Wonderful stay. We had a great half day fishing trip with Deon, and caught (and released) a big tiger fish. The amenities are great, loved sitting out at our camp looking out to the river. Highly recommend.

Highly Corrupted Police. We do everything right. But they find us, but can’t tell us exactly for what. They didn’t even interested in our papers, they want only Money. No Recipe.
We must follow them to the police station.

But now I have the private Phonnumber and the name of the police chief. I hope I can report him on a official side. And the corruption will end soon.

Grassy area with 2 lakes where you can swim in. Ground is pretty leveled and it was super quiet during the night. You have to cross a bridge to get here that was a bit narrow so definitely keep that in mind. Lot’s of mosquitoes when the sun sets but other than that super nice because it cools down at night. We didn’t have to pay anything here (nobody was there) just at the entrance of the national park.

One of the best spot we have been so far after three weeks in eastern Canada. Nice view and very quiet. A few guys fishing when we arrived at 7PM, but left with the night. 1 or 2 cars came during the evening, with solo drivers chilling in their cars.
Pit toilets still in use.

Una noche aquí. Pensé que el movimiento y ruido iba a ser mayor pero estuvo bastante tranquilo a pesar de que era sábado.

I spent one night here, everything was ok. I thought that because it was Saturday night it would be noisier but was quiet at night

Great place to stay the night. Free! Posted 7 day limit, portapotties (pretty gnarly) and trash cans available. 1 bar T-Mobile depending on where I parked. Some local kids were playing music and riding four wheelers but gone by dark. Quiet night on the lake and took a morning swim. Would recommend.

It' s a pousada with a big space with trees and shadows. It allows tents and camper. There are toilets and kitchet available. In the main building there is a swimming pool. The place is very next to the sea (little acess). The place is very quiet and noiseless, perfect to rest, study or work. Petfriendly.

Simply good! We were here for 3 days. A little paradise. At 35 degrees in the shade, our camper stands in the shade under large trees all day. Friendly operators. Wonderful cooling off in the dammed stream. Decent sanitary facilities. 15 reales per person.

Unfortunately the hotel was full when we came so they refused to let us sleep in the main lot, inside the premises of the hotel. Instead we were directed on the outside, right between the hotel wall and the main road. Night was not quite at all, no wifi, no pool access. The upside is that the lot is apparently guarded and our night was free.

I entered here from Saudi to Jordan hitchhiking. A few notes that might be useful to others:
-it's quite a remote border crossing, with only few cars crossing (perhaps 1 every 5-10 minutes), many of them being taxis. The first real city on the Jordanian side is Ma'an, 130km away.
-on the Saudi side there is a petrol station with a good store. On the Jordanian side there are sim card and grocery shops
-as often in the region, you can't cross walking. So you need to find a car BEFORE entering the border area. Close to the petrol station is a good place.
-and FYI, taxis (apparently can be shared taxis) were asking high prices for the trip: 300-400sar just for to cross the border (few km), and 600-1000sar from Tabuk to Ma'an.

Stayed here for two nights, two persons with rooftop tent. Bit of a bumpy ride to get there. W we sAmazing and quiet place, very well kept and really nice groundskeeper. Two lovely dogs and fresh produce in the garden which we were allowed to use. Nice kitchen area with all the essentials, showers were lukewarm at best but not a problem due to the outside temperature. Very peaceful, lots of wildlife & highly recommended!

We spent two nights here enjoying the gracious hospitality of Don Jose, Dońa Matilde and Inty. The streets in this part of Otavalo are steep but we had no problem on the cobbles. The camping area is as described with easy access to 110 volt power, water and heated shower. No height restriction, although a couple of branches hang low across the driveway. We enjoyed the indoor common area with its great view and solid wifi (make sure to connect to the “Cafe” network). On the advice of Jose we did a self-guided walking tour of El Lechero, Parque del Cóndor and Cascadas Peguche (all on iOverlander and Google Maps) which was a great way to see some of rural Ecuador. Jose is a font of knowledge and local history, his family dating back into the mists of time in this area. We spent an evening around the fireplace with the family and another expat resident, which was a wonderful opportunity to learn about Kichwa life in Ecuador. We highly recommend this overlander destination as a great place to see Otavalo and environs! $5 pp to camp, they also have rooms ($13 pp) in the hostel and apartments for rent.

This experience was so magical that I almost hesitate to share it. Not sure why it doesn’t have more reviews, it was one of my all time favorites in Ecuador. The hotel by the road is the original location. But during the pandemic, the owners built a new cabin at the base of the Reventador Volcano. A few miles of 4x4 gravel road lead you up there, where you can spend the night watching the volcano erupt under a million clear stars. It’s out of this world! I showed up without a reservation and they had a spot for me, but you could probably book ahead too.

The price to stay in the cabin, including 3 meals and a hike onto the lava flow is $90. For what you get, this is pretty fabulous. Dinner was a whole fish in an Amazonian leaf, the other meals were good too. I think you can also ask to come up and camp, but don’t know what they are charging for this.

For me on a heavy moto, this road was challenging. It’s extremely steep, maybe the steepest road I’ve ridden, and loose volcano gravel. The way up was hard for my moto, the way down was terrifying for me. But also a huge highlight of the trip. The cabin price includes a trip in their Truck, so depending on your comfort level that’s an option. If you’re in a car/truck, 4x4 is probably wise but mostly you just need to be able to handle steep inclines on a narrow road. Alexander, their guide, was also extremely lovely. The whole staff speaks Spanish.

I crossed here today from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan, the border was busy with pedestrians but guards opened each gate and let me through with my motorbike no problem.
Quite a thorough search on the Uzbek side mainly looking for Drones from speaking to the guard, all very friendly though, I did pay a 170000Som as part of the passport / customs checks, receipt was given for that so it seems a legitimate charge. all fairly quick.

I enjoyed this campsite very much, not only just because it's free but there is only a very short distance of gravel road to reach it, unlike other free campsites in Northern Vancouver Island. This makes it much easier driving a 2WD minivan. The campsite provides picnic table, fire pit and pit toilet. You are allowed to stay free for 14 days per year. A great lake side campsite.
