After reading all choices here personally we feel this was the best.
$64.000 (it is a tourist location…)
At the restaurant we had delicious trout from the farm just up the road, delicious.
Big restaurant and large parking area; we were shown where to be in very back of restaurant for more privacy. They also have a lot specifically for tent camping. Clean (except after a big weekend with lots of tourists); they have bathrooms and showers with warm water. The owners are so nice! Juan de Baptist & son Juan Sebastian.
We met Néstor who is a guide and spent Monday doing a big 9mile loop with him learning all the history of area & the Wax Palms. Miguel is the gate manager and can introduce you to Néstor and the owners if you’d like to meet them.

Beautiful spot by the sea. Small village but unsure if there are any shops etc. 240 volt Power is available .

Beautiful place as described, we decided not to stay. Our visit was on Saturday and the many beers bottles around made our gut to decide keep going.
We finally slept at the Conaf Parking in front of Pan de Azúcar, very safe & quiet.

This place is not free. The guy said 10$ per day on the phone and said 15$ per day on site. I told him that when I talked to him it was 10$ and he let me stay for 10$. He also parked behind my van to be sure I will pay. I didn’t like it. Next time I will go just in front at the Red Claw Restaurant instead. Same price.

Stayed one night in the large paved lot to the left. Pit toilets avaliable. Seems like it's closed in the winter due to snowmobiles using the area. Some road noise but not bad.

Sweeping 360 views. Beautiful spot. Mosquitoes were horrible, but at another time of year this would be the best site ever!

Great tip! Backed my van up to the water spikes and pulled out the hose to top off my water tank.
This trail head is busy on a Saturday afternoon. So be patient and be quick.
Thanks for the tip!

Decent but basic place, kind and friendly owners. This is also known as Hospedaje Malvin on Google and Booking.com.

The path is blocked by a fallen tree and is heavily overgrown we were unable to access the shelter. We moved about 100m further down the road to a old cattle loading ramp. Check the next entry

A bit further down from the old shelter wild camping spot which is inaccessible. This spot is jus before the turn when heading south, it is pretty close to the road I would say 30m

Very expensive camping. Paid 34 euro for a tent. Although you can use the sauna and the pool. No wifi on the site. You have to pay extra for electricity.

Stayed here 3 nights with no problem. Plenty of other vans, Rv and car campers. Some RV look like they are here permanently. There are no parking after 11pm signs but it does not seem to be enforced. Walking distance to a laundry mat, food and 4 min drive to a planet fitness.

Nice, rocky riverside area. So far very quiet with just us and a couple local river watchers. River is a little high at the moment but not dangerously so.

$27 for electric/water. If arriving after 7, make sure to go to the office to register for the spot. Directions unclear at campsite . Same day online registration closes at 7pm. Think we got one of the last spots. sounds like they overbooked, but it is a Friday.

Fine for a night but more mosquitoes than I’ve encountered anywhere in this area. Stepped outside for 1 minute and suffered about 80 bites haha, otherwise great spot

I had posted Pauline’s Lodge but forgot to add phone numbers, so I adding them.

There is no sign at the gate when I was here, as Pauline was just opening. I’m sure it will be soon to follow.
They are right across from the green church along the road, a red sliding gate (kind of hidden in the trees, but you will see the driveway access) A yellow house with a green roof.

Drove about 2 miles down Mt. Hebo road and found a nice big pull off. Room for at least 2 vans or small campers. Very level, slept in our small teardrop just fine. Light traffic throughout the night and into the morning, but still slept great. No “no” signs and was not bothered by anyone. Overall, great place to crash overnight while still being just off the coast.

Convenient place to park up on a rainy night, rained a lot and site and access still ok in the morning. Room for a few campers including big rig though just by the road. Traffic very quiet at night. There were battalions of mosquitoes though. Didn’t venture to see the lake because of that.

Beautiful spot!!! 48.79544, -86.43424
