Absolutely excellent. Relaxing, flat, still no signs and had no issues. Stayed here once July ‘23 and the joggers/cyclists started early in the AM… this time it was sprinkling and there was next to no one! (Great bird watching if you’re into that kind of thing) Such a great spot let’s keep it open - leave no trace :)!

A lot of full timers living here. Showers were okay - only lasted 15 seconds each push but were hot

The police woman of the checkpoint south was fine with us staying here. Pretty spot, climb at the rock formation and enjoy the plains! Cattle passing by. Some noise from the road.

great option for a night, we got there at 3pm (admittedly a bit early) and left at 8.30am. few other people sleeping in their cars there but felt safe. toilets pretty clean, lots of picnic benches and a variety of vending machines with drinks and snacks. like others have said it's a busy stop but gets a lot quieter after dark, would recommend earplugs though for the trucks that use the stop and leave their engines on. overall surprisingly nice rest stop!

We camped here two nights, everything as described, sometimes some locals are passing by car, but not a big deal. be sure to avoid following google maps' instructions when coming from the centre. Instead follow the main road to Vashlovani and turn left as you approach the lake

We arrived at the Guergerat border, with our car, at 2:30pm (14h30).

We ate at the little restaurant just before the border. It was delicious by the way: fried chicken with a lemon sauce and some french fries.

We started the border crossing at 3pm (15h).

On the Moroccan side:
1. Officers check your passport and stamp it « out ». They also check your vehicle’s documents (not the insurance, but its registration document). There was no need for a CDP at all.
2. Then, officers make you wait in line to get your vehicle checked. We got our car checked by a dog (quite big). There was no scanner/X-Ray machine. Everything was done under some shade, which was a relief !
3. Officers then ask for your «Validity Card» (it is given to you when you enter Morocco with a vehicle). Unfortunately, we lost the card so we had to enter some building to have a new paper printed out/stamped so we could leave Morocco.
4. Officers check one last time your passport and your vehicle’s documents on your way out.

After the Moroccan side of the border, we crossed the so-called “no man’s land”: it was short, the road was a little bumpy and there were plenty of garbage everywhere.

Onto the Mauritanian side:
1. We entered a first building where an officer checked our passports and vehicle’s documents. No need again for a CPD.
2. Then we entered another building (Police building) where another officer checked our passports again and asked for our final destination.
3. Then, we got our car checked by another officer and his dog (quite big too).
4. After these first steps, the officer gave our passports to a “fixer/passeur”. We wanted to do everything on our own, but didn’t really have a choice.
5. Our fixer, Rabat, then got us our “passavant” for 100MAD (10€).
6. Then, we went to another big building where we got a note from an office that enabled us, at another office, to get our visas printed. The visas were 650MAD/person if you don’t carry euros, otherwise it is 55€/person.
7. Then we went back to the office that got us the note a little earlier to have our visas stamped.
8. In a final office, still in the same building, some officer made photocopies of your passports/visas.
9. The final step was getting some insurance for our car. Rabat, our facilitator, recommended CNA. We thus bought our insurance there: 311MAD (31€) for 10 days. We taught it was a bit expensive but didn’t want to risk buying our insurance in Nouadhibou with all the checkpoints leading to the city. Also, our car has 17 fiscal horsepower, so the insurance is a bit more expensive they said.

We didn’t buy our SIM card at the border, although many people there tried to sell us one. We thought the prices would be better in Nouadhibou, but turns out it was extremely hard to find a SIM provider in town. We ended up buying a SIM from a guy at a gas station: 2GB of data for 30 days for 700OUG (17€).

We did not change our last MAD into OUG at the border (but should have because we didn’t find any exchange office in Nouadhibou), but you can do so there, without any trouble.

For the Mauritanian border, we recommend you pay things in Euro (cheaper than in MAD).

We also think having a fixer/passeur is not necessary, everyone is friendly there and points you to the right building. Rabat was, however, very patient and queued like everyone else. He was also very friendly ! We paid him 100MAD and took his contact in case anyone is in need of help for future border crossings:

WhatsApp: +22247579615

Overall, we left the Mauritanian border at 6:45pm (18h45). We felt very welcomed on the Mauritanian side, everyone was smiling, even officers !

I 🖤 this campground! $10/night is a steal of steals! Gorgeous area, I was the only one camping at the time, and it snowed on me. Easy road in/out, Chadron is close by with all the chain stores for restocks. Great place, although the road is a little noisy during the day.
