Flat àrea with easy access from the road. Quite bumpy and dirty, but we could easily level our van. There is plenty of space also for big rigs. No noise except the river😉

To camp on the sand you’ll need an orange flag and an ATV permit. You can buy the flag at the grocery store at the corner of Sandlake and Galloway on the way in. They also helped me get the permit online and print it, only $10 valid for 2 years. To camp on the beach the fee is $5 a night. The sand is soft and my Sprinter is 2WD so I didn’t attempt it. You can definitely do it if you have 4WD.

7m rv got breaks jam in the main blvd, called Pepe and offered to come to assist for $800mx but also gave a few tips on the phone and I got it moving enough to reach his shop w\o paying that service.
Nice guy, mechnical engineer, not the cheapest but sure good quality work and his workers are very knowledgeable as well in all kinds of cars small
And big. Spend half the day there and left with the problem solved for 800mx + parts. Change of pistons inside the calipers(rusted).

This place was beautiful - easy to get to, nice and quiet. Like others said google maps will try to have you drive down in the wash, just keep following the road. Lots of different spots on both sides some with fire pits.

stayed here for a night in a pinch because the park campground didn’t have showers. $33 for one night. had to leave $1 tip for local advice which i thought was tacky, showers were dirty & full of spiders. $2 for 3 minutes for the shower, which is ridiculous. one stall in each bathroom. need a key to get into the bathrooms & showers & you get one per spot. would only stay here in a pinch if you have to

Pigeon Forge Cracker Barrel, pretty large parking lot. Got very quiet later in the night. Parking lot sits right below King Kong, got a great view of his ass 🥴
Make sure to get dinner or breakfast, and clean up any trash you see in the parking lot.

Nice rest area. Some truck and freeway noise, but less after midnight. Nice for an overnight sleep and lots of parking spots.

lake was crystal clear, road access was fine, a little bumpy. not a ton of space, only 3 defined sites but room to squeeze more in.
great for an overnight if you're driving through or a couple more if you want.

Still $20 cash, Canadian for a tent, 1 person on a motorcycle. Plenty of space, camping at the far end of the RV park, some shade- owner clearly a Trump fan, but don’t let that put you off. Clean toilets, shower and laundry facilities. Restaurant on site, very reasonable prices. Good place to stay for a night.

Not an actual campsite, but space for 5 to 6 small camper vans. Some spots with shade, others at the beach.
Clean showers and toilettes, beach bar, Sauna...
You can rent bicycle, SUP, boat... Excellent for swimming.
Very nice owner and staff.
There is already older info about this place, but at wrong location. Don't get confused.

We stayed one night in our van. pretty level spot for van or smaller camper but no turnaround for larger rigs. other spots had better views but it was getting late and we needed to get our little one to bed. 2 bars Verizon and 3-4 LTE bars T-Mobile. There were conflicting signs about LaSal Loop Rd being closed up ahead (one sign said Geyser Pass Rd was closed, another sign said La Sal Loop Rd would be closed 6/17/2024, etc). We never saw actual road closure signs but maybe they were up ahead however there were several passing vehicles up through 10pm (then pretty quiet) so you wonder where they were going if road was closed ahead. Who knows!

The border itself is actually quite ok. Two hours in total.

BUT:
At least for a truck (doesn't matter if it is a camper) you now MUST have an electronic ticket (=appointment)! All the officers I talked to said that.

Of course the website for such a ticket (CarGoRuqsat) doesn't send the SMS code for the activation! So you are at mercy with the one and only guy in a little shady "shop" just outside the very first gate.

He wanted 6000 Tenge. When you ask questions or try to haggle, you will be ignored - forever. If you manage to be heard again, he will do the appointment, but will tell you, your vehicle insurance is fake. In the end he used "his".

At least he does the toll-payment for you, if you haven't done so already.

After a bit more than three hours I got the ticket and could proceed through the first barrier, where your appointment is checked - nothing else. From then on, it was quite ok. A bit of chaos, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Customs is always on the right side, passport control is always on the left. We had to pay ~54.000 (3,99€) for something in Uzbekistan (with a receipt, so probably valid).

There's a small shack close to the end of the "border street" with a sign "APEX Insurance". You can get a vehicle insurance for 15 days for 2$ - we didn't even haggle.

It's the right door.

(Before you get there you will probably be contacted by different guys selling all kinds of stuff. Be aware: It seems as if it gets/is common, just like in Iran, to leave off some zeros when telling you the price, e.g. 100.000 "is" 10.000 or even 1.000.)

Easy border and fast crossing. Especially the TJ side. We got waved to the front at every step. We were asked straight away how long we want to stay and got this many days for our truck as well.

We payed 25$ road tax (with receipt and everything).

Not difficult in a capable 4x4, but rock hard, very bumpy and not very interesting road. About 2.5 hours in a Hilux. Start and end are the worst, middle has some nice gravel where you can make up time. From Lumangwa to Kawambwa is better.

Located in the centre of Cain surrounded on all sides by mountains, a local supermarket provides a free car park on flat grass between an orchard and the river. In my opinion, it would be impolite not to follow the accepted practice of spending money at the supermarket and the local cafes who provide such a delightful and welcome service. Very friendly people. Many thanks to the delightful proprietors for a super stay. Access to Cain village demands a bit of courage and patience due to the narrow, single lane gorge road. Absolutely no big rigs. Nothing more than 7m is allowed on the roads here. A cluster of cafes. Fresh water fountain nearby.
Start/end of the 24km Ruta de Cares footpath which is absolutely stunning. Please keep the path clean and take your toilet roll home with you!

We didn’t stay here. They have a strange tarif system. Camping in car is 10USD pppn (which today worked out at 540kw for two. A room with en suite was 380kw. No negotiation.
Place looked quite nice but we went on to canary lodge instead.

Great place. During my visit there was sadly no access to the water, as the beach has a quicksand-like character. Otherwise very beautiful and calm.
