Small campsite right off of the Carretera Austral between Cochrane and Yungay/Tortel. Two covered shelters with a picnic table and room for a tent. The rest of the ground is quite bumpy, so I’m not sure if it would be worth it to camp outside of the shelters. One toilet, one shower (with hot water), and a large sink for dishes. No wifi, but we have decent 3G signal with Claro. No electricity, but the owner will let you charge items at their house on the property. It has really great views of the river flowing through the valley with mountains in the background! The owner Danitzia studied tourism and has LOTS of knowledge about the entire Carretera Austral, complete with several maps and great recommendations for your trip.

This is honestly the best food I’ve had in mexico. We went here for breakfast and everything was so inexpensive and the portions were huge! I could eat here everyday, do yourself a favor and grab breakfast or lunch here if you’re around the area!

It was easy to find a place to park on Lic. Justo Mendoza street even on weekend (we were there on friday). Busy area during daytime. At night, lots of cars passing by, few pedestrians; quiet after all. Walkable distance from historic center. Not sure if it would be safe to stay there many days. Good for one night.

nice view over dead sea, beach access, quiet at night. no police or coastguard visited. 4G with STC.
to get there: leave from the mainroad at the "two watertanks" and take the left road down. plenty of space.

Great spot right on the beach. There is a small gravel road on which you can park. Some locals came to swim, but overall very quiet. During the night only sounds of the wind.

Holy smokes, this is the noisiest spot ever! At least it was easy to get a big rig in late at night. No other trucks here (no wonder!)

Only accessible on foot via a short but steep and sweaty climb, but the views are phenomenal. From the mushroom farm it's about a 7km cycle/drive down a bumpy dirt road to the hike. Follow the tracks on google maps to "Chisom distributors" then leave your bike around here (cars you will have to leave a bit further back down the track) and ask the local families to point you towards the small path up.
I wish I'd had a small gift as thanks, although they didn't ask for anything in return for their help.
There's loads of relatively flat ground up top, so if you can get a tent up there it's probably one of the best wild camping spots in Africa.

Sleep spot before crossing the border to Costa Rica. Very welcoming place and owner. We paid 7 dollars to spend the night in our rv. I recommend the place

It's definitely forbidden to camp here, signs everywhere (fotos added). Same everywhere around the lake.

We spent the night there though cause we arrived really late and were a bit desperate. At night there was only one other campervan but quite a few young people. Night was quiet and beautiful.
In the morning it started to get reeeally crowed and when we left at 11.30am there were around 25 cars parking everywhere cause indeed it's the public parking spot to get to the beach.

A very nice, but difficult hike: 4km and 1100m in elevation (one way). Relatively steep, with some deep sandy parts. The last 1km is more strenuous with a lot of loose rocks. But it is totally worth it to keep going, the view at the top is absolutely amazing. It took us 2h30 going up, 1h30 down. I’d suggest long pants: the bushes are very prickly going up.

Still free, nice big camp ground at the lake. No facilities. We had a good night here (and left the car here to do the Cerro Falkner hike). We found great wind shelter behind some trees.

The only downside: all the bushes turned into toilets, with toilet paper all around.

Price is now 2400pp (high season). The spots are very very nice: right at the lakefront with a beautiful view. Each spot has its own table and fire pit. Basic facilities with semi-warm showers. No WiFi, no cell service.

Big open plain with mushroom termite mounds, nice spot for the night out of Bissau as the road was taking longer than we thought! Probably don’t need 4x4 and fine for big rigs

If you keep going there’s a hotel at the end of the road (didn’t go in, just noted it for security)

Don’t know why it’s been marked as closed

I think a lot has changed in 3 years! Very overgrown and narrow and the road is tilted like one half of it fell away during wet season. It’s not undoable but not ideal. The clearings are also overgrown so can’t really get out and move around much when parked! Branches were low for us (we are 3.2m), we had to cut one down.
