This location is however within a designated restricted area where overnight stay and pets are prohibited
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
I haven't stayed here, (I was planning to) but according to the map at https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fsbdev3_004860.pdf this spot is in Restricted area #3 and is day use only.
Not saying you can't get away with it, but I wouldn't want to drive that narrow little road in the dark after being asked to leave either.
Hidden from the road, old gravel pull off, no “no” signs, right next to the road but definitely a little more hidden due to the pull off, 5 mins (if that) from the observatory
