We parked in the spaces to the far south/east section of parking lot next to the opening to an open lot. I’d advise NOT driving into that lot to turn around. It is saturated with water and very muddy. There was a pickup blocking the entrance probably because of that reason. A little noisy because of the I-12 freeway running next to it, but the price is right. Thank you CB for allowing us to spend the night

Beautiful spot and it is EMPTY this time of year! I had unlimited choice in campsites and chose one with a gorgeous backdrop of the mountains. Heard only two other vehicles and saw one person walking a dog, other than that, just me and the coyotes for a few days. The snow has left some deep & soft mud ruts at certain sites. The main road is fine but I needed 4x4 to go back a bit.

As others have said, I’m sure this place is madness in the spring and summer. Definitely worth it to check out, though. I surprisingly didn’t see any trash.

We stayed at the bottom of the sand dunes. We drove about 5 minutes passed this location and found a flat spot sheltered from the wind. You can access the beach about 5 minute up the hill. You can get some cell service

Nice rest area. In Minnesota parking at a highway rest area is limited to 4 hours, but I have stayed overnight a few times at this particular rest stop.

Signage can be a bit confusing here, so I have included a picture confirming $6 for camping and petroglyphs with the "America the Beautiful" pass. That is the normal pass people under 62 have.
There is no signage about this discount at the campground, only at the day use area. I only looked around for it because other overlanders indicated this discount.

Wide open desert campground, but well spaced and not very busy on a Friday.
Looks like there is some BLM free camping across the main road, although with 4x4 entrances.

Great tourguides with perfect english speaking crew.
You can book online, really easy and was a great snorkeling with the whale sharks. They have a choice of different tours, the sealions snorkeling is possible, too. We booked three days in advance, but they have a lot of slots. Visit their page:

Nice spot between Ocean and Dune. You can easily swim and fish. Some mussels too.
No shade. Big rigs okay.
The access is a bit sandy but easy with a 4x4.

Don't go if it has rained a lot.
Nice left to surf if there is bit of swell.

Loved this campsite. Private ablutions are clean and really well thought out. Braai and kitchen space too. We called ahead on the day to check availability. Camp facilities great - swimming pool, well stocked bar and great sunset views from the rocks. Paid N$280 ppn.

Nice place, quiet. Nobody can see you if you park your car on the Rock to the left. Take the right track from the main road, and left on the Rock. It's better during the raining saison, to not be stuck in the mud.

Really good place to not miss if you are tired (just like us) of african cuisine. They is everything you want : french cuisine mostly but other stuff like burger or pizza, really well made. Even veggy burger available with tasty french fries. Everything is fresh and made on order so it takes a while but it is worth it, it is delicious. Plan at least 2 hours for the all experience. Good German beers. Prices are really decent, 3500 CFA for a pork stew with fries, for example. The owner Jan is an eccentric character how speaks multiples languages, Dutch, English, French and German. Nice guy. Nice food. Nice place.

Reaaaaaaallly slow place. Dont come here if you are in a hurry.
They also ripped me off : I paid 3000 CFA for 2 giga, my friend next to me paid 2000 for 2 giga. No explaination, just "you didnt order the same offer". Just ask for the price list before you paid anything, people here are not honest and dont seem to know their job. The woman also told me that I didnt buy enough data because Togolese Gigas were different than European Gigas... Best joke ever.

A place to avoid. We went there because we knew a friend how lived nearby the lake on top of the mountains. We didnt give a rat about that waterfall (how dare they call that a waterfall anyway... ) but we had to go through the gate to go to our friend´s place. They made us pay ! No way to take the road without paying ! Huge rip off. They asked 2500 CFA each... we paid 1500 after rough negociations. A lot of yelling going on, the "village gangsters" at the gate are super agressive and the money goes all in their pockets. Difficult to keep it calm there.
