Description

There are actually three different places to camp here, each with a fire circle and river views plus access. There are nice places to set up ground tents too. The entry is tricky and some sights requires 4WD. Our 6.2m long x 2.6m high van made it through but it was tight. Trees provide nice shade and privacy from the road. The river is an unbelievably-stunning blue color. One of our best bush camps ever. Free. This is the best you'll find between PB and Parque Patagonia.

Beautiful place!! Right next to the river, within the trees to protect you from wind. We went all the way down with our 4WD, to the spot that is on the small beach with fire pit. High enough to open rooftop tent.
It is not easily accessible with 2WD. While we were here, a family struggled to get their 2WD back to the road.

GORGEOUS wild camp spot. Got here late after a long day of cycling from PTranquilo and there was only one other cyclist camping here. Lots of flat spots for tents and direct river access for a rinse/water refill. Good wind protection and sound of river is sooo nice at night. Some spots are a bit more visible from road but still tucked away from dust and road noise. Best wild camp spot on CA so far. PLEASE LEAVE NO TRACE. Keep this spot clean and accessible for others.

Excelente lugar, un lujo estar al lado de los rápidos del Baker, protegido del viento y del sol, limpio y tranquilo, el único ruido es el del río

Report Check-In

amplio lugar para acampar a la orilla del río hay buen espacio para carpas y camper .

Camp sauvage au bord du rio Backer. Baignade dans la rivière

stayed here one night. beautiful and quiet except for the sound of the river. almost no trash. there are several spots along the river but if you want to drive down you'll need 4*4. no problem for tents if it's dry. the track through the trees will be to narrow for most big rigs.some internet with Entel. there are a lot of fire pits and we used one in the afternoon until some guy came saying he was from the fire brigade and said making a fire here is apparently illegal. I am a bit sceptical about this but we were almost done so we told him we would put out the fire in a couple of minutes and he left. so a great place to camp but maybe not if you were planning on a huge fire.

Report Check-In

Might need 4x4 to get down to the spot. A few places to put tents, roof tents and vans. Great rain and wind protection. Not as many bugs as the other comments say. Maybe there are more in later summer or if there’s trash around.

Report Check-In

Lugar tranquilo para acampar, em perfeito estado de conservação, recomendo.

Report Check-In

Just passed by and stop to enjoy the river. good description. 4x4 recommended. wet terrain, can expect flies

Report Check-In

nice place, strong current in the very very blue river. a lot of toilet paper, mosquitoes and horse flies too!

Report Check-In

Very nice place, we went there by good weather with our Mitsubishi l300 and it went ok. There where a lot of bugs

Report Check-In

This is such a great place! The Rio Baker is so impressive, strong rapids and what a color! There are several spots all with a fire ring and access to the water, more or less leveled. Possible for tent too. If you don't have a 4WD, going down there (and up the next morning!) is a bit scary! It's steep with lots of roots and pretty narrow for big rigs. But we did it with our Mitsubishi L300 2WD, so it depends how you feel it! With the sound of the river you don't here the traffic (none at night here) but get a bit of dust. The place was surprisingly clean, no garbage. It's a very peaceful spot to spend the night or hang out a few days.

Can’t camp here with out van because the place was full of flies, shit and trash. If people can’t dig and shit more than 2 meters from where they camp, these spots will no longer be camp site but garbage. It was a very nice spot next to the river by the way. Had to camp on the parking spot in the town.

Report Check-In

Very nice place surrounded by trees, by the river. Well protected from wind. Many fire pits and people in tents. The access is a bit difficult because there are many roots and holes but we did it with a basic 2WD van Chevrolet N300.

Report Check-In

These are very good places BUT PLEASE PEOPLE please stop leaving toilet paper all over the place. Digging a hole and "leaving no trace" is not hard!

Report Check-In

Great location to stop. Very clean campsite with several different places to pitch a tent. Only downside is that the road is pretty close depending on where you set up, so you can hear traffic. Highly recommended though.

Really beautiful spot. Was okay to reach with our 2WD Toyotta4runner. However, we did not stay because of the annoying mosquitos. Got bitten twice in the 10 minutes we were there.

Report Check-In

Very nice spot, you have 3 spots spread on 200m, with different access, sun and place. The river is enormous, huge waves and huge rainbow, brown truts .

Report Check-In

Like everyone has said, this place is so dope. The river is unbelievably beautiful and the wooded areas are nice and provide a little privacy and some places to explore.

Report Check-In

Awesome location right next to the river. Quiet and well protected. Nice wild camping spot!

Report Check-In

Really awesome free camping. Two of the spots would work great for mid sized rigs - bring firewood cause there are nice firepits but we couldn't find wood nearby.

Report Check-In

Incredible experience to camp so near at Rio Baker. There are several spots and all well protected from the road and wind. We met some other travellers here and had a nice stay!

Report Check-In

Great place for a night. There are several pullouts for big rigs. Easy access to the river and quiet at night. Beautiful bush camp! The river is incredibly blue. o

Report Check-In

Really nice campsite — lots of spots for cyclists and tents, a few spots down by the river for smaller cars with 4WD — we didnt feel like squeezing in between the trees (width of your rig is more important than the height there), so we went down the road another 60 meters and there’s a nice pullout for 2 or so rigs that still had river access.

Stunning, Awesomeballs and 'yes baby beautyful'

Report Check-In

Beautiful place with noisy river. After rain it wasn't easy to drive out with normal car.

Report Check-In

Car is not a problem. We have landcruiser 5.2long. Its good for one night. But no big rigs when we were.

Report Check-In

Indeed awesome spot! No mosquitos when we were here, no wind either:)

Report Check-In

Great location for cyclists ! The last camping spot is close to the rapid waters of Baker and a smaller stream. Cars cant access this area. Noisy from the river beautiful !

Report Check-In

Great wildcamp spot with amazing views and right next to the Rio Baker. We stopped here having cycled up from Cochrane and we loved the location. So far this is our best wild camping spot since leaving Ushuaia. Guess it could get busy in high season but quite a few good places to camp. You'll need some mosquito repellent though!

Report Check-In

Nice, shadowy, free. Stunning blue river. Close to road with some dust depending on wind dir. A few meters more there' s another pull out, big rig friendly.

Report Check-In

very nice spot!
we took the one between the trees because it was really raining hard. we used the trees for our tarp :-)
good decision to, the other spot close to the river was very muddy next morning,we would have a hard time pulling out....
stayed for two nights and no-one else came.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot, as described. When we arrived in the evening, several other campers had already set up so we camped in one of the other pull-outs slightly south.

Report Check-In

Lovely spot but tricky to access with larger trucks, but we squeezed in with our Iveco Daily 4x4 (2.2W x 6.5L x 3.3H metres). Think twice about coming here if you don't have mossie nets - midges were pretty bad. Just slightly visible through trees from road but the river noise covers up any noise that you might otherwise get from the road. No facilities. Free.

Report Check-In

Amazing spot!! Bright blue rio baker rushing right next to camp, plenty of firewood, well hidden off the road. Thanks to the annoying swarming gnats, otherwise i would have never left this perfect wild camp. THIS is what the Carretera Austral is about right here! :)

Report Check-In

I lost one rear marker light getting out between the trees. Tight fit with the ambulance. Great place to camp for a day or more.

Report Check-In

Beautiful wild camp, tight fit but well worth the effort to get down to the river. The blue water is one out of a dream, although it is not far off the road there is not much traffic and is peaceful at night. loved it!
