Entrance off Hwy 24, not Hwy 12. Plenty of RV's camped here. Great wifi on Verizon, 50 down/12 up. Quiet, beautiful views, about 13 miles from Capital Reef NP.

Took us about 2 hours total.

They do not accept covid vaccination only PCR test! We got ours back in Guatemala and the nurse accepted them (72 hours). Make sure to print out copies because they will send you back to El Salvador if you don’t have a hard copy.

A small’ish, clean, well maintained rest area with free dump, restrooms, trash cans, pick mic tables, and overnight parking. We stayed on a Sunday night. Definitely some truck sounds in the lot. And traffic sounds from the highway- though the highway is not a busy interstate. Highway traffic sounds were not bothersome. If the sound of semi trucks will keep you awake at night, this may not be the place for you. But if you can live with that sound, this is a clean, safe, well lit place to spend the night. At least there were a couple trucks when we stayed.

This is one of the saddest and yet the sweetest little forest service campgrounds I’ve ever been in. Five campsites along the river, and two up above near the road that are hard to tell how you can even get to them. It’s sort of falling apart, but it’s such a sweet little green leafy oasis in the middle of a big burn.
The road is paved to the site, and each of the campsites could accommodate a smaller travel trailer. Picnic table and fire ring at each site. Vault toilets. No water. Pack it in, pack it out.
I spent a delightful night here listening to the water, and even panned a couple of tiny gold flakes with my dinner plate.
No connectivity whatsoever!
Also, didn’t run into any poison oak.

Super sketch. No water to rinse, opening is surrounded by dried feces, latch doesn't open all the way or with the foot pedal. Go somewhere else.

Awesome views, we ended up at this exact spot, a couple long term residents and vans / rvs coming and going all night from other spots, there were about 8 rigs here when we left but very comfortable. This is a meca of overnighters off this road - least a couple hundred. Super close to the park

This is an Airbnb in Raton. The home is being renovated and uninhabitable, and the hostess welcomes primitive campers at the rate of $10/night (+fees, I paid $25 for two nights). There's a ~12' square covered gazebo with trellis walls for primitive camping, and plenty of driveway around the house to park an RV. There's an outdoor 15a outlet that was fine to hookup an RV, and no running water or tank dumping. To put it gently, the neighborhood is prime for gentrification. I parked behind the house, out of site and mind, and the neighborhood is quiet. Downtown Raton is about a half mile away.

This is actually NM State Trust land, and recreational camping is not permitted on it. I'm not saying you will be bothered here, but it's not technically legal. You must have a NM Hunting license and actually be hunting to camp on NM State Trust land.

Grassy ground; nice view but poor open air banjos. You can rent nice looking hats. But don't know the prices. For motorhome it is 20k ppn. You can buy dribks and snacks at the kiosk and walk along the beach to the volcan. It was closed but at the beach there is mud enough for fun.
