Large area perfect for big rigs. Some people there also. Not much intimacy. There is a trail that leads to the river down but it has been partially destroyed by i dont know what. Not much cell signal.

The rest area was reasonably quiet for being on the interstate. There were a lot of van and car campers. Nonetheless, we slept well. If you're like me and get "welcome to" state sign photos, it's up the hill, as well. :)

This public parking lot is perfect! Safe, close to all the Canandaigua activity including a beautiful lakeside park. The lot is next to a brewery and has signs for public parking. The signs don’t say anything about overnight parking so not breaking any rules. The lot filled up in the morning with kayakers and paddle boarders. Highly recommend if you’re in the area especially because the Walmart in Geneva (which was my first go-to) has signs everywhere saying no overnight camping.

We had our pick of lakeside sites arriving about 4 pm at this lovely campground. Likely due to the fact we were late in the season. Highly recommended!

There are "no overnight parking" signs now, they look new so probably went up since the last review. We talked to a local who is also a fellow nomad, and he said the police usually don't care, but when they do care they usually only bother people in un-converted cars and trucks, but not RV's. He also said they will tow your car if you leave it overnight unattended.

We decided to chance it regardless of the signs and had no trouble at all. We stayed for two nights, and left our trailer unoccupied for most of a day and evening while we visited Boston. We didn't have to disconnect our tow vehicle to do this so I'm not sure if it would work the same way if you don't have something else to drive wherever you're going.

It's about medium noisy with sirens and road traffic if you are in the farthest back lot like we were. There was a TON of trash spread all over, which I'm guessing wasn't from nomads but usually gets blamed on us so be sure to leave it better than you found it :) We picked up a few used condoms and diapers with our load, ew.

Totally a good place to stop. Quiet at night, after that the vendors left and a nice little walk to very nice ruins, about 1h, perfect to stretch your legs.
Altitude is about 3800m, but temperature wasn't that cold.

Google maps took us to the wrong entrance, so when you get there go in the entrance with the blue sign. Follow the signs back to the dump station, then be sure to follow the instructions written on the wall. I've posted a picture of what they look like right now, but make sure to look for any updates as we were told they will be installing a better system soon.

The picture shows the sign on the wall, the standard RV dump port that they want you NOT to use (it clogs), and the grated hole in the ground that they DO want you to use, with the spray painted "RV" markings.

No fresh water. Dumping is free :)

As other people wrote: many dispersed camping spots along this road. This one is a bit further down the road. Nice and quiet, huge spot, with a view over the white rocks. Nice to put your van/RV in the sun at the end of the day.

Now $70pp, last tour at 4pm. No bags of any description allowed, just phone, camera and water - they have lockers available at the visitor centre where the shuttle leaves from for anything you're not comfortable to leave in your vehicle.

Outstanding beach camping!

Late August Thursday and only 2 campers present. The road coming in is a bit rocky and high clearance is recomended. Beach sand is soft and 4WD is absolutely necessary.

Simple and cozy camping, facing Desdemona, with protection from the wind, bbq, a small shop and snack bar. Miguel very friendly. The bathroom is under renovation and does not have a shower. It's worth spending a late afternoon on the deck and enjoying a beautiful starry sky!

JM is a wonderful host. It was already half past 9pm and we still haven’t found a place in Eldoret.
We contacted him on what’s app and he replied immediately that he has place for us.
He had a lot of recommendations for Kenya and helped us a lot. We paid 1800 Shillings for the room. The house has a huge garden and he said in the future he might open a campsite and it’s also possible that overlanders can come to stay in his garden with the car.

Thus place is definitely open. Still as described. Needs a bit of TLC.
