Moodys Landing Recreation Area
in De Soto NF has 4 free numbered campsites with pads, picnic tables, fire pit w/grill, and a community spigot. On a National Scenic Creek. 1st come, 1st served basis. 14 day stay limit. Boat launch on site. Shady, quiet area, however not very far from road. Big enough to fit my 31' plus my car.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Nothing stating that the area is closed but the pit toilets are locked and the place is certainly not being maintained. Stayed here 2 nights without issue. Kind of close to the road and there’s a kennel up the road so some noise from the dogs barking in the evening but they settled down shortly after dark.
Report Check-Injust as described. nice free place for the night with 4 designated spots. no one else here on a Sunday in February and not the best cell service
Report Check-InBasic NF campground. Light road noise overnight and morning, dogs barking in the distance. . Restrooms still closed since 3/2020. I feel the campground hasn’t been maintained in some time. Strict alcohol restrictions posted due to dry county. Short walk to white sandy landing. No trash, no water, 1-2 bars of Verizon.
Report Check-InStoped by to stay the night- bathrooms closed. No overnight stays. Still closed because of COVID- permitted for day use only. Does not look like it’s well maintained at all.
Report Check-InClosed for COVID :( Looks like it would be a nice stay. A short walk down a steep slope behind site 1 takes you to a river bend. Sites are rather close to one another so I’d probably only plan on coming during the week and only for a night or two. No service from T-Mobile for miles. I was there long enough to set up my shower tent and bathe. Maybe 5 cars passed and a school bus used the loop as a turn around point. The town nearby has that real authentic backwoods vibe: No food, no grocery, and no gas. A town so small the speed limit is set to 20 mph so you don’t miss anything. Mind yourself on the road. Local PD eyeballed me hard and followed for about 5 miles out of town. I reckon it was the out of state tags because my van is no speed demon.
