We arrived late so we didn’t quite make it up to the canyon. There was a flat area to park right before it that we stopped at. Drove up to the canyon the next morning and it was beautiful. We definitely recommend this place! The stars at night were remarkable.

Parking on Lopez Street, above San Marcos Park. In the park there are public toilets and non-drinking water. Excellent view and friendly neighbours

Very nice campsite with super friendly staff! I spent my birthday here and they really made me feel special. We camped with my boyfriend but since it was going to rain they let us put our tent in an empty house that was finished (but not furnished) by the lake. They brought us wood to make a fire at night, they let us put some wine and cheese in the kitchen's fridge and in the morning they brought us a cake! :)
Really recommend this place!

huge area, we had two vehicles and 3 tents and still had plenty of room, there's also space off to the left if you follow the tire tracks

Camping at the waterpark parking lot. They close at 4 p.m., so you are completely alone on the property. There is a friendly security guard present 24 hours a day. You can swim again at 8 p.m., but there is no lighting (too expensive). Toilets were not clean, after asking they hung a light in the shower. No wifi. We were there with our campervan for 1 night, two adults, two children and paid 21$. If you want to stay 24h it’s 32$. We had to leave at 11am. Not far from Joya de Ceren. Good for 1 night.

atm at santa cruz bank 2 blocks away is an absolute rip-off 5599$.

they change usd and euros 1/1000 b also Chilean pesos 1/1.

the surroundings of the city are marvellous but this city is a horrible tourists trap. be advised CHANGE B4 GETTING HERE.

also prepare your treks before coming because the internet (mobile and wifi is a total mess)

Great little picnic area for an overnight stay. No privacy, although a few spots are a little more tucked away. Picnic benches, right off highway, lots of room for vehicles, has trash cans. No water or bathrooms but can sleep here comfortably for 24 hrs. Would stay again.

Great to explore the city! Calm, really fast wifi even in the car & everyone very friendly!
On the downside: quite a few people lingering around and you feel a little watched if you can’t stay inside your vehicle, the toilets are really not nice and the whole place very dusty & dirty + the pooping birds of prey…

From here you can walk 1 kilometres to the nearby trainstation and buy a ticket for 0,80€ pp to easily get into the city centre. The trainline only opened up in 2023 and is really well organised. We can absolutely recommend taking this option!

Before leaving the sailing club one guardian demanded really impolitely for us to pay for his cigarettes. We didn’t pay anything except the official fee for the parking.

Really beautiful & calm beach section!
If you come from the main street and don’t drive along the beach to get here, it’s a little tricky to find a way from the village through the trees to the beach. But there definitely are many options, if you don’t have a too big rig! Sand is quite soft! We had to reduce our tire pressure….

This place is private. There is a gate to see the monastery but you cant go with the car to the place of the beautiful picture anymore.
Big sign of no camping and caravans in the parking.
Plenty of beautiful spots if you keep going up a couple of meter in the main road.
Enjoy

Got here after dark, but used Gaia maps for the last bit of gravel roads. I wasn't sure there would be anything here, but you can trust the coordinates. It was a windy and rocky spot, but flat enough for my tent and a fine place to spend the night. Good star gazing.

Lots of opportunities in the forest here, sign says 14 days max. Pretty accurate descriptions for this spot, Google tried to take me to the road below the spot, but you have to go further up the hill into the forest to find the left/right fork. Left spot as described and pictured is better- more privacy (can still see a bit of road through the trees), better view. Road was fine in a RAV4. Many gunshots on the weekend, not too close though. Verizon signal usable, ATT barely with booster, no TMobile.

Basically no trash at the moment, but there was like 5 poor excuses for fire pits all over, so I grabbed some extra rocks and made a much better one off in the corner.

I paid $5 for camping at the edge of the crater. I thought I also had to pay the $2 for park entry / sightseeing but they never charged. I had to ask for the ticket / receipt multiple times though, otherwise it seemed like they would not have given me. I was able to push my bicycle up the trail all the way to the mirador and the camping spot. Gorgeous views and was very quiet on a Friday night. Not too windy when I was there. The next day, I was able to leave my bicycle at Shalala and hike around the crater, which took about 5 hours and was kind of sketchy but was amazing. Keep in mind that the $2 fee for Shalala and the $2 fee for entering the town of Quilotoa is different, if you want to enter the town from the main entrance, you will have to pay an additional $2.

⚠️ DON'T GO ⚠️
Please read story of our friend Jorge here below. I was waiting for him to make a comment on iO before commenting myself.
My gf and I are the two other cyclists he's talking about in his comment. Joel is a sexual aggressor and planned the whole thing since the morning, since he had received a pic of Jorge and his french cycling-mate. He made us sleep in another place and told us: "See you tomorrow, I'll take care of other cyclists coming a bit later." I proposed him they could sleep with us but he said no, that he had other plans for them... and that happened... ! In the morning, Jorge was VERY traumatized... What could Joel do with other cycling boys ? And maybe girls, who know ? The place is VERY remote, so you could shout with all your force, NOBODY will hear you.

Enough room for 5 or 6 tractor trailers or RV's next to McDonald's parking lot.

Agreed. Absolutely wonderful place. One of the best beaches where in the right weather you can snorkel, catch lobster and surf too.

A couple of really nice places to eat. The bar nearby has a shower which you can use after hours if you ask. A good Mexican place 50m down the road too. One of the best free places we stayed at.

After a day spent with a horrific headwind we decided to splurge on the 25$ dorm and $20 dinner. We ended up with a private room in the guides/staff block, with an ensuite bathroom (tho hot shower in shared bathroom). It included breakfast which was probably what made it worth it. Buffet style including fruit and eggs to order. Dinner was alright, though probably not worth the price you pay in terms of quality and quantity, though we asked for more bread (fresh and warm) and that filled the gaps. Overall very welcoming and friendly to cyclists, WiFi was decent and though a bit expensive was a nice bit of comfort after a brutal day riding. Filled potable water for no cost.

Stopped here for lunch to shelter from a very strong wind. Nice spot in the middle of nowhere, very handy if experiencing some high winds. 2 "rooms" one of which is clean with space for a tent, other one looks to be used for cooking.
