Something not right?

Description

Bridge at end of road 123 is destroyed and basically impassable.

It looks like numerous overweight vehicles and lack of maintenance has destroyed it. See photos. You might make it across by rebuilding part of it, but it wasn't worth the risk of getting stuck / dying for us, so we back tracked the 45km to the 1n and went around.

Definetely an interesting way to die. Please don't try to cross it if you see it has not been repaired.

Report Check-In

Adding photos. Notice the damaged and missing metal structure the wood normally sits on. We weren't sure if more of that was missing.

Report Check-In

Bridge fully repaired. We crossed it with 4t no problem.
New sign says max 25t. Paved road very good condition.

Report Check-In

I'd like to comment that the crossing is OPEN again with fresh wooden planks. there was even a huge 10 ton+ construction vehicle that crossed it to enter the building by the bridge, I think they are working around there and they fixed it. HOWEVER, the security guard told me it was 10 soles to cross, I just ignored and crossed. Other vehicles drove by without paying, I am not the one being the idiot around today.

Report Check-In

It's not closed. Bridge still not repaired.

Report Check-In

This bridge still exists. 10 soles are charged per crossing. The crossing with a van size is feasible but not without danger. We took Route 12 directly and would take the detour again at any time

Report Check-In

Still not fixed. Some nice people helped us with wooden planks to cross.. we gave them a small tip. One of the boards broke under our 3.5 to Sprinter van, but I drove over fast and got to the other side safely.

Report Check-In

Bridge is still out. There are a pile of planks that some use to cross (with very small bike), but we couldn’t with ours as they are too large and it was not worth the risk.

Report Check-In

DO NOT come this way! Go through Route 12 instead. The bridge has wooden planks as cover and we saw another overlander's van got stuck on the bridge (thankfully everyone is ok). We went around and added 2 hours to the drive.

Surtout ne suivez pas la LI-123. Même si cette route est très agréable et vous promet de belles vues, je ne vous conseille pas d’essayer de passer sur ce pont.

Report Check-In

The road is really good, most of it recently paved... But the bridge it's still broken and this won't change... thou... YOU CAN TIP THE GUYS OVER THERE AND THEY WILL LEND YOU SOME WOODEN PLANKS TO PUT ON THE BRIDGE AND PASS OVER. It is still scary to pass, but it is ok... we weight almost 3tn... Big rigs abstain to cross...
Have fun!

also read about the condition on this road on the other red symbol on the west side!

Report Check-In

The road is know in a good shape, mostly good gravel, partly asphalted, BUT the bridge on this side has a 5m long hole in the middle which is only covered by a few wood planks and really scary to pass (see photo) . also only doable for light vehicles.

Report Check-In

The bridge is not passable. There is a large section without decking. See photos. We had to drive back to try he coast and up th other side of the river. 3 hour back tack.

Report Check-In

Take the Pe 12 it's better than the 123 and you can also find spot along the road to sleep. The road is better, it's got Holes and topes but its better than the other one.

Report Check-In

the gate is open even if we was on Sunday
we ask the guard and he said there is no problem to take this road.
we made 1h20 to do this road with a 2wd 4runner. the road is very beautiful
it's better to have a high clearance, I think is doable with low clearance but clearly less easy

Report Check-In

FYI took us 1hr 40mins to go the long way, instead of this "short" cut. (From this point to where the short and long cut meet, North of Chimbote)

Report Check-In

If you are going to Trujillo or to Caraz take paved detour (+40km) to Chimbote as the other road is not in a good condition. You will need 3h for 32km.
