Basic. Flat. Green-hard. People friendly such an Portugees couple. Dogs aloud. Electric, water, limited waste possibilities.
Perfect for quiet stay. In summer some shade brought along would be useful.

A friendly guy pointed us to this oasis in the middle of busy & dusty Chañaral. It's a public garden with trees, picnick benches, firepits, baños, electricity, and a garbage container (!)
Free for everybody to use. A bit old and worn down, but hey! this is northern Chile!
Enjoy!

Wonderful bakery. Chocolate croissant was excellent. We’ll stop back for sourdough bread before we leave.

Still there but we found a way to avoid them: driving north, exit right before the bridge and re enter the highway right after the bridge :)

Place is fantastic. New, huge locked parking attached, faces park, elevators, hot water, ac, wifi, super clean and very friendly staff. emailed ahead and got a room for 1 with breakfast for $30. Area seemed sketchy but park across the street, few shops and restaurants its kinda nice. Map shows it around the corner, not accurate. You will see the new 5 story building facing park.

Great place to break up a couple of long drives. 2000 for a matrimonio with good shower, good WiFi, and most importantly ample safe parking with no height restriction. There’s a surcharge for paying with card and breakfast is extra. Lovely owners who will recommend a great restaurant for dinner.

Easy border, no very pushy helpers needed. Pass all the trucks and pull into immigration parking on the left. Stamp out of Honduras cancel TIP, stamp pets put at OPSA window if needed. Drive across the bridge. Due to all the construction things get a little crazy. Official at the bridge will look at passport, give declaration form and send you towards fumigation building. I was told to park in the small lot on the left next to the immigration office. Did passport stuff inside and went looking for the DGA guy to inspect the vehicle but was told to do IPSA first. IPSA is a small green building on the far right past all the trucks parked. IPSA guy walked back and looked at the dog and cats then filled all paperwork sitting in my rig $30 US for 1 dog 2 cats. Inside again had to show new IPSA papers to x-ray guy and where they scan all documents. Insurance lady was waiting for me at the last checkpoint $12. All told it's not hard, just time consuming 3 hrs because I have pets. Make sure you have a ton of extra copies of everything. You don't need the very pushy helpers! They are expensive and not needed.

i point that charges you entrance fee 7k! even if you do just the smallest hike. only during working hours. e.g. you want to do the glacial hike at 3pm you cant cause it is estimated to take 4h and they close at 6. 1-2pm also siesta time.

mirador of volcanos and the glacial hike you cant connect it as a round unlike some maps suggest.

disgusting rules just like in many other parks, we only went here as it seemed there are no restrictions, so expect them here too.

tough road leads here

amazing forest up the pass

to be fair guard was friendly as the other post suggested

You cannot camp at the actual picnic area (with pit toilet and stuff) but there are plenty of cool little spots along the dirt road. Free roaming cows, just be carefull.
Cell reception was ok, sometimes absent.

This is a small hostal with kitchen, bathroom, wifi, electra and a very nice host. The hostal has two beautiful rooms. For camping we paid $150 and for a room $650 for two persons with breakfast.

Spent 3 nights here next to the hotel (free). Super quiet at night and during the day only a few surfers come by. No shade. If you are into surfing it’s perfect, fast right hand wave everyday (at least when we were there mid February, apparently it gets bigger during wet season).

There are showers in the right building next to the Pemex. It looks closed but there’s usually a woman in there. Just go in through the glas door, pay 30 pesos per person and you get a full bathroom for yourself with hot showers. It was very clean!

Camping in the parking lot is not special but the infrastructure: super clean toilet and hot shower (heated room!), laundry, book exchance, minimarket, restaurant with life music and excellent pizza (they have a real wood fired pizza oven!) - prices are fair for the whole ambiance and the portions you get. Free internet (very fast) on the outside patio and on the top floor they have the capitan lounge (open during marina office hours) with different seating possibilities and abundance power plugs where you can charge your electronic or work (fast internet - get the pw at the office). They even have a wonderful pool with a view and heated jaguzzi on the same level as the restaurant. Really worth the Mx 400 per night. Recommended!

We did the trek to Confluencia today. it's 1500 pesos per person (not 1800) for people from abroad (300 I think for Argentinos). The hike is really easy at the beginning, then a bit more steep but we did it in 5h30, including lunch time. The valley is pretty and colorful but it's really expensive. I think the trek to the laguna is enough to enjoy and way less expensive. If you have done Perou or salta before with the really colorful mountains, it's not better. We didn't so we enjoyed it. The guards at the entrance and at the confluencia (yes they check your tickets) were really unfriendly. First time in a few months in Argentina. Looks like the smile was in option, and the kindness too.

Delicious!!! Dinner only food truck/restaurant serves vacuna (mechada), smoked cerdo (pork) and chicken/turkey sandwiches on big soft rustic buns. They serve XL empanadas veggie and non-veggie as well as papas rústicas with your choice of carne mechada on top.

Oh and the sauces!! They have close to 30 different house made sauces for your taste bud pleasure to add to any of your dinner selections.

Sometimes they have house made beer which was also made really well compared to other artesanal breweries in Chile.

$5000 sandwich
$1500-2200 empanadas
$5000-$8000 papas rústicas with carne mechada

Also fresh made juices and bottled sodas.

Sit outside under a covered patio (has heaters when is cold). Indoor seating coming soon.

We rate this in the top 3 places we tried. (We we’re here 11 days waiting on parts...)
