Good place for a night. Can be seen from some streches of the road a bit further away but not if its dark and and you have curtains up while lights on. No Claro or Movistar reception. There are even flamingos in the lake!

There 6 spots or so here with full hook ups. Pay $20 at the city hall, there is a drop box.

Stayed here one night. We could have stayed at the waterfall, it felt safe there, but preferred here because we needed 4g signal to work. There was also another overlander staying at this square. Quiet and safe.

Asked for 10 pppn to stay in our van and finally arranged for 8pppn. The place is really nice and has everything you need (electricity, wifi, water, bathroom, kitchen, surfboards, etc.).
The owner and people working there are also very nice and willing to help with anything you need.

We were on a 6m long van and it was ok. Longer vans should have no problem. Bigger than that, it could be tricky.

Seems to be a great place this hostel, but as with everything, people make the difference. We were unlucky and the guy over there was rude and unwilling to help. Hope it is only momentary.
Stayed one night (it was late) and ran away from there.

Other than that, Guanico is a lovely place to chill and surf. You can stay elsewhere without needing to pay, we just needed electricity and wifi.

A second option for the Palgrave Forest and Wildlife area. This one is on Duffy Lane, much quieter than on Hwy 50. Parking Lot emptied before darkness and filled up again from 8.30 am (public holiday).
Night was super quiet, no street noise, just the forest and some train horns far away. No toilet as compared to the one on Hwy 50.

We stayed here almost for a week. Great place, quiet, safe, free, right in front of the beach.

Parking along the road, no « no overnight ». You have beach at two minutes. You also have a park for kids in front the lac. We stayed one night and it was quiet the night. Water and bathrooms at the beach !

A very good look out over the sea and the islands. You can drive up with the car. It goes steep up

When coming from the south, note that most gas stations only have diesel, this one also had gas. The last possibility to fill up for us was in Inhambane/Vilankulo. Accept credit card. Just a few miles out of the way if heading towards the border Zimbabwe or Malawi (via recommended route Dombé.

Location is a little south from here, just on the other side of the main intersection in town. However, the pumps are all wrapped in plastic, it obviously is not operational. Not sure if this is for maintenance or if they are dismantling it permanently. No other gas station in town, also the gas station south at the Rio Save bridge (currently?) had no gas, only diesel. Indeed along that route we mostly saw big trucks and busses, therefore gas might not be in high demand. Just something to keep that in mind if you run on gas. Plenty of diesel everywhere though. We didn't expect this and were running low.

Biggest concern appears to be the condition of the road, countless 20-30cm deep potholes too big to avoid along the N1. So be prepared for some serious on-roading (as opposed to off-roadring. No 4x4 needed, just good clearance, strong axles and patience to travel at below 30km/h. The recommended route to go to Zimbabwe or Malawi is via Dombé, Chimoio (and Tete for Malawi).

Beautiful and well maintained spot right at the beach, as described. Good place to rest and enjoy for a while. They charged us 500M pppn. You can walk along the beach 2min, just 2 doors down to the very decent Brisa Mar restaurant/bar.

Small gravel parking lot located in a park / disc golf course. There are no signs restricting overnight parking. There are trash cans and the area remains lit up at night from nearby lighting. Quiet place for one night. Decent reception as well.

Hm, cozy?! Hm, very good?! We are not sure. In our opinion it is a typical fast food restaurant and we are always looking for nice restaurants to sit there in and out with fresh made and healthy meals. We were looking forward as we read it and were dissappointed. Sorry. One of these comments which everybody have to do his own opinion.

American Land & Leisure campground. 25 sites I believe, pit toilets, water but not RV water. primative sites. nice views of lake Granby and surrounding countryside. $29/night which seems a little steep. there's also a land pass that you'll need to do recreational activities in this area. $30 annual, $20/7 day, $10/3 day, 5/1 day.

Entering Cameroon: They do a passavant, but takes a lot of time and they want your exact itinerary. It was my first time with passavant, cause my Carnet expired so was happy to receive. They asked 20.000, I told it was for free, they showed other tip’s with receipts so I agreed. Then eventually they gave it for free, they just wanted to win the argument ;)

No customs here coming from Congo, so they don’t do passavants. They told me its no problem as I have Congo exit stamp, and let me go. At every gendarmerie checkpoint I had long convo’s and eventually just before reaching Gamba, they wouldnt let me pass unless I bribe them. So I went back and stamped my Carnet (that was almost expired) and had little time left in Gabon. Insist on a passavant (they do make them for exit) or continue to nearest customs office in Mouila to get one!

Quiet camping spot next to the river and football field. Entrance closed by fences. Guess only cyclists can go through them.

Just police checkpoint when I passed, want to see your passport and Carnet/passavant but don’t stamp. All is done in DGDI office in Ndende.

Lots of travellers staying overnight despite the signs. wait till later in the evening and get a feel for the place

Great well run campsite. We'll maintained. Clean bathrooms. Great hotsprings just a few 100 metres away.

This place has public showers for $7, unlimited time. When under filters I search for showers, but not laundry, this place won't show up. That's why it's important to add it to the showers filter search as well.
