We stayed here, coming from Namibia. Because the border crossing took us 2 hours and the track after the ferry took us almost 2 hours (very sandy track), we didn't make it before sunset, but we were welcomed by a very friendly caretaker (only speaks Portuguese). We camped in the parking lot of the camp, and used one of the bathrooms of the tents (but there's also a camping ablutions with donkey). We could also use the kitchen and there's potable (filtered) water in the kitchen. To our surprise, there is WiFi...
We didn't see any animals, both at sunset or at sunrise the next morning. Price is 250 NAD pppn (including the ferry).

We camped at the RV spaces near the gas pumps. Definitely a little loud but it was ok for a night. A couple other vans spent the night as well. Good Verizon service.

Only formal campsite around. Very nice we stayed 4 nights. Best spot is across the lake behind the restaurant. You have a kitchen with a sink, stove, refrigerator and a grill as well as new bathrooms with hot showers. We paid 100 reals per night for 2 persons in a camper. The campsite is on the outskirts of town next to what smelled at night like a pug farm, just fyi. Still recommend it

THIS PIN IS NOT A CAMPSITE. I will not mark it to be deleted because it is helpful to mark the road in. keep going a couple of miles past this point, and after the parking lots for ATV riders, you will find campsites. the first 3 are accessible with 2wd. after that you will need high clearance and 4 wd due to deep loose sand and ruts over rocks. if you camp overnight in the parking lots, you may get a ticket because it isn't quite on BLM yet.

We slept here one night. Everything was ok. But you have to know that the trains pass and honk the horn. There is water available.

Dormimos una noche, todo estuvo bien. Hay canilla de agua. Tienes que saber qué pasa el tren y toca la bocina, así qué tal vez te despierte.

An update for 2024. Do NOT attempt this during rainy season or during a week with ANY chance of rain.

The last 2 km up to this point are dirt. It starts with a lot of gravel within the dirt for decent traction, even in the rain. Then, the rocks disappear and it’s super steep and only mud. We got stuck at a big incline and couldn’t back down without sliding. No tow trucks would come get us… there wasn’t anything to do except wait for the mud to dry out. With the next week calling for rain, we packed our bags and prepared to abandon the van.

Luckily, Graham (Graham’s Place on iOverlander) rescued us with his tiny tractor, someone lowering us down slow enough with a tow rope and digging himself into the mountain so we both didn’t slide down. 5 hours later, and we were free.

Don’t be stupid like me. That was the scariest situation I’ve ever been in with the van. Even with BFG All Terrain tires, AWD, and a strong engine, any time I tried to reverse and use the brakes, we slid 1+ meters before stopping.

The hike looks beautiful though. You can hike from lower. There’s nowhere good to park at this point anyway. I’ll attach a picture of the trail sign.

Asked security if it was okay to sleep in the parking lot and they said yes, as long as we stayed towards the streets, near the sign. We didn't end up sleeping there after all (went to the Walmart instead), because the sign was a bit bright. Seemed decent enough otherwise!

Can confirm: $2 for 15 minutes. Stall was clean enough, water was hot. Would DEFINITELY recommend flip-flops or similar for the shower though, since there's a carpet right in front of the shower. Decent enough otherwise!

You'll be sharing the same room with the toilet, so others might go in and out while you're in there, but like it was mentioned before, there's a privacy curtain at least.

Parked one street over across from Hey Sugar. Train runs along Jackson Ave so I’d recommend going 1-2 streets down from that. But easy parking with plenty of big spaces for our van. Very short walk to the silos in the morning for coffee and walking paths for our dogs

I took the fork in the road and went right, up the hill. Found a small campsite, just off of the road. Just enough room for my nissan Xterra and the camp I made. Camp overlooks a light clearing, nice views of the hills.

Saw one bicyclist roll by Sunday evening, and a couple turkey hunters drove by in the morning.

Happy Trails✌️👽

We were a little disappointed.
30S pp to enter the reserva. It is an obligation to enter with a guide in your 4x4. We were already 5 in our 4x4 and the guide was coming back only in 2-3 hours. We didn't want to wait this much so we declined and did not do the whole. Eventually, on our way to cuzco, we saw many condors and vicunas.

50 Sols for a double room. Hot water difficult to find but eventually came through. Large courtyard for bike was useful but not covered from rain. The other hotel is better. No restaurant when I was there.

The road keeps going down the ridge. I walked about a mile down to a fence line. There is one spot in the road, off camber, so high clearance is good to have. There are some level spots, but for disbursed camping there are few disturbed areas. So, for me this is really the last campsite.

Lovely location with all the amenities. It’s going to rain tonight so we’ve pitched our tent under the picnic shelter.

Stayed here for one night in a car. Asked at customer service and they said it was okay if we didn't block any lanes. Didn't get woken up by security or anything. Stayed close to the corner where "Sonic" is. Quiet and comfy, all in all. Got woken up relatively early and were politely asked to move, since some shipping containers were being unloaded. Can recommend!

Great spot to safely rest for the night. I was the only one here and drove to the trailhead. Lovely nature sounds and fireflies! There are also very aggressive biting deer flies and mosquitos.

I had a really nice stay there after hard days cycling through the mountains. They only have private room. Ask for 15€. I payed 20€ for room+breakfast+dinner+washing mashine+a new clamp for my bicycle. Finner and breakfast were huge portions and really tasty. She adk me on arrival if I am vegetarian 😊. Room had a fan no AC no heater. They have western toilets with toilet paper and good coffee. Irancell 3G available but no wifi
