South Africa
Great place to stay in Jo'burg. Not only as a hostal but also for camping! We stayed here with our truck in a large grassy area.
The price was ZAR 150 in total (a breakfast is included).
Staff very friendly. They have a pool, kitchen, saloon and free fast WiFi. Watertap is on the ground but no electricity plots (but we could connect with our long cable drum with the house).
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Nice grassy campsite. We had pre - booked given comments on being busy. We were only ones camping and I think there was only 1 other guest. Met Michael
Owner who confirmed they are reopen for business. He said it can be busy one night then not for a while…..
Showers good. Small kitchen available for use. Pool. Friendly staff and the 3 dogs were friendly too.
Some minor road noise but this stopped around 6pm.
We paid 300R for the 2 of us camping for the night.
Report Check-InMake contact before going to make sure there is space and someone can open the gate.
Bathrooms very clean.
Power possible with a long extension cord.
Camping 200 pppn.
Report Check-InIdeal place for campers, caravaners and overlanders when in Johannesburg
Report Check-InApart of the Backpackers / Hostel also the camping / overlander part is now open again.
Report Check-InGreeting to all, I am Michael the owner of this site. It is unfortunate but due to a huge lack of support since the COVID pandemic we are now permanently closed as of the 1st of April 2023. We would like to thank all of you for your support over the years and wish you all well on your travels throughout Africa.
Report Check-InWe spend 1 night, it's a nice place with kitchen, shower (not hot 🤷), toilet, swimming pool, bar with a pool table, electricity and wifi. Everything is clean. And the owner is nice.
The price is now 150R per person
Backpacker Connection is a bright spot for longtime overlanders. We stood in the grassy parking lot for about a week to do work on the vehicle. ZAR 120 pppn. We were immediately supplied with electricity, which worked continuously. The toilets are clean and tidy, the showers hot, the staff friendly. Backpackers Connection also has a large workshop that can be used by appointment.
Report Check-InAfter a forced very long absense because of covid we are back to RSA. It seems that many guesshouses, etc has unfortunately not survived economically the virus.
Mike and his "Backpackers" are still here! Even he could make a roof to the place in front of the pool. This is now a very nice place with billard, etc where people meet for a drink, etc. in the evening.
The price is still the same and very good value.
We spent some weeks at Backpackers Connection with our truck beside a shady tree. It is a very welcoming place with great relaxed atmosphere. We dud lots of maintenance at our truck which is very easy to do here. You get help with any information you need. Michael has a workshop for its own cars, which is well equipped. He helped us with some welding. I the area is lots of spare shops etc.
You can use all facilities as described below. And you can be for your own at the tree when you want it.
The price for long term travellers with European number plate is 150 rand (2 people) and well worth it.
We will come back for sure, when we are near Joburg again.!!!
