Quiet night. I parked in the upper section a little further from the road. Porta Potty at the trail head. No one else here last night, but hikers started showing up at six am. Unfortunately no view this time as I was socked in with clouds, which is not uncommon for this area. Otherwise a great spot. Some signal with Verizon.

Report Check-In

stayed overnight and it was fine. lots of people coming and going for sunrise, sunset, and star gazing. that being said overnight stealth camping is illegal on the BRP. there were two park rangers at the overlook during sunset. parking here should be fine but don't be surprised if you get ticketed or asked to move.

Report Check-In

pretty much people out here waiting for sunset and doesn't leave until past ten. photographers showed up catching sunrise at around 5~6am so don't really get very long time to oneself. there are portable outhouses on-site. no water. great place to count stars at night

Lots of hikers at 4pm on sat, but by dark it was just us and another van. 7am sunrise was beautiful. Quiet all night long. I’d recommend this spot for any vehicle that can fit in a normal parking space. Felt safe

Parking lot at the overlook, quiet and level. Three other RVs here, nice place to watch the sun rise.

Got there right as the sun was setting and it was a beautiful view! Stayed the night and had no problems, was very quiet with few cars coming and going. In the morning I did the small hike to the overlook which was great too!

Such an awesome spot! We stayed for 1 night in our 20’ camper. We were the only ones left in the parking lot after the sunset. The wind was ripping and it was pretty chilly, but incredible views!!!

Stayed here last night. Sweet little hike to the top with 360 views!
Very peaceful and quiet. Another van stayed as well. Rained all night, but I guess that’s why we are car camping.
I would recommend this spot. About 30min to Mount Mitchell State Park.

beautiful, quiet spot to stay. only three other cars parked overnight but on Saturday morning it got busy. the hike up to the overlook is well worth it!

Report Check-In

FYI * NOT SAFE * Pulled in with my Promaster Conversion to get a few hours sleep! While resting someone tried to forcibly enter via the vent on top of the van! Immediately called 911 for help but it would take 20 mins for deputies to arrive

Report Check-In

Beautiful quiet place... slept with open back door over night with millions dollar view.

Report Check-In

Road closed right before this spot. Don't know if it's due to covid 19 or roadworks.

Gorgeous view. Arrived just after sunset, stayed the night with no issues. Very quiet and dark. We were the only vehicle that stayed overnight but there were hikers visiting up until 1130pm and starting at 645am.

Report Check-In

Beautiful big parking lot surrounded by mountains. A few people were here stargazing when we arrived around 11 but left soon after and the night was silent. Much cooler than the valley which was a welcome relief. Beautiful sunrise in the morning.

Report Check-In

Craggy dome overlook parking lot. Great spot with great views (when not socked in the clouds). Much cooler than the lower elevations - at 5640’. Very quiet. We were the only vehicle in the lot from about 9pm until 730am when a few hikers began showing up. No signs indicating no overnight parking.
