Easy to go with your ouwn vehicle even 2WD. No bad ripio. 500 ARS pp. free under 8 years. Little walk 30 min. Very nice view

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

After reading all the comments we were a bit hesitant of driving here (we have a 2WD van that doesn't always agree with where we want to go). We decided to give it a go anyway and it was surprisingly easy to go up. Just take it easy and put it in low gear and you shouldn't have too hard of a time! Really worth it as well :)

Report Check-In

We went up by car today, the road is indeed mostly washboard, but if you take it slow it is super doable. It took us around 1 hr 15 minutes to go up and the same going back. We saw vans, buses and simple 2 wheel drive cars going up as well. The views are great!

Report Check-In

After reading the comments, we decided to not take our 2WD but go on a tour. It was 7000 pp (Blue rate now is around 900). Very happy with our decision! Washboard almost all the way. Even the 4x4 pick up took 45 minutes both ways, probably 2 hours each way with our van. Very nice view point, worth a visit!

Report Check-In

Winter break meant loads of traffic and a permanent dust cloud over RP73. I abandoned the idea of travelling on my Moto and glad I took the camioneta. The corrugated ripio was horrendous and the road needs planing badly. It took 50 minutes to get there from Humahuaca and 40 minutes to get back. I'd guess the driver didn't own the vehicle the way it was shaking with the speed over the wasboarding. Price for the excursion was $3500 (about $7 blue rate) and well worth avoiding abusing your own vehicle and a lung-full of dust.
If you're interested in the trip, all you have to do is walk towards the bus terminal and someone with a clipboard will approach you to book a time.

Report Check-In

Super beautiful. You really feel the altitude so be aware. Take it easy. You can buy drinks and a bread and use the toilets. Nice view point and 2 ways to walk or downwards then you see blue colors in the valley or the thin right path. Have fun. Very cold. Stay untill the sun is behind the mauntain. The colora will change from purple to red to gold on the top. Wauw

Report Check-In

50ars vehicle entry. Road is ripio but is okay from the town. They had a shop after the barrier, they're selling cols drinks and warm food (empanadas, tortillas).

Report Check-In

The road was fine. Just watch out for the rushers. Entry costs $200 Argentine pesos each and it is open from 8am to 6pm. We went in the morning and there were few people. Around noon, it was impossible to go there. As much as the afternoon is said to be the best time, the morning is much quieter

A estrada estava boa.

Report Check-In

We didn't find the way bad, and we saw tractors taking care of the road. The Mirador is still 100 pesos per person, and is only open from 10-18h.
_____

Não achamos o caminho ruim e vimos tratores cuidando da estrada. O mirador ainda custa 100 pesos por pessoa e está aberto apenas das 10 às 18h.

Report Check-In

Its 24 km from town to here. After maybe 2 or 3 km the washboards start. We turned around after 7 km because we had the feeling this would continue for the other 17 km. The road can be done by any car but be prepared to be shaked around.

Report Check-In

Wonderful viewpoint to the coloured mountains! Definitely worth the drive up. It's an easy gravel road, accessible for 2WD as well. We paid 100 pesos pp at the entrance (no additional fee for our motorhome)

Report Check-In

if you want to avoid the hassle of driving up and down, you can opt out for a minibus from the town that takes you there.
departures were 12:30 and 15:30 (morning makes less sense as you look in the sun), altogether it takes about 3h and 500ps per head

Report Check-In

Absolutely stunning view of the 14 colores and worth the drive. Road condition still very good. We arrve at 11:30, no one was at the gate, so we entered. When we got back 20min. later a lady (not recognisable as an official) first asked for 200p, when we explained that we are not a „transito“, she said 80p was ok. When I gave her 100p she said she had no change. I took the money back and left. It‘s not about the 80p, but when we arrive that late and lots of cars are already up there and she claims not to have change... very unprofessional.

Report Check-In

A must see if traveling in this part of Argentina. The road was unpaved and still in great condition. It was also steep and a lot of elevation is gained here. We have a 2WD and had to take two breaks due to our weak engine at higher altitude refusing to go to second gear in some parts. Still, we made it all the way and the drive was gorgeous. We paid 80 pesos for our van but the guy was trying to put us in the "bus size" category so we'd pay more. After a minute or so, he just agreed. If you have a bigger vehicle, it will be more expensive. They have a poster with prices listed. Like others said already, cooler temperatures at the top.

Report Check-In

The road to go there is very good. It's unpaved but in very good condition and easy with any kind of caf or motorhome. The price is 80 per car (a bit more expensive for bus I think so maybe for big motorhome too). You drove to 4300mts. It's way more cooler there so take q jackets. The view is very beautiful and there is tiny walk to do.

Report Check-In

Worth the drive up here. Very stunning. Cameras may not do it justice.

People at gate said we’d pay when we left and said it would be 80pesos. On leaving, different people asked for 200pesos for the size of vehicle (Transit, like Sprinter). We tried to argue but they were not going to let us out without paying. There is a sign with the prices that wasn’t there when we arrived.

Still worth it.

Report Check-In

We thought it well worth the drive. Road perfectly OK with 2wd. 80 entry and great views. Big open junction just below entry gate where you could probably park a truck.

Report Check-In

Nice viepoint, road there is unpaved, but in a very good condition.

Don't go too early in the morning, there's still a lot of shadow on the mountain. Around 10:30-12:30 the colours were pretty nice! We paid 80 pesos entrance fee.

Report Check-In

Much more impressive than Rainbow mountain in Peru!

Report Check-In

Crazy colored hills. The road is not that bad but the climb uphill om ripio is...Price is 80p a caf, 200 a traffic (van), we managed to pay 100 for our Furgon telling the señora at the entrance we drive a camiñoneta not a traffic. Good vibes!

Report Check-In

Now it’s 80 pesos per car. Beautiful views but too touristy. Many vans, buses and cars from agencies. Super crowded.

Report Check-In

Entrance fee is now Arg$ 80.
We were there at 2:30 pm the view was beautiful. Later it got cloudy and it seemed that dust makes the view turbid. At 5:30 pm, as the sun was behind a hill, we left.
The gravel road is in good condition, but you have to drive from 2940 m up to 4340 m.

Report Check-In

Fantastic spot, inexpensive, the road is good gravel for any sort of vechicles. Maybe during rainy season will be a different story

Report Check-In

let me say some sentences to the Fraktion easy 2WD:
I made it one day ago with my Brasilian fuel injection Kombi ano 2001. Yes there are no big stones, no the road isn't nice. it's full of this small "sandbanks" which row up after each other. most of time I was driving less than 20 and felt like a milk shake.
also, sometimes it goes really upwards and in curves you have big potholes which makes me after every serpentine playing very sentimental with my embraque. couple of times I was driving first gear and couldn't get up to the second. Once I even struggled with the first after I had to completely stop in an serpentine to check how iget through the pothole.
my advise: you can't camp up there anyway, safe the money for the suspensions and take a collectivo. yes it's expensiv but the better opinion.
From the bridge time up: 2:15 h
down:1:30h
I was completely exhausted after I arrived down again.

Report Check-In

We did not make it up with our Hyundai H1 campervan. Road is good gravel, but or engine didn't manage the incline.

Report Check-In

Road conditions: 22km of good ripio with some smaller rocks, but very much doable with 2WD. Only keep in mind the altitude delta of ~1,000m so your car will be less powerful plus might overheat, so take it easy.

Mirador Serranía de Hornocal: very impressive view, definitely recommendable

Report Check-In

22 km in off-road.
Road accessible with 2wd.
Just go slowly. No problem.
Visit only afternoon and before sun set.
Very nice colours.
One small path goes down to scenic view.
One ambulance in case.
Place is high 4350 m.

Report Check-In

Don’t miss this place. Wonderfull. No problem with 2WD. Be sure to take the bridge in town. Maps.me want a rivercrossing :-)

Report Check-In

GO HERE! Very impressive. It’s like Rainbow Mountain x 100.

Report Check-In

extremely wonderfull colors, but as well extreme washboard road.
worth it

Report Check-In

A wonderful view. Great colors. Do not miss this place. The road is washboard but worth the drive. Late afternoon it has fantastic colors. You can walk down to a further viewpoint.

Report Check-In

we asked to spend the night, the gard was mostly worried about the cold temperature... we stayed it was great very different at various time of the day!

Report Check-In

Entrance fee 50 ARS per car. Best time to visit is in the late afternoon till early evening, when the sun illuminates the mountains in a rather flat angle. The exact time depends on the date of the visit.

We left around 19:30 and nobody was at the gate anymore.

Report Check-In

Now it's 50 pesos.
I went there at 11 am and there was no one at the check point. When i came back, the ranger was here and asked me to pay and fill a form.

Interesting fact, few people are running tours to there. When i was there, there were already few people and they left before me. When i payed, my name was the first one of the sheet. Smart locals come at 9:30-10:00 and leave before 11:30, so they don't pay.

Report Check-In

Still 40 pesos per vehicle (even with a big rig). Be aware that is a bad ripio from Humahuaca till here but worth it !

Report Check-In

The entry gate was open today, no entrance fee to pay. We left the place at 19:00 without anybody showing up telling to leave the area.
There is s nice track going 500m downhill. From there the view is even better as from the parking area as you have a view from the valley at about 3.300m up to the mountain ride of about 4.700m. And yes, it is best in the afternoon until sunset.

Report Check-In

april, 8 o'clock in the morning it was for free! nobody was at the entrance. the view of the 14 colored mountains is not that good early in the morning, because of the shadow. around 10 a.m. the sun turns the mountains in sunnyside :-)

Report Check-In

Prohibido acampar sign at the mirador! Foto light ist better after midday until Sunrise!

Report Check-In

We've not been alowed to stay overnight here! They come up, collect trash and close at 6.00 pm.

Report Check-In

New price: 40 peso/car, 20 peso/motorbike.

Report Check-In

This is the place with the incredible view of the 14 colors cliff. It is at 14,200 ft ASL.

Report Check-In

We did not camp here but came up early in the morning for sunrise. The ground is very uneven but apart from that the views are quite spectacular. Be prepared for a cold night, there was frost on the ground when we arrived at just after 7am. The drive in also provides amazing views along the valley and back towards Humahuaca....it was snowing on the mountains to the north and west as we drove back down.
