Unfortunately this place looks more like a landfill than a camp spot when we arrived. We’re no strangers to trash around, but this was beyond wanting to stay. If it’s cleaned up it would be a great place to stay.

A beautiful, clean, small beach in Pizota, perfect for beach camping (without a vehicle)

In an unlikely situation, there are bathrooms, trash cans, picnic table, outdoor shower, outdoor sink/ kitchen area in the shade.

Odd things to find accessible to the public on a remote beach in Mexico!

Vallarta Adventures has created these facilities to accommodate the tourists they bring over by boat twice a week from 11am to 130pm for lunch, as a part of a tour of small remote beached in the area.

The rest of the time it is left for the use of locals & tourists to use with care & respect.

People respectfully spending the night are welcome.

The town of Pizota has less than 100 people, only 3 of them from outside of Mexico. everyone knows each other & they will take notice if you leave trash/ messes or otherwise behave poorly. But most locals are friendly, curious & welcoming.

There were frequent horses carrying supplies & such across the beach, families spending a day together, a few couples, a few travelers...

There were lots of dogs, all off leash, mostly residents of the town. A traveling couple had 2 dogs with them who played freely in the surf. I witnessed no aggressive behavior nor fights.

there is a small tienda with basic supplies around the corner towards the pier.  There is sometimes a "restaurant" on the patio of a house near the tienda. We were told the woman was on vacation", so no restaurant for us.
No vendors, except the small market.
friendly people. Safe community. One of the last places this idyllic!

We arrived by Water Taxi from Yelapa (50 pesos each/2.50us). You can also get there by private boat (we were quoted $50us). I hear there is a road that takes you to one side of the village, but after that you have to walk your stuff through the hilly village through unclear paths, down to the beach.

Perhaps you can find someone with an ATV or a mule/ horse, or a human to help you carry your supplies in? We hired someone at the pier to help us.

If this is in your wheelhouse to do.... do not miss this place!

Stayed at this free campground for a night. We got there about 23:00 at night and there were still a lot of people up, but they were all quiet and we slept well! The free hot morning shower was AMAZING (first hot shower in 8 days). Great place, would highly recommend!

Biked there from Karbala. At the checkpoint I was stopped, some discussion ensued, then they assigned me a free police escort to the fort. Not sure if because I was on a motorcycle or because I was a girl alone or both. They did say the area is still dangerous. Police came with me to the fort, but the caretaker showed me around (included in the ticket price) even though he didn't really speak English. Really stunning and massive fort, do recommend visiting for anyone in the area.

Stayed overnight a few times the past couple weeks, no one bothered me. I parked in area closest to Popeyes. Popeyes & Fuddruckers currently closed. This truck stop is less crowded than the nearby Loves.

great hike to cerro penitentes, you should have some hiking experience to do it as it's quite steep in parts... 6 km and 600 m altitude to the refugio, where one (or maybe two people) can sleep inside or you can camp outside of course ... 4 more km and 1150 m to the top... fantastic 360° view!

little stone refuge next to the river, very small and more like an emergency shelter, but well made, no wind in there... a few options to camp around the refuge, you can drink the water from the river (the hike from here up to cerro penitentes takes 3 - 4 hours, steep, rocky path)

This is definitely intended for folks with no other options and next time we’d definitely try to find another option to avoid taking advantage. You check in and they put your name on a list. There’s only one shower set up, so you wait in line for your turn. However, it was a good experience and the people there were nice.

I think if the pool is open you could pay to swim and use the shower in the pool locker room as well.
