Panoramic view of mountains and the valley below, atop a grassy knoll 50 yards off hwy 70 but shielded from the road by an aspen grove.Complete with fire pit. More options along this forest service road. 4 miles east of Battle Pass between the pass and natl forest campground. Saved $10 and the view' s worth millions. Verizon 3G a little sparse

Second night here. Had a chance to explore by hiking down the dirt road to the river. From the turn off there three great flat areas easily accessible by 9 foot campervan. Beyond the third flat area there are leaning Aspens that may block high vehicles. Recommend you hike down the road before attempting driving down because it would be very hard place to back out.
About 0.2 mile from the flat are there is very beautiful meadow with stream running which is reachable with low profile vehicles.
the previous comment describes the campsite correctly. Adding a picture. No verizon service.
Report Check-InTwo more bigger, flatter, grassier, and more secluded spots are just down the same forest road about 30 seconds but you'll pass a few narrowing trees so going these 30 seconds further isn't recommended for big rigs. We're 9 ft tall and 7 ft wide and just made it. The first further knoll overlooks the second one but only at the very edge, so we didn't notice it until later. Perfectly quiet, and agree with the wonderful view. It can get windy. Our 21' 2wd Sprinter made it no problem. 2wd, regular clearance friendly, but it is a dirt road with a steep section, so perhaps caution if muddy.
