Now costs 10,000 som. There is a toilet and a small rest area. The turn off can be tricky to spot due to the road woes going on. About 2km of BUMPY road but no major concern.

Concrete steps have been completed but only take you to the base of the tower. A wee bit of a “climb” to actually enter

Very nice spot to stay with great views. We had an iceberg in the bay. Locals come in the evening to enjoy the site too and are very friendly.

Ótimo lugar para dormir, seguro, com ducha e banheiros limpos, restaurante e posto 24h, possui água quente gratuita perto das duchas, um pouco barulhento devido a grande movimentação de caminhões, mas na região é o lugar mais seguro para ficar.

Called & stopped March 14, 2023. Noticed “no parking” signs across the entire Walmart parking area. Called again & was told by a different staff member that Walmart doesn’t care if RVs park there & Walmart doesn’t own the lot so RVs might get told to move along.

Saw the PetroCanada station around the corner allowed parking & stayed there with no problems.

Local tem várias sombras e me pareceu seguro.

Nice place, but we didn’t fit through the main entrance - our camper is 3,5 m high. They opened the gate of the adjacent lawn where we stayed. No electricity there, and meagre cell reception, but hot showers and clean toilets. Paid 2.300 for 2 + motorhome. Had a quiet night, guarded by a lovely watch dog :-)

Lovely place checked in here yesterday. While we wait for the weather to change, the ice to clear and we can get on the ferry. We soon realized that us and our vanagon had become a source of entertainment as everyone in the village took turns to drive past us and stare. They could at least have stopped and talked to us

Things have changed, it’s now CFAO…
So basically don’t go there.

We came with a list of parts to change (with Toyota diagrams and ref numbers). Ideally we wanted to have them changed there. We spent 2h of paperwork, with a dude checking our sound system while what we needed was bearings and drive shaft… it’s the procedure they say.

They asked us about how we would pay before even talking about the mechanics.

We refused to pay for a diagnostic (70’000kw) before we could speak to a mechanic, but they did it anyway (for free). They put the car on the lift, checked everything in 5 minutes without willing to talk with us about what we knew had to be changed.
An hour after, we had the quotation: 2’500’000kw just for the parts… basically they wanted to change everything that had a bit of rust…

After these 3h of nonesense we asked them to buy only the spares we needed (the one on our diagrams) and had to start the whole process again at the spare parts counter.

Finally, they do not accept cards, but we had a nice employee willing to take our euros and pay with his card.

Lots of effort for very expensive (but genuine) parts. Do yourself a favour and don’t waste your time here, unless you really need genuine parts (if they have them of course…)

New campground that's still being built. They say it should be complete in two months. The family running the place don't speak English but the guide who helps them speaks perfectly. I highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a little seclusion. 200 Birr if you have your own tent, 300 for the fixed tent.

It is a little tricky to find. I recommend asking one of the locals nearby for directions. There's a dirt road just before the road drops steeply leaving arba Minch.

Shops and food about 20 minute walk.

On the way to San José de Jachal, just after turning left on the RN150, there is a dirt road to the right. Follow it for a few hundred meter until you find the dry river bed. Go “up stream” for about 500mts, behind the hill you should have on your right. Same hill that protects the place from the night wind. There is some flat areas to park and trees around. By the river bed wall there is a couple of old water holes. Pretty cool to see. They were full of parrots when we were there. So beautiful.
Probably 4x4 required. Not recommended during rainy season; the river probably fills up with water.

Take care of the place, please don’t leave trash, feed some parrots and enjoy life.

You can park at the back and it’s not noisy. They have free water to refill your tank. The staff is very friendly and very happy to welcome us. Very good customer service! Food is expensive but they have huge servings and it’s really good especially the fish. Worth it. You don’t need to order food to park here overnight. It’s free and Julio even invited us for a free breakfast. We had a really great experience. Very good stop.

Great place by the lake as described. Wery beautiful. Nobody there. We have an 4*4 suv but not a problem to get there in 2*4 in this weather. It was a little wet which made our tires and shoes dirty but nothing bad. Plenty space, you can park in shade 50m to the lake which is probably a good choice.
We stayed on the shore and had a lot of small harmless bugs atracted to the light.

Outside of Rio Piedras, just before getting to the river, there is a intersection of roads. Plenty of space for cars or tents. Quiet during the night. There were big machines working on the river in the morning. Some people passed by, everyone seems very chill. Not a resort with spa but good enough for a night.

Please don’t leave trash and take care of the place. Enjoy life.

We spent one night here, it’s very peaceful. We arrived late so we met the park rangers in the morning. They are very nice and welcoming, gave us tips and recommendations for visiting Ecuador.
The parking space is big enough for several rigs, clean bathrooms and shower. Shower is at the building with the big veranda with animal photos. Cool water but it’s very refreshing given the heat.
Both trails were not cleaned all the way so the rangers told us to walk a bit and then come back the same way, otherwise it’s U-shaped trails.
We saw the little fox that came in the morning, one squirrel and many birds. If you want to see more birds wake up around 6.
