road that picks up around 6:30 am. Short walking trail to the Alda Sandhill Crane Viewing Deck. Locals come here for bird watching. We said hello to the handful of day-time visitors we met and everyone was nice. Nice place to walk your dog but we did find four ticks on ours the first hour here. Also a lot of flies. We left our doors and windows open and our RV ceiling was covered in flies within a few hours. Three bars Verizon! Small amount of litter we picked up when we arrived.

Report Check-In

very quiet. Lot of birds in the morning. Great spot!

Report Check-In

Agree with previous comments. Quiet place to camp. Just be on the lookout for ticks if you walk in the grass. Also, mosquitoes are starting to hatch. 2 bars LTE with T-Mobile

Report Check-In

Very quiet spot off i80. Stayed for one night. Puppy picked up a tic immediately so check for that.

Report Check-In

beautiful spot with easy access and tons of birding potential! great little walking trail right off the parking lot with tons of wildlife and quick access to i-80. no interstate noise but there is a small amount of noisy morning traffic on the nearby road.

Report Check-In

Had a quiet night here which was really needed. We came in after dark and went past the first pullout and camped in the second. Luckily, we were here at the same time as the Sandhill cranes. A nice stop over on our trip to the Midwest.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for 2 nights in our purple 5-window skoolie and were unbothered! Nice and quiet place to hang out for a while! Search for Shoemaker Island on Google maps, the coordinates are a little off on iOverlander

Report Check-In

Dark, quiet, free. Finally a night's sleep without the noise of trucks and interstate noise!

Report Check-In

VERY windy when we stopped. it kept us up most of the night honestly but at least the sky was very clear and we got a great view of the stars. the road to the spot seems very private driveway-ish but it’s really obvious when you get to the spot (signage). i can imagine it gets pretty buggy when it’s warm as there looked to be a lot of standing water

Report Check-In

The dirt lot treated us well. I couldn’t hear I-80 and had the lot to ourselves. Not at all sketchy.

Report Check-In

Really nice secluded location next to the highway. Not sure on speeds but Google Fi has LTE here.

Report Check-In

Great site. Very quiet, with the exception of bullfrogs, and the occasional car. Best to enter from Alda Rd. Coming from the other direction (west) is much longer.

Report Check-In

Incredibly peaceful. Very cool in the morning for a day topping at 94°F.

A nice path to walk on if we had more time. We'll come back.

Report Check-In

Pulled in to the gravel lot just down the road from the Sandhill Crane viewing parking lot. Super quiet all night. One other camper shared the lot with us - a local family from the town nearby. Mosquitoes were few and the birds were many.

Report Check-In

Lovely spot at a sand hill crane viewing area. We tried the Bassway strip spot first about 30 miles west. But it is between the sandpit and route 80. It looks like he used to be able to drive down a road that is now a hiking trail. But this place is much nicer and really quiet

Report Check-In

Fireflies, bullfrogs, numerous birds. Beautiful campsite. Stayed overnight and it was quiet and peaceful. We pulled into second entrance on left side of road.

Report Check-In

Stayed at the gravel lot just 100 yards down from the first turn off. Gorgeous view of the water and few mosquitoes despite there being higher humidity and just LOADS of fireflies. For being so close to the highway, you barely see or hear any cars. A few folks walking around the water’s path but otherwise we were the only ones here. Beautiful spot, highly recommend to post up for the day or spend the night. OK Verizon service and great AT&T service.

Report Check-In

Ended up spending the night here, and it worked out great. Nice and quiet with lots of fireflies for neighbors.

Report Check-In

Beautiful quiet place to dry camp. Lots of bird activity, swallows, ducks, geese, & turkeys. Still free. We have the small dirt parking area next to the Platt River at the base of the walkway the viewing stand to ourselves.

Report Check-In

Beautiful quiet spot away from highway noise with a lovely sunrise.

Report Check-In

Addendum, just spoke to a local the Sandhill Cranes are seasonal, said normally in March.

Report Check-In

Not at the coordinates, a hundred yards or so further along the road. No signs saying No Camping/Overnight Parking so maybe we will be OK for the night. There is a observation deck over the Platte River, and I believe you can see Sandhill Cranes there. Don’t know if it is seasonal or daily so will go down there in the evening to see.

Report Check-In
