Nice spot overlooking the laguna.

The launa route should be driven only with 4x4 vehicles and high clearance. The route is 400 km long with no options to buy grocery or fuel. The consumption is high due to the altitude (4000-5000 m).

If there is no camping or other option nearby you can camp safe in the parking lots of the countless toll stations in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Clean toilets, because of the road next door not exactly quiet at night.

Located in the Vale dos Vinhedos between Garibaldi and Bento Gonçalves is the winery "Casa Valduga" where you can go on a very nice tour to the wine cellar including wine and champagne tasting (20 Reales / person). Unfortunately, you can not camp on site.

At kilometer 15 on the road between Novo RS 235 Petróplis and Gramado a five-kilometer muddy path turns to Rio Caí. At the river there is a very rustic campsite. With the camper you can park out on a grassy area next to the grill hut. The last meters to the campsite are quite steep and there is a tight curve. The bathroom is very rustic, but has hot showers (which we didn't use).

Worth visiting the open air museum "Parque Aldeia do Imigrante" in Novo Petróplis (5 Real / person) at S 29.37278 W 51.10728.

Good, German sourdough bread available in Cafe & Cia. Novo Petróplis at S 29.37430 W 51.10889. The German butcher "Suibom" sells good sausage and meat on the road to Gramado at S 29.34706 W 51.02524.

On longer overland trips along the Brazilian highways you can always stay in the huge recreation areas. In addition to a gas station there is always a restaurant as well as toilets and showers for truck drivers. We stayed overnight between the trucks, the guardian asked for a small tip (a truck driver confirmed to us that two reales would be ok). Quite noisy at night because some trucks run their engines.
