Traditional headhunter village. It is more like an open air museum, because nobody is living there. We didn't get an explanation, because the king was in the fields and no one else was able/allowed to tell something about the history. We saw the outside of traditional houses and women trying to sell souvenirs.

Up a path/track about 200m from the main (unsurfaced) road. A few motorbikes came past but no one bothered us, not hidden from the main road but even this is fairly quiet.

Passable in dry season (apparently it completely drys by the end of the dry season)
We passed at the end of November and it was ok (about 30cm deep) but the locals helped - be aware that there is a concrete culvert/bridge over the deepest bit but this was hidden when we were there. Without local help or checking the location of this it is possible to miss this and drive/tip into the very deep bit.

Locals said that even a week previously it was impassable.

In the wet season the locals use canapes to cross this and say it is possible with a small bike in the canoes but completely impassable by 4x4.

Having crossed from Ghana we were sent here by immigration (at boarder) l

We showed the man in the office our Carnet and he said it is not necessary in Togo and we left with no stamp and no paperwork. Hopefully it'll be ok?!

Great comfortable place. There was a bit of confusion about the price but I ended up getting a double room for 15,000. Hot water, Wifi and breakfast. Really nice staff. The restaurant attached is great value.
The access to the lodge is from the Southside.

Very traditional village. Extremely welcoming people, no tourist commerce. Very interesting encounter with weaving women. Tourists are requested fo visit with a guide only. Guesthouse available. The access road was better than we expected.

Don’t bother trying to sleep here on a weekend. All that mate keeps this town up until 4am easy on a Friday and for some reason the hip thing to do is party at your car in this parking lot blasting music. If you want a party night though, plenty of cool spots with beers around!

Really nice place, just as described. Some locals on the beach for fishing on a Saturday morning, but no one in this flat spot. There’s some beach breaks for surfing

Nice gravel park near a park and some sports amenities.
We slept here one winter night, very quiet and with a nice view over the park.
Please, leave the place clean.

Note: you can find different places around, see blue pins on the map picture.

Good place to stay and for free !!
Around 10 sites with picnic tables and fire pits.
Some of them with electricity (3).
The toilets are located in the end of the first road on the right. Pretty quiet (except for the road). Good view of the lake on one side.

Abandoned House along they road. Half of the roof was still there. Good for cyclists and motorbike riders. Parking is car is not possible without being seeing from the road. About 1.3 km north was a kind of parking area with a little shop and mechanic I think. People with a car maybe can stay overnight there.

Alet Ferry Port to/from Aktau and Turkmenbashi.

Coming from Turkmenbashi on the Bagtiyar: Ferry arrived in port at 9pm. Drivers first to disembark at 10pm, on foot, to clear immigration. Better to bring "vehicle passport" on board in Turkmenbashi because no access to vehicle before getting off boat and they ask for it at immigration. Baggage scan, then walk around to dock and wait for boat's ramp to lower. Walk on to boat and drive off onto dock, stopping first at customs. $17 insurance for 650cc motorcycle--bring exact change. No other fees at this office for me, though maybe for larger engine sizes, according to English-speaking insurance guy.

Ride toward port exit and pay $20 port fee. That's it! Easy.

Davinci is a paintshop that is friendly with travellers, it is good place for doing some mechanics by yourself, has got great room for a big rig, a clean bathroom, the staff here is very helpful and prompt. if you need just the space for a few days to do some repairings, it's a good choice because it's close to many specialised workshop like Metalurgica El Yunke that are willing to help.
When you reach the paintshop look up for Miguel ( the owner of the hall )

As other message says we stayed in the secondary public parking site, it have a good FREE Wi-Fi and bathrooms to use next to the parking. There are lot of spots buy it was full at 10am we arrived. Suppose at night will be empty so huge cars will be OK. No showers.

I know the title doesn't sound very romantic but I wrote it before actually successfully finding a sheltered spot. this whole stretch of road along the coast is pretty busy and it's hard to find privacy but this shot isn't too bad. About 100 meters north of the pin, there's a dirt road leading into the desert. From the dirt road there are dirt path off-shoots into the excavated quarries that allow you to escape anybody's view.

plenty of flat level ground. ground is solid and a heavy motorcycle is capable of getting out here
