McCarthey Boat Ramp is quiet and secluded. There is plenty of space for our 37' RV. A few Boaters came in and launched their boats of course but we had no issue. If you come in the right season you will be able to get all the blackberries you could fit in your rig.

Went to go camp out. Place is now open. $10/night. Unfortunately weather was terrible so decided to go elsewhere. No Verizon service. Looks like a nice place!

Lots and lots of camping all over the place here on free BLM land On both sides of the road, both before and after the Parowan gap petroglyph area which sports a seating area and a pit toilet. Good for any size rig. 4 LTE bars on Verizon. 14 day limit. Extremely clean sites - let’s keep it that way.

Free RV/camper parking in a municipal park. With electricity at each site! With a potable water spigot too! Hell yeah!!
Wish this was more common.
Yeah it’s a little loud during the day and early evening but it calms down later at night.
Bathrooms are locked at night.

the way down is not useable for cars. The rain washed away the road. But it's a nice place, albeit close to the road. Didn't stay here as I couldn't get the car down. Later I found a place to sleep on a mountain path.just before the village of Ulupinar

very nice place next to river 37.78835, 35.36361

Nice safe and quite spot on the side of Marshall’s. I guess it’s staff parking area so only a couple spots were taking but they left after the store closed. You could also stay at Walmart but there is a “no overnight” sign just for the west side of Walmart parking area.
If you have a bus or big RV you could park at the turn around spot SE of Marshall’s.
I did read online there is NO ordinance banning overnight parking in the city. So you’ll be fine!
Was going to originally park at the Cracker Barrel a mile down the road but had a hard time finding a flat spot

Really close to the river, nice large open area for up to 4 vehicles comfortably and a little fire pit that someone has left some wood at. Was super easy to find and only a minute drive off the highway. Noise from the highway isn’t too bad but being this close you do hear it.

Campsite along dry creek up FS Road 42 (follow signs to Rustler's Park), past private property and organized campgrounds. Two turnouts here; room enough for a few small vans/campers. Rigs bigger than 41 feet are prohibited on the roads coming in, so not suitable for long-medium or big rigs. No cell service, or other services.

Place tranquille.

9/10 Welcome Center
It's not right on the highway, it's surrounded by nice mountains. it appears to be staffed with a security guy 24 hours even on the weekend. The restrooms are clean. The vending is the best I've seen in any rest area. they have free Keurig (I don't drink coffee) facilities are clean. truck parking is reasonably far from car parking. plenty of spaces. super nice spot to overnight.

Google maps directed me almost to the entrance and then told me to take the i-26 West on-ramp... Don't do this ...stay to the right

Of the main road, some small local gardening, with small houses. Talk to one of them if there is one around and you can camp there. Is very quiet.

this location has a "no overnight parking" sign, but camping is okay with permission. 6 campers were parked out in the NE corner. has a McDonald's inside and in a plaza with many great shops.

Nice large spot in a grove of junipers just below a little hill. If you walk up a path to the top of the rise, you can get AT&T 3-4 bars LTE with 60 download and 1 upload, plus a fantastic view. Site is big enough for multiple vehicles. Tent spots possible on the rise. Roads to get here extremely washboardy.

Nice place at the lake side. Came here as an alternative to sleeping at the aqua calientes, where they asked 50Q to sleep next to the road and had quite some begging kids and pushy sellers..
The place suffers from the pandemic and its quite sad to see it so deserted. We were alone on Sunday afternoon..

Paid 80Q for the night for 2p and 2 kids, probably could have negotiated it down, but we feel now is not the time to do so.

Public showers available for $5. Non-timed. Pay at the Registration/General Store with card or cash.
Clean. Hot water comes first before cold water the way the shower taps are setup (just in case it confuses you and makes you think there is no hot water).
Entrance to the shower rooms are beside the swimming pool, located behind the Deli building (right beside registration building)

The previous description of this campground does not match what we’re seeing when we are here. This is a nice BLM campground right on the north fork of the John Day River. The spots have picnic tables fire pits and there was a pit toilet. There are no trash cans. The elevation he has listed is incorrect. We are at 1800 feet above sea level. There is no AT&T and Verizon cell service here. All that said this is very nice little campground with five camp spots right on the river. We are here on a Sunday night in May and no one else is here. We recommend this campsite. This campground could support medium sized rigs we are in a truck camper but a trailer or a class c could get down in here very easily.

This county run RV park is just off downtown John Day. You can either have full hook ups or you can dry camp. Full hook ups were $30 a night dry camping was $15 a night. You have access to a bathroom with showers. The camp is right by the John Day river and you can walk downtown to shops and restaurants. The cell service was good for both Verizon and AT&T and all size rigs can be accommodated. Enjoy
