Dirt lot on the corner of the Alaskan highway and Mile 73 road. Enough room for probably 6 or 8 rigs depending on the size. Nothing special. Just a place to stop.

Exactly as reported. About 10 feet from the curb. Valve needs to be held down in order for water to flow, but worked fine.

From there you can find this place with google satelit.
Here it is more calm and a well hidden flat place. not for big rings. We was on a saturday here, and it was silent the whole night. Perfect place for one night.

Place for 2-3 Land Rover if you know each other ;-)

Car park of the sailing club, ask at the bar for permission, freely given. Great views over the lake, very quiet, but could be noisier later in the season. Fresh mulberries from the trees (in season). Restaurant in high season.

Second option to park overnight in public carpark outside the club boundary.

Visiting the pyramids needs a bit of planning to be able to enjoy it.

The one most important advice: Come as early as possible! You will avoid the crowds, the air is still nice and fresh, and all the hasslers haven’t arrived yet.

The gates open at 7am in the morning during summer. We were the first ones to enter the area and had the pyramids to ourselves for the first couple of hours.

Buy your ticket online before you arrive to avoid ticket scams at the gate (check Google Maps)

Ignore everyone and everything. Scammers will tell you, that the specific gate you chose only opens later/doesn‘t open at all, and you have to take their taxi to the other entrance. This is all a lie, of course. Be patient, stay friendly and hold your ground. This is Egypt. Gates will open not 7am sharp, but a few minutes later.

If you’re reasonably fit, avoid the camel herders/donkey cart riders/taxi drivers. Distances are not that far, you can easily walk around the whole compound to the far end. Going alone certainly gives you way more flexibility to snap photos. It helps to take advantage of the cooler morning air.

Note, that there are no „prohibited“ areas. You are free to move around the whole area and towards the desert, even if camel herders might claim otherwise. Just ignore them, they didn’t persist in our case.

Even around the pyramids themselves you can walk up to the very base. The only one obvious rule is, that you are not allowed to climb the pyramids themselves.

If you’re keen on photography, choose the Sphinx gate. Walk up to the Great Pyramid, then immediately head south through open area towards the 9 Pyramids lounge. This will ensure, that you have the sun coming from the right direction. The lounge will only open at 9am. Nobody will hassle you if you hang around at this time plus you‘ll get the classic shot of camels before pyramids, when all the herders drive up their camels at around 8am to the „official“ viewpoint (which you can skip, unless you want to do the touristy thing and get on a camel).

Beautiful spot provided by the local government free of charge ! Flat, clean, spotless toilets, with water. It seems to be primarily designed for tent campers, but we parked our Sprinter van in one of the allotted parking spaces and it did not seem to bother anybody. The parking spaces would be a little tight for a super big rig but we are 7m long and we managed to fit in Ok. The drive to the cape is awesome and views from the observatory are spectacular!

Stopped on a Sunday to pay our park fees (with a camping booking made in advance at Baines Camp). There was one friendly guy working, it took a while but we were able to pay on card. 910BPW for one night for 2x SADC residents and a car. Our 7 year old didn’t have to pay!

We found this big flat open space next to some old ruins. Well hidden from the road, but you hear the trucks. Some women walked by in the evening, all friendly. Amazing view at the mountains.

Attention! Today, in the Soriana parking lot, 3 guys tried to rob me with a gun. Maybe they wanted to take my truck. They tried to drag me into my truck, but I pushed the one with the gun away and asked for help. They ran away. There was an interesting detail. There was no one in the parking lot on the right side, but then an old red truck (I didn’t think of taking a photo of it) drove up very, very close to me and seemed to block the view. I think it's an accomplice. Zihuatanejo becomes unsafe.

We tried this place after crossing the boarder with Paraguay at night. I confirm there’s still a free camping area with toilets (a bit dirty and with some big spiders, we didn’t used it). We didn’t look after the showers. The gate was closed when we arrived on the road but we opened it ourselves.

The place was really peaceful and we have some great hours of sleep, but there’s soooo much mosquitos ! We had a roof tent, a lot of repelent and a net that kept us safe for the big ones but we had to leave after 3 hours of sleeping because of tiny tiny mosquitos and hundred of bites… We didn’t manage to stop them.

So we don’t recommend this place until you have a perfect isolation.

Needed a place to stop and sleep. Found this gravel lot that is labeled on Apple Maps as a park and ride. No signs indicating we couldn’t park there. It is basically just a gravel turn around out in the middle of farm fields. We stayed one night with a 29’ fifth-wheel. No one bothered us. There was some freeway noise though. Easy access off and back on the freeway.

As described, super nice hostel and good vibe with Juan Carlos who is an amazing host. He cares to make you feel at home, sharing beers, bbq and anecdotes with all the guests. Perfect spot for cyclists, enough space to store your stuff safely while you go for a trek. He can give you advices on transportation and on the region and he is planning on developing the hostal. I could only recommend this place ! 25s/p

Not far off the road but heaps of space for wild camping, some sections right by the cliff looking down at the riverbed. Quiet spot, no cars went by the night we camped, didn't see any people, just some cattle and goats around, plenty of bird life, sign of elephants but we didn't see any. get here by following the obvious dirt vehicle track off the road.
