Excellent place to stay in Puno, they had already told us that it was dangerous so we went directly to this parking lot, for a long sprinter we payed 50 soles for two and a half days, we slept one night in the parking lot and everything was perfect

Same comments as below. Gilma is an amazing host with a beautiful home who is skilled in the art of balancing being friendly and approachable while still giving her guests privacy. Her garden and views from the common area are stunning, and we ended up spending more time enjoying camp than enjoying the towns, which are under construction at the moment. Great space to spread and do a long needed deep clean of our camper. 100% recommend and would love to come back some day.

Nice rec center! I was charged $5 for my shower, but still not bad at all. Private shower stalls. Water is HOT and no time limit as mentioned previously.

The hostel is invisible from outside, knock on the blue double door, someone will come. They are under construction and it might last for a while so it's more dirty and messy than usual. Inside is quite nice with beautiful with decorative plants and art. But it's very far from being luxurious, the shared toilets fall appart, the shower is dirty and the kitchen is as dirty as messy. The beds are on the floor like traditional Iranian bedrooms and is nice and clean.
They accept almost only travelers, you'll find here interesting people who speak English for the best price in town (8€ in building condition)

Yurt Camp with around 30 yurts. Best view over the Aral sea. The price for a night is euro 50,- per person including diner, lunch and breakfast. The staff is very nice and helpful.
From here you can also book Aral sea tours.
The yurts are large and clean and they also have dorm beds.
The view from the relax area is just fantastic and the sunrise over the sea beautiful.

All though all the water has to be carried in by the camp ,you can take a good (cold) shower and they supply you free drinking water on request.

I advise you to never drive on the beach. We got stuck and payed euro 1.500,- for a recovery which took 5 days. The recovery team had to come from Muynak.

Ther is a satellite phone +99 956914939. Booking in advanced is easiest via Aral Sea Discovery www.besqala.com

No wifi, no cellular coverage, all though Ucell was placing a cell tower during our stay. I do not know if it is activated and working.

This camp is much better then the Aral Plaza camp at the lake shore. On the beach you are sandblasted by the strong wind and the beach sand and there is no place in the shade other than in the restaurant.

This is a great spot with a beautiful view. The ranch owner came up to us and said this is actually a private ranch, it’s not public land. We didn’t see any no trespassing signs, but all of the sites on this side of the river should be marked as permanently closed.

Great overnight parking! I showed up and didn't ask for permission but had no problems. There are dedicated RV parking spots but they fill up quickly with Truckers. Level parking and quiet once the airport traffic dies down (early evening, so won't interrupt any sleep). Stayed multiple days with no problem!

@ Admin: Open again, as a matter of course.

Jandarma drive by a couple of times a day. No problem to camp at the access road.
In the shoulder seasons there is plenty of space (for a not too big rig), in the afternoons it usually fills up, until late.

There are some restaurants directly at the waterfront, all with mixed reviews.

A really good place! We stood here for almost a week and had no problems. Its surprisingly quiet at night. We left the car here and visited the city center with uber.
It gets pretty crowded at weekends but nobody bothered us.

quite enough spot. lots of birds. pretty cold at night being so close to the water. when the train came by the ground shifted like like an earthquake for probably a good 2 minutes. that was pretty surreal. decent cell signal and beautiful moonrise. plenty of room for more than one rig, but I'm glad I had it to myself other than an occasional visitor.

I'm not currently at the spot because it seems people in this part of Ontario follow the traditions of the American West and leave their trailers, head back home and then come back for the weekend. that's called a Rocky mountain summer home because it's unbelievably common in the Rocky mountain States. completely unfair but it's just what they do. so I went down the powerline road about maybe 3/4 of a mile and found a spot. I generally don't like the camp under power lines but they're they're not active. the road has a little bit of mud on it. in one spot I would name not passable without some pretty nice mud tires. decent enough cell service. I have LTE on mine.

Chicken shawarma entirely chicken inside but nice flavour with the garlic butter. Spinach pie for 5.50 was a nice vegatarian option, it had mint inside for an authentic Lebanese flavour.

There was a miscommunication with the waitress and they also made a veggie pie, we explained we didn't need it and the owner gave it to us for free. Also on the menu pizza, burger & meat plates - beer 2.50

Private beach with access to sea and a lagoon for swimming, entrance fee 500LRD weekday, 1000 weekend. They have a large carpark, it may be possible to camp if you speak to the right person.

The beach is clean and it's a nice relaxed place, gets busy from 4pm onwards. 33cl club beer 300 & I believe they do food in the evening but I didn't try it.

Square (20x20m), level gravel place next to the road. Little vegetation, that will block a single vehicle (<3.5t). In general big enough for trucks (<18t). Arrived at dawn and left shortly after sunrise. Only for recommended for a single night.

Traffic is moderate to low between 11pm and 7am. Expect some traffic noise.

Great stop when we needed it. Very large parking lot amongst many trucks. Of course road noise but as full time travelers it doesn’t bother us anymore. They do have an RV are but no more than 40 ft and back in spots so with a tow it doesn’t work.

Travel plaza is very nice and clean. We walked around and bought a couple lotto tickets for entertainment.

Kuwait -> Iraq
Crossed early in the morning. Followed the detailed instructions from a few comments back, except we got our Carnet stamped and DID NOT go to the office where you are supposed to pay the 'fee'. I translated the sign outside and it says for 'public and commercial vehicle's does not apply to us. Anyway, visa in Arrivals Hall ($78pp) and they were so friendly we asked of they'd kindly photocopy our stamped carnet, which they did.
The went to exit gate. They argued a bit that we had to go back to pay and get our departure card but we told them this is not for us, we are a private tourist vehicle. Eventually, a three-star officer intervened and said indeed 'this is not for you' and told the guy off. That's it. Done in under 1 hour. Argue and protest! We shouldn't pay any customs fee, that's why we have the Carnet!!

Definitely the wrong coordinates given. The area near this checkout is an absolute dump. Stay in town OR at the Ur carpark.

stayed here for two nights. Still 350 MXN per night for the van and two people (also if you don't need electricity or water plug in). we enjoyed our time here (freezer with ice cubes helped) had the best pizza here, although the pizza oven is not ready yet, but John promised me it will come this season.
the road here is in good condition, however, if you have a big trailer and only 2WD it can get difficult.

We stayed over a week here because we had to wait for spare parts and one of us also got sick. There is a mixed dorm with 8 beds and all the other rooms are private rooms with bathroom. You can cook in the kitchen and you can wash your laundry for 100 Som, which is super cheap. Everything is new, well maintained and clean. The dorm costs 600 Som and the private room 1600 Som.
There is roofed parking for motorcycles and bicycles. There would also fit probably 2 cars in the courtyard. The wifi is running in all the rooms and is good. The location is also good, close to the city center and some restaurants and coffee shops. We highly recommend this place!

Open again. Super quiet place to stay. Couple of vans and truck campers staying as well. Can hear the train going by. No services or trash. Fire rings all around the parking area and down by the river. Board set up with a sign posted for a 14 day limit on camping.
