Texaco gas station. In lady's bathroom there is a clean and free shower, not too cold in sunny days. I took a shower with underwear because the shower had glass door (nobody got into the bathroom anyway). Shower for men costs 2k pesos they said.
~
Estacion Texaco. En el baño de mujeres hay una ducha limpia y gratis, no tan fria en dias soleados. Me bañé con bikini porque la ducha tenia puertas de vidrio igualmente no entró nadie al baño. La ducha para hombres cuestan 2mil pesos dijeron.

----------18-05-23 ------- GOING NORTH
Free toll here. After 8km starts the "desvio", it is 2km long, in good condition, goes down first and then goes up (steep). There was a lot of trafic. Trucks drove well but cars were advancing other vehicles so it got stucked. Maybe if you go after midnight there will be not many cars!! ON THE WAY UP EACH VEHICLE HAS TO HAVE IT OWN SPACE TO BE ABLE TO GO UP WITHOUT GET STRUMBLED. After those 2km the route continues normal and you have Las Rosas town to stop for a rest.
~

As said never seen so many RV and campers in a Walmart parking.
We arrived around 7pm and already a lot of people on the parking lot. Left around 10pm easy.
Sleepy tight, not so much noise and pretty flat.

Only one campsite is now accessible via this road, the one marked at this pin. Spurs beyond this pin have been blocked by NP fiberglass barriers. The first pics in this post seem to be incorrect. As stated below, the boulder area is not accessible by vehicle and the pics show juniper which do not exist here. Another location?

We have a pickup and a 30' trailer. Dirt road in was wide enough to prevent limb scratches. Sandy surface when dry was adequate in 2WD. Fenced camping area at coordinates had plenty of room for multiple large vehicles. Level. Silent, peaceful night. I-40 headlights visible many miles to the east. Interesting wildlife - desert kangaroo rats (active at night), lizards almost everywhere, a snake that casually popped out of a hole next to us (nonvenomous), and something small that loped by our window after dark. Boulders at the base of the mtn across the wash made for great exploring.

Note: large vehicles need to go back out the way you came in from this point. Made the mistake of relying on satellite photos and 2022 post and initially explored further down the road and had to clear the road as we went, as it had overgrown substantially. No turnarounds for a rig our size.

We spend 2 nights at this lovely place right at the beach.
Good WiFi, clean toilets and the shower is ready to use!
5 dollar per night which is very good value for money.

So nice family who really is taking care of their guests.

Simple but good food and beautiful self made jugos.

Before the hike up the volcano we stayed one night at the camp spot. After returning we spend another night at the backside of the restaurant. Ulices even took us with a motorbike a bit up the sendero and picked us up when we returned…for no money!
We start hiking 2:30pm and enjoyed sunset before peeking into the massive crater. It takes 3 hours to go up. Walking back in the dark with a flashlight is no problem.

If you are visiting volcano Telica, this is the place to stay!

We paid $22,-pp The only road for cars leads to the Paradise crater. On the way, you pass another crater lake. The gates in the South were not open to leave there. We didn't see many animals, the forest is very dense, just at the lakes you might get lucky. The special campsite might be lovely for residents, but it is much too expensive for international visitors.

We had a really nice weekend here. It got a little crowded at the sites near the beach but plenty of room to camp a little further back. Amenities really great and as described. Helpful and friendly host Irley will give you a better deal the longer you stay from 30-40 R per person. There is no sign to see from the road and the gate is always closed, but GPS coordinates here are correct. Just open the gate and pull in. Enjoyed the surf and the bakery across the road!

----------------------------

This is the worst place you can go when you need mechanics. an unprepared, unprofessional person. who instead of helping us, broke our car, leaving us with a lot of problems. We had to go up route 3 on ice, with a car without power, belching smoke and dying. After 1,000km I went to find a mechanic who fixed the problems that Mr. Gonzalo caused us. Among them, he installed a high-speed pump sensor from another car that wasn't ours, lost the intake gasket, cut two wires from the nozzle point sensor. It cost us money, mental health and almost our travel plans. Don't take your car to this "mechanic"

The same: the gate closes at 2pm, so you should come before that time, and go out before 4pm. If you go overnight inside the park, you should arrive before the gates close. Otherwise, you can sleep right in front of the park at about 4400m altitude with great view of the volcano - the only bad is that the place is not that flat: /
_________

Great state park if you don’t mind having 0 privacy. Park was full this time of year. Lots of people out enjoying the good weather but it wasn’t our cup of tea. Showers were hot so that’s a plus. Paid $51/night.

We stayed one night 2p and motorhome and paid ARS 1,200 .
However, one of the worst campsites in 4mnths chili/argentina. Toilets/shower area not cleaned at all. So dirty, that we did not use showers.
Spots did have electricity, tables BBQ pit. Off season i do not recommend this.

The hotel itself looks nice and inviting.
But the lady who runs is it is a nightmare!
She always found a new reason to make me feel less comfortable:
1. Pay for towel (acceptable though)
2. Don't use the dining area, especially not while turning the lights on!
3. No use of shared shower for cheaper rooms
4. Don't put things in the refrigerator, because it will contaminate her butter!
5. General phrase: "Are you leaving tomorrow?"

The prize that was negotiated and agreed was obviously not suitable and therefore she tried to find something else every day.

Better go to Hotel Melody across the road!

Very quiet and fast border post as described, no customs.

However beware: the road in Zambia is very bad. We drove around 20km (which was challenging but fine) and then came to a spot where we could not pass with our cruiser. Road was not wide enough with holes up to two meters deep on both sides of the car. Could be the result of lot of rainfall of the past months.

We turned around and took the Tanzania border, which has excellent tar road.

Just a warning; if you decide to go to Zambia as we did and then turn around and try again via Tanzania make sure to go back to the officials in Chitipa to get your re-entry/visa sorted. We did this but were told it was not necessarily but then met a corrupt police officer at the other border who made a big fuss about it. Ended up paying him $30 so he would let us pass to Tanzania. He claimed we were illegal in the country now and we should head back to Chitipa to get new visa, which was $50 pp (we had a single entry visa).

A flat, spacious pullout. Could fit pretty much any rig. Beautiful stream right across the road with a spot to take a dip to freshen up. Fire pits and tent spots in the woods just next to the pullout. No cell service

Vast open area - plenty of camping spots available. We drove about 4 miles in & found a great spot. We hiked to the Red Rocks (approx 3 miles) to the NE. Found some beautiful rock formations. We later found out we were in the Arches National Park boundaries - we hiked to Tower Arch.

Was perfect for a quick stop to get some sleep. Plenty of food options, clean restrooms etc. I do think a street sweeper purposely kept doing loops around mine and 2 other vans at the back of the parking lot. Didn’t bother me though.

We also found the people here lovely, and they helped us organise to go see the gorillas without any of the additional costs like transport, accomodation etc that tour companies usually add on. However organisation is slow and difficult because network is very limited in the area, so I would definitely call ahead to try and organise it, and check back with them that it's organised before you arrive. Larissa organises gorilla trips: +241 06 12 41 12

So you can drive yourself, camp, cook your own meals. We did the trip in one day to save cost / time, but this was fairly tiring, because the road to get there (Doussala) is not ideal. Most of it is average quality dirt road, like all roads in Gabon, will be trickier if wet. It took us 3-3.5 hours when dry. Very beautiful drive and lots of wildlife to see, but the problem is the bridges - definitely wouldn't recommend for big rigs. We had some hairy moments and spent a lot of time rebuilding the bridges with spare planks and our bridging ladders. Did see some plank piles about - if they're still there maybe you should expect that the bridges haven't been fixed!

At Doussala, the guides and trackers were very professional and we got to spend a whole hour with the gorillas, a big group of them in the forest. Very special, but also very expensive and a tiring day. It cost 230000 per person.

if this is too expensive for you definitely do as mentioned and drive down to panga. the road is good and it's incredible down there. Afternoon / evening seemed to be the best time for us to spot wildlife there.. good luck!

This is the best and cheapest spot you can get at K59. Yogi is very friendly and likes to talk and even share some food. Everything is nicely organized and clean all the time. Toilets, shower and a nicely equipped kitchen for only $10 per night, considering the beach parking just near here is the same and u have no facilities.

You can park your van nearby or under a palapa with a view to the river and the sea with a light breeze, which is precious in El Salvador.

A bed in a dorm was $15 or $25 full room with fan and light but I have my tent and I wanted to be with my motorcycle, although it is super safe here.

Great surf, few mosquitoes and super mellow. Best spot for K59! Photos uploaded as the hostel is now totally renewed.
