Absolutely loved this place. Had a very peaceful night with not one car driving past between 6 pm and 9 am. Stunning view across the mountains and lovely sunset.

Crashed a night on the side street right in front of the zoo. Light traffic and a few dog walkers but that was about it. Left early since there is a school right there. No bothers no signs no knocks

Very good spot, wind sheltered, away from attention. One main spot and two potential smaller and less flat ones.

good spot near Coyahique. I do not understand the previous comment, the area is a big gravel spot along the road, not possible to be "closed".

Slept at the end of Calle Davis. Safe place to sleep one night. A bit noisy in the morning because of the trash truck. Wifi code from the restaurant El Zopilote.

Nice, quiet and safe place to spend one or more nights right at the river. Free.
Super nice beach just next to it.

Nice spot. It’s not secluded, but nobody bothered us. Closest is a fisherman’s house and the behind you up the hill is another house but you can only see the roof area so pretty much out of view of that property. There is a steep rocky patch of road going down to the beach. We used 4x4 to get back up in the morning.

Take the dirt road before hitting the little village at the dead end of this main road. It’s a very short dirt road leading to a level turnaround with stairs leading down to a tiny, beautiful and pretty epic beach. No cell service (even with a signal booster) but there is an active hotel down the beach and within sight.

The road is dirt and and uneven in spots, but totally doable in 2WD. High roofs might be an issue but the foliage is light and doesn’t appear capable of tearing off any solar panels (It didn’t mine). Definitely not for big rigs, but perfect for VanLifers.

My first day a motorcycle cop stopped by to enjoy the scene and left without a care. I waved to him as he left. A local walked by and said, “You’ve come to the best place”.
A few locals and gringos congregated at sunsets and sunrises and a 20-something couple pulled up in a van and slept on the beach (after building a fire).

The second evening a large group of gringos came to do the same. And some young partying locals made a stop at 3:00 am and left 30 minutes later.

A wonderful, near constant, soft ocean Breeze with 52dB of waves from the open van doors. Solar panels get direct sunlight beginning at 9:15 a.m. and it goes throughout the whole day. Site is level and could accommodate 2 camper vans and still leave some room for the local visitors. ZERO flying bugs, like NONE (in early March anyway).

Please don’t ruin this spot. It’s clean, so let’s please keep it that way.

This is my first novel find for iOverlander and I’m pretty proud of it. It is a great place. I stayed three days and three nights.

I had to hit up a hardware store and was looking for a place to park for the night, the parking lot behind Bombshells is massive. Pulled up, no issues and there is a security guard on patrol here. Bombshells is a sports bar, food is alright but a bunch of tvs to watch some games.

Showers with curtains where the toilets and changing rooms are. The water is not too cold. Just be aware that the parking closes at 6pm.

Nice guesthouse in the Volcanoes area. The place is new, spacious, clean, and nicely decorated. Hot showers and flush toilet. The owner is Salus (+250788468286). He is a guide in the area, and he did everything to make us feel at home. We paid 50.000 for a double room, including breakfast. They have two other rooms, one is more like a family unit. There is a shared terrace and living room for the guests. Secure parking. We cooked next to our car. But we could also place our stove on the terrace or living room if we wanted to. So, all in all, it felt more like an apartment than a room in a hotel (also because we were the only guests).

We had a hard time finding a good campspot or affordable room in de proximity of the headquarters of Vulcanoes NP. As everything in this area is focused on the high-end tourist, ór a bit shabby. So this was a nice place. Its 15 minutes drive to the headquarters. We just showed up, Salus wasn't there at that moment. Better to call in advance, although somebody of the staff will be happy to help you. You can also book the room online, but it was more expensive. They did our laundry, washed our car, and made a packed breakfast for our hike. Really friendly and welcoming.

They have a bigger parkinglot next to the house: a walled area with gravel (see picture). Not a beautiful spot but big enough for a car (or 2) if you want to camp. Salus also said you can camp on the parking of his house or with a ground tent on a small piece of grass. But its a bit small. He really would like to welcome more visitors, so you are more than welcome. You can discuss an appropriate price for camping with him.

Directions: There isn't any sign. But if you come from the south, you take the last street right before the Tiloreza ecolodge. Then, it is the second building to the left (red gates).

The headquarters is the starting point of all the activities in Vulcanoes NP. You arrange your permit (75$ for Bisoke, pay by card) here. Whether you go hiking Bisoke or do a Gorilla tracking, you have to check in here at 7am in the morning. From here you still have to (self)drive towards starting point of your hike/track (30 minutes drive for Bisoke). You can't meet your guide at the starting point of the hike, even if you arranged everything in advance. You have to come here first to check in. Can take up to an hour untill you finally leave towards the starting point. Which all felt a bit pointless to us. At this time a (rapid) covid test (5$) is still necessary for hiking, a PCR test (50$) for the Gorillas (cash). Proof of vaccination is not enough.

6-8 hour return hike up and down the Vulcano with 1100 altitude meters. Tough hike, especially when muddy in rainy season. But a beautiful one. You do have a chance to see gorillas on this track. Hike is 75$ excluding tips and covid test. Important: The headquarters of Vulcanoes NP in Kinigi is the starting point of all the activities. You arrange your permit there (card payment) and a Covid test (cash). Whether you go hiking Bisoke or do a Gorilla tracking, you have to check in at the headquarters at 7am in the morning. From here you still have to (self)drive towards starting point of your hike (30 minutes drive for Bisoke). You can't meet your guide at the starting point of the hike, even if you arranged everything in advance. Everybody has to come to the HQ first to check in. Can take up to an hour until you finally leave towards the starting point. So the actual hike doesn't start before 8.30/ 9.00 AM. The whole proces felt a bit pointless and a waste of time, especially because the rangers didn't want to be too late at the summit because of the unpredictable weather in the area. But if you look beyond the bureaucracy, the hike is beautiful and worth it. At this time, a (rapid) covid test (5$) is still necessary for hiking Bisoke because of the Gorillas. Proof of vaccination is not enough.

Just a heads up: if you want to stay here because of the proximity to the headquarters of Volcanoes NP (where all the activities start), know that the direct route that Google maps is showing isn't drivable for cars. You have to drive all the way around via the main road.

If you don't have other option it's OK for one night. We stayed here one night because of mechanics problems.

Parking near football and kids playground. Barbecue, water, toilets free (but dirty at the moment). Lots of trash but sea view haha.
Near the mosque so you heard muezzin early in the morning and the road. But flat and near Rize sanayi if you have mechanic problems like us. They are making works at the moment so maybe it will be cleaner... Electricity available near toilets.

Villa Maguela was a home away from home!
Victor was kind, hilarious and so generous. The food was delicious and it was so lovely to eat around the table with the other guests.
He also has a puppy farm so puppy therapy is available…

Only border that has not been burned in the Titikaka area. Desaguadero and Copacabana are not an option. The road to Tilali was not blocked but I guess it can change pretty fast. Once you get to migration, everything is smooth and easy. No fees to exit Peru or enter Bolivia. Just follow the main dirt road to Puerto Acosta and do the Bolivian paperwork there. Be ready with cash and gas as there is nothing until Achacachi

Very nice campground. Laundry, heated bath houses, flush toilets, store on-site, etc…. Expensive compared to others but they deliver on the extra cost with great customer service and amenities. $63 / night w our AAA discount for complete hook-up site (water, electric and waste, cable internet) They have 2 fenced in dog parks (one for 20lb and under and a large dog park…great for the furry friends). Awesome access to the beach and a great 2.5 mile loop you can walk from the campground to the Bull River Beach (awesome beach…don’t let the River fool you…this is a really nice beach) that you can walk north along the beach where the river enters the Atlantic…at North Beach. Great beach bars and restaurants along the way…all w/in walking distance of the campground. Highly recommend this site!
