A lovely park on lake with picnic tables, bbq pits and nice wharf. There are no signs anywhere saying no overnight camping. very level. Be warned that at night there are a lot of people coming and going. A neighbor told us in morning this area has drug dealing issues, which explained the traffic.

There are a lot of services in a 5 min walk. Mardens discount, restaurants, lounge. a special spot to mention is "Steaks and Stuff" grocery store. The ready made and deli options are excellent. A lot of gluten free options and an exceptionally clean and high quality grocery store.

Quiet street parking right near mirror lake. From May 1st-October31st, overnight street parking is allowed and free (except for on the Main Street).

Street lights made the space feel comfortable and safe without making it impossible to sleep. Other vans were on the street as well. We did one night, but could have spent a few nights here, with great ease to downtown Lake Placid and trailheads not a far drive away.

Six years after contributing this spot to iOverlander we are back. Same lovely spot, different car & season ànd now in the company of other overlanders 😊.

steps from the historic district, marinas, and bar/restaurants. if this one is full there are several other public lots. public bathrooms are in or near most of the lots. free parking, no signage prohibiting overnight parking, it was quiet and we slept great on labor day weekend.

Awesome spot. It’s open, flat, almost level (leveling jacks had no trouble making level), and there is plenty of room room to turn a big rig around. We fit in with a 44’ 5th wheel and truck (63’ total) with no problem. There is a fenced area and corral here, which gaiagps indicates as private property, but the open camp spot is forest service land.

While we were here some people came and dropped off cows in the corral. We asked them if they owned the property and minded if we stayed near their corral. They were not the owners, just using the corral with permission, but said they were aware this is NF land and no problem camping here. They also thanked us for asking. Nice people.

This is a beautiful spot. No one else here on Labor Day weekend. Very quiet, little traffic on Lightning Creek road. No traffic on the smaller FS road.

There is little to no cell service in this area. I saw one bar at times but mostly none. I did not try putting up the Weboost to see if that helped.

If staying in this area again I’d definitely come back here.

Fantastic spot, free and quite! 10min walking from the old Town! Just perfect. Thanks to the owner to give us the chance to stay here. There are free public washrooms at 300mt (cross the bridge and behind the big gray building on your left).

spent a quiet night here. beautiful setting. lots of people and kids in the park and at the playground until about 6pm then quiet all night. no one bothered us. signs only said keep vehicles off the grass.

Fill up with gas with a South African adapter. this is the only place we found during our 1 month stay in Moz. they also have CampingGaz bottles and accessories. very nice and helpful owner. next to the Total gas station. there is also a very good wash for the vehicle.

very nice place to stay right on a small lake. ideal before and after crossing the border. very friendly owner (even speaks German)

Pretty much what others have said. I want to add info about crossing with a dog.

We had a vet health certificate and a copy of her shot records. It cost $30 and nobody ever even saw the dog. Nothing about going to an “embassy.” Your mileage may vary but this was a super easy crossing with a dog.

The entry to the actual campsites had been flooded by the looks of it, and that made the entryway into the actual campsites impassible for a regular car. So we camped in the grass beside the picnic tables. Stayed overnight. Not a single other person came by, nor any car.
Aggressive swarms of mosquitoes as soon as we arrived, so we bedded down at sunset and locked them out as best we could.
Slept well, it was so quiet.
And you can't beat the price: free.
Both AT&T and T-Mobile had strong signals.

We drove around for a minute saw lots of options. this was a little bit more and Industrial but still close to the breakfast spot we wanted to be in the morning. We had a quite night with no issues but its worth noting there are a good amount of unhoused people around. I wanted to add this to show some downtown options on the map but there is plenty available around town...

Good place for a night. Can be seen from some streches of the road a bit further away but not if its dark and and you have curtains up while lights on. No Claro or Movistar reception. There are even flamingos in the lake!

There 6 spots or so here with full hook ups. Pay $20 at the city hall, there is a drop box.

Stayed here one night. We could have stayed at the waterfall, it felt safe there, but preferred here because we needed 4g signal to work. There was also another overlander staying at this square. Quiet and safe.

Asked for 10 pppn to stay in our van and finally arranged for 8pppn. The place is really nice and has everything you need (electricity, wifi, water, bathroom, kitchen, surfboards, etc.).
The owner and people working there are also very nice and willing to help with anything you need.

We were on a 6m long van and it was ok. Longer vans should have no problem. Bigger than that, it could be tricky.

Seems to be a great place this hostel, but as with everything, people make the difference. We were unlucky and the guy over there was rude and unwilling to help. Hope it is only momentary.
Stayed one night (it was late) and ran away from there.

Other than that, Guanico is a lovely place to chill and surf. You can stay elsewhere without needing to pay, we just needed electricity and wifi.

A second option for the Palgrave Forest and Wildlife area. This one is on Duffy Lane, much quieter than on Hwy 50. Parking Lot emptied before darkness and filled up again from 8.30 am (public holiday).
Night was super quiet, no street noise, just the forest and some train horns far away. No toilet as compared to the one on Hwy 50.

We stayed here almost for a week. Great place, quiet, safe, free, right in front of the beach.

Parking along the road, no « no overnight ». You have beach at two minutes. You also have a park for kids in front the lac. We stayed one night and it was quiet the night. Water and bathrooms at the beach !
