It's not a slow car, it's a fast house

This has become a tourist attraction. There were four tour buses there on a Thursday. Not sure about camping. New fences and parking area defined. Brand new whisky bar and souvenir shop. Large dining room restaurant with great price on all you can eat lamb or trout. Sled dog thing around back, but not open at the moment.
There’s a lot going on here. Watch for changes and post what you find.

This would be difficult to use. Most of this parking area has been closed off. Barricaded and under construction. Maybe a very small rig could fit, but you would never be alone.

Very beautiful and windy. Almost nobody here, we spent 2 nights. The police drove by multiple time both nights and were very friendly but also annoyingly shining their bright light in our van. Woke us up a couple of times. Otherwise felt very safe.

Nice spot front of the lake. Lots of tabanos (normal in January..). Few family came and leave. Few dogs during the night. Some comings and goings during of car during the night that were going to the camping I guess. But anyway I was at peace most of the time. Recommend if you want Wildcamp (possible easily with van also).

went here to do the permit but they sent me back to the border. direct at the border there is another police building with flags in front. the policeman explained to me that the paper is mandatory and I could either get a permit for the area of Santa Cruz for 50 or for all Bolivia for 100. seems to be more of a regional thing that they want to see it at the control points so probably the one for Santa Cruz would be enough but I got the one for whole Bolivia and the next check point was super fast and easy. didn't get any further yet but I prefer this over arguing even with the doubt of that paper being legit.

Good place on the side of town. Easy to walk to town and close to the beach. We stayed here with a lot of other campervans.

No place for tents!

Little cafeterias, with all you want (tea, coffee, cold drinks…). I slept in the first cafeteria (going to the south, right side) run by Agar, a lovely Ethiopian woman (and her 4yo son). Beds available. Toilets.

Real deal. Exit is right at marker km84. Google maps from iOverlander puts you too far south. After descending the hill head all the way left to the last spot with a pile of pink scallop shells at the back. Killer view. Worth the mesquite scratches? That’s up to you. Probably 10 or more spots. Was one other van there when we were there.

Great gas station to sleep in! Super equiped, perfect to park with your motorhome. The staff is super friendly and generous. They have a convenience store that’s open until 10 pm and the bathrooms are great. Super clean and near, with hot showers and very tidy. There’s a small place on the left where they make very good sandwiches that don’t cost much. It was a calm night and we felt super secure.

almost everything north of Spence hot springs is buried under a few feet of snow. you can chance it and camp in “day-use only” spots like picnic areas and trailheads but that’s up to you.

between Santa Fe and the hot springs there’s basically nowhere dry to camp for free. i had to head up to Cuba for a good spot with service.

very tricky to camp near the hot springs in winter!

Met a couple who had to pay 1.5 Mio for not having a license. They chased me down as soon as they saw me passing by further North. Showed them a copy of my international license. They brought me to the police station and showed me a lot of paperwork about driving safely - - as if we would be the ones who drive like maniacs. Showed them the original license and they let me go.

I guess they especially go for bikers with bags as there were many foreigners on local bikes without bags.

This place is magical! Definitely a must see in Angola. You can easily spent some days. We saw only one car during our 3 days. Just be careful on scorpions we saw one, and if it's raining better to not sleep in the middle but on the top of a hills. It's sandy but not too much. Easily doable with a 4x4.
Very nice place to do some pictures. Enjoy!

Place for gas, water, grocery restaurant and open area for camping dessert and mountain water available in every farm. You will find it in towers and waterline underneath it free and you can’t ask for help from anybody.

Whole camp reportedly fully booked for the year by someone but they said at Twee Rivieren reception that I could pay for the “overflow” site and if any of the campsites were unoccupied at gate close then I could take that. I did that and managed to stay at campsite 2. Lovely and quiet with great sunset. Friendly jackal came to visit. Nice outdoor shower with ok pressure. Heard a lion “contact calling” early evening. Sounds of spotted eagle owl and barn owl. Besides the booking uncertainties I will visit again.
