Very clean Pilot truck stop. Stopped for a night while going through Grand Junction… Gas was cheaper here than Loves restrooms and store were super clean.

Ontario power old service road. Established fire pit onsite. Good amount of space for one rig would be a challenge with a trailer but doable.

One of the nicer spots I could find between the Kamgab and Road to Hell trails. Great of you're doing the SAND bikepacking route. There's a reasonably big sandy bank a few meters from the river. There were also some grassy patches, but they were wet when I was here.

Note that there's also a pristine spot just a few meters downstream (north west) that probably doesn't count as the official campsite. I came by bicycle, ou won't be able to get a car there but you can easily walk there if you have stand alone tents and other gear.

Good hotel to rest. The rooms are spacious and quite modern. S/50 for the matrimonial room with private shower. Clean and secure. We stored our bikes in the entrance hall next to reception.

We were recommended this garage by Autotech in Burundi. It’s in a new location in the south east of Kigali with a really huge layout copied from garages in Germany. This place is really professional and a lot of diplomatic cars were in the yard. We changed our rear breaks as they didn’t have the right parts in Bujumbura. We also changed our front right bearings as we finally found an original spare part after driving with a “temporary” solution since Ivory Coast.

Crossing from Rwanda to Uganda

Arriving at the border post we first went into a little hut to get written in some book. Afterwards we went to the main building. There were two guys approaching the car right after we parked and said we had to give them our vehicle document and drivers license as they are customs officers. They aren’t and don’t hand out your documents and you don’t need any help as everything is straight forward.

There’s a scanner in front of the door where you have to scan all the bags in your car. We showed the officer how much stuff was in our car so we just had to scan one suitcase and two backpacks. In the building immigration on both sides was really fast as we had an East Africa visa. The Ugandan officer actually was on his phone and didn’t speak a single word to us, just a look in the passport and stamp.
The Rwandan customs just stamped out our Carnet. The Ugandan customs didn’t know how to fill in a Carnet and wanted to rip out the whole page and in the end he wanted to stamp also the exit part. We managed to get him to only stamp on the entry part, although he really only stamped it and didn’t fill out the information, guess I’ll have to do that myself before leaving Uganda. We were already leaving when we were reminded to pay for the road tax and sent back to the customs, so just tell him that your car is outside the EAC as he assumed ours was Rwandan. He will give you a paper for the bank where you have to pay 231.000 UGX plus 2.000 UGX bank fees. We exchanged USD at the exchange beauraus just outside the building. When we wanted to leave for the first time a man came to change money and we exchanged our last 10.000 Rwandan franc, he gave me 10.000 Shilling and just started walking away. Don’t change with the guys at your car. Just go to the exchange beareaus and they will give you the same rate for Rwandan Francs and don’t cheat you. For USD we had to negotiate, we had 62$ and he wanted to give us 3650 for the 50$ and 3600 for the rest even though on his own sign there were different amounts. We asked at another beaurau and they gave us 3700 for all bills, so ask around and get a better rate.

Actually a nice big parking space away from the road. But it seems to be used as a rubbish dump by farmers. There are a number of bones, hides and a whole horse that is slowly drying out. We drove all the way to the back because it was too late to find another place. However, the smell of decay came through the windows for a short time. It is better to avoid this place.

Rangers here are not very friendly...
We didn't know that we had to hike only with a guide from 1th of may for most of the interessant trails... And we had to find one in Puerto Natales, that is very far!

Moreover, the price is very expensive! 31k pp. OK it's nice, but it's not US parks wher you pay 80 USD for 1 year for ALL the parks and all car occupants...
And impossible to stay ivernight in the park! We had to go in a campground (not free of course)...
So we didn't do it.
Wifi doen't work all the time as well...

We passed through this checkpoint from La Paz, got out and showed I.D to the police. They were very kind. About 1km up the road is the peaje where we paid 10BOB to Santa Cruz.

Gas directly to the tank at local price, but only after saying sin factura. OK place to sleep, Toilets 24/7, cold refreshing shower. a bit muddy where they will send you to sleep but nothing too bad.

The one outhouse is pretty nasty, I wouldn’t go #2 in there.
Otherwise spent one night here with no issues. Rode my bike around the trails.

What an absolute gem of a spot. Gorgeous setting. Very nice camp host. Good spaces between campers. Can’t beat $20 these days for a camp spot.

This campground is very easy to get to and big rig friendly.

Many comments say this is an easy dump. That may be true for Vans and small Motorhomes, but is going to be a PITA for anyone trailering. The dump location is about 2 car lengths from the dumpster, so you will not be able to pull alongside the dump as usual. Then, the fresh water is at the building, so you will have to turn around the other way and come alongside the building. Depending on how busy the station is, it is likely that you will have to exit the station entirely and return in the back entrance to get water. So yeah, it is free, but a cluster for trailers. Very poorly thought out design. For trailers, just spend the $5 and go to Farm & City Feed.
