As others have said: water is swampy and very smelly. There is a sign saying it’s jot drinkable. Closest store is 20 miles away so bring everything. A bit crowded with families and kids who scream a lot! But their kids. Many folks with dogs. Says no alcohol but people ignore it. There are showers but not sure anyone would want to shower with swamp smelly water... there is a pier from the end of which I get one bar with T-Mobile otherwise no connection. All in all an acceptable place to camp for one or two nights. A “bill collector” comes every morning and gets your money. $10 for tents $20 for RVs.

Stayed here one night. Great setup with hookups, water, picnic tables, and grassy area for dogs. Felt very safe - highly recommend if you’re passing through. First night free, second night $50 - check in at hotel lobby upon arrival.

Went here to have our LR Defender Puma headlights checked which ceased to work correctly during the bad corrugation road from Moz. But CANNOT RECOMMEND!!
Sameer took the job and searched for the fault for over 3hrs, but didn’t initially find the fault. We left and he didn’t want to take money (no fix, no money). Then after about a half an hour he sent an SMS wanting to check again one thing and we went back. This time he found the fault, the combination indicator switch (which we had suggested to him in the first place). A new part from Malawi (Britpart, so not good) would’ve been $100, which is too expensive for a cheap and not great quality part), so he ended up doing a bush fix and bridgeing the wires so that our headlights worked again (just not the low beam). This solution was a bad mistake!!! It caused several short circuits that we had to sort out in Lusaka for over 1,5 weeks! Sameer also asked a lot from us how things went afterwards and promised several times to send us our money back beacuse he caused a LOT of trouble with bad decisions — but he NEVER DID!! Cannot recommend this place. Maybe when we drive through Chipata again we will go and fetch our money back…

Small local lodge right beside the Great East Road, few km from Chipata center. Almost opposite to Kigelia campsite (which is run down). Room was 300k. Clean room, no damp smells, etc. Restaurant can make simple, local dishes (i.e. Fish 70k). Ok choice if you don’t want to camp for a night. Friendly staff. Can also do your laundry.

Not a bad place to camp, if you’re there during weekdays and there’s no wedding. Otherwise you might not get too much sleep. We camped next to the bungalow where we could use the bathroom of a room. Unfortunately there’s a disco/ club next to the hotel. That said, that’s probably the challenge wherever you go on a Saturday.

Small grassy spot off of FR0101, many different spots between here and Levan, but this is what was open. Small firepits and a creek next to a beautiful rock face made this place home. Road accessible from Levan with AWD/4WD. Big rigs can access from Wales.

Beautiful views all around you but very windy. Was able to make it up there in our 4x4 sprinter van. Just be extra careful in the road because it definitely slants quite a bit. We took it very slow and was ok.

I been coming here off and on spending a night or 2 on each side of the high way. It’s a nice spot to rest for a bit but I suggest coming later at night and leaving early morning. Also try to part near the end so you don’t block other people there to use restrooms.

Approx 20km on gravel/rocky road from the town of Radium Hot Springs. Approx 5 free Campsites first come first serve with picnic benches and fire pits.. Some sites closer together than others. Dirt biking can be heard near by. Otherwise quiet lake. Stayed one night on weekend. Noted some other “unofficial sites” made and used by others. Would stay again. One bar of cellular service noted as well.
