We enjoyed a very nice evening. It is not really a Campground, more like camping in the backyard of friends. You have everything a Overlander can dream of and the family is very nice. The price is voluntary.

Very friendly staff. There is pretty fast wifi at the "reception" container.
Exposed to the wind, almost no sheltered spots. Unless you're in a tent, you can hide it in the half-moon walls they constructed for that.
Ah yes...it's free.

Quiet stay for a Saturday night. The tent camping area is really nice, but there is no shade for vehicles, so by 9am is was hot, hot, hot. Bathrooms are pretty dirty, but functional. Wifi you need to ask them to put on, I think it’s a hotspot, so we only had it for about an hour. The hike is a slippery dissent about 10 minutes to the river, suggest wearing shoes and bringing bug spray. Family was really friendly, and a guide takes you down to the river/waterfalls. $3pp still.

A Perfect spot by the Beach. We stayed longer than exoected. Great camping On the grass in a palm grove, yet right on the Beach. Restaurant with wifi nearby, a laundry that brings you your cleaned clothes right to the beach and you can take lukewarm showers for 15 pesos and use toilets for 5 pesos, restrooms are located at the back. The Beach gets fully packed at the weekends though.

Didnt see anything at that location. Maybe we missed it. But if you are a bit short in fuel to get to Angola, there is 2 Total station in Matadi (cant miss them, they are on main road). Not cheap though, 2850 FC for diesel, but for a few liters just to get trough, its fine. You can pay with dollars of course.

All as said before.
It is is really windy think about not staying here. No place gives you a wind protected place.

But if you are here, the view is really great. And they have very good water

Price we paid is 270 N$ pppn

They ask 50k (25 $) for a "Jeep" 4x4. But on their official list, a "voiture" (car) is 25K. Next step is "camionette" (van/ little truck) and "bus". "4x4" never appears on their list and to us, it is a regular car. We finally paid 25 k after a pleasant discussion, they were friendly.
We dont think there is any point of avoiding this border road tax because they will ask you to pay in Lufu or Noqui if you dont have the receipt given here... And in Lufu, there was a lot more officials hanging around, it seemed more complicated to negotiate down the price over there.
The road was easy even in rain saison. Not sure 4x4 is needed (maybe for one or two sections) but its quite a maze (lots of tracks going everywhere). You need to go to Muanda and then you go to Boma. Dont follow the main road on Maps.Me, follow the tracks in use and ask locals for the direction of Muanda.

"Tar road" starts exactly here. Still a lot of pot holes for about 30 km and then its really good. Road in Muanda is garbage, very bumpy, until this point.

Infinia at ARS 210,00. No Ultra 1500 (Diesel) here. If you want Ultra, head 15km further to 24 de Noviembre. Check the YPF marking in iOverlander there.

We agreed with the receptionist for 10 dollars and we could sleep in our car. But later, while we were eating in the restaurant, she came to us and said that the manager was now asking for 20 $... We declined, had to wait for the director of the hotel how was really pissed at us for refusing to pay extra. We finally talked to him and agreed that 10 $ was enough but we were really pissed of and tired of the situation. It was getting very late (9pm) and there was no way we could find another place if we couldnt find an agreement.
The restaurant is overpriced and the food is not great at all (frozen fish). The hotel by itself is very old, early 90's probably. Rooms are definetly overpriced too, even for african standards (50$).

10$ is already too much money but if they start asking 20$ to overlanders, we definetly dont recommend the place.

Not a big supermarket, but fair prices, specially if you're coming for Chile (ouch!). There's also a bigger La Anonima at 24 de Noviembre, which is way bigger and just 15km away.

Loreto native and certified guide, Byron Davis, provides incredibly insightful walking tours of his beloved city. You'll learn about the region's culture, history, natural beauty, art and get great tips on where to eat, shop & visit while in Loreto.
During our private tour ($35-40 USD per person) we ran into Byron's family members, lucked out with a chance to meet the Governor & Mayor, and got some great pictures of the town, waterfront, murals and more.

For all those who (like us) are on the wrong side of the highway (=coming from Oruro): there also is a gravel road coming from Oruro. You can park a few 100m from the road, but are still visible. Good for one night.
Otherwise you can make a u-turn in the next village.

Still there, still works but only dollars available. The button to "confirm" is broken, you have to use the one just above to confirm. Ask the security guard how it works if you are not sure.
Be careful, the amount of the fee is not communicated. Its huge. We paid 10 $ when we took 200 $... Saw that later...
