We went there on a Saturday. Not many people. Unfortunately, for most information, you have to scroll on monitors through news paper articles of those years, in Spanish.

Yes, a very nice campground. Old people get a $5 discount, bringing the price per night for non-hookup sites to $15 - an absolute smokin' deal for this part of the world. I think the discount is applied at all campgrounds in the OC Parks system.

Showers & bathrooms could be cleaner. There are portable toilets here and there - at least in the Live Oak Grove section. The one near me is way overdue for servicing.

Nice little park with bathrooms and water spigot. Good put-in to float the May River too. Had a conversation with a local that (in the most Southern way possible) explained that he had stuff stolen from van people and that he would call us in if we stayed longer than the posted 24 hours. We stayed two nights anyways.

We were surprised to find such a sweet spot so near to town - you are RIGHT on the shore of the lake. It was windy and rainy when we were here but still a beautiful, quiet spot. Room for 1 car/van comfortably or 2 if you are friendly.

A flat surface (sand and gravel) and sheltered by a little "hill" from the road. Quiet at night. Enough space for some tents.

Some ruins and one big house still standing just next to the road to paso socompa. It look like a old worker camp.
I set my tent inside the room at the back that is the cleanest and the biggest. Perfect wind protection.
There is pit toilet 20m from the house.

For those who cycle to/from paso socompa the road is realy beautiful, especially the view from the top of the salar, but the road itself is realy hard to cycle, lot of soft gravel and sand and of course washboard nearly all the way. Still worst the effort!

This was an interesting experience. Arrive with a smile, but prepare a Plan B. The owner is a bit funny, her daughters are fine. The woman doesn’t seem to want campers there. She doesn’t want you to use electric (there are MANY outlets to plug in). She doesn’t want you to use the pool. However, we stayed 5 nights and it was a lovely place. With our hose we could fill water from several sinks. We took outdoor cold showers which were refreshing. And one night she let us use the pool. Beware of parking under the mango tree and the purple olive tree. And good luck with this one

The office is called banjercito and easy to find with this location here. You can do first a photocopy of your passport, visa, driver licence and registration of the car. Then you go to the counter and pay the temporary vehicle permition (around 50 usd) and pay the deposit (200-400 usd). Your visa you can get here as well or right at the border.

Cyclists. We asked to the hotel: they allowed us to put our tent on the grass close to the hotel. Good wind protection, great for overnight stay. We were allowed to use the toilets too. Very friendly people.

Few alarm bells raised by the old lady who sells the SOAT at the border.

First of all she charges $20 for one month. Extortionately high! In the end we bought 3 months for our Minivan in Trujillo for around $15.

Secondly this is the only local shop I've encountered where they sell SOAT to foreign plated vehicles. All the other small shops we went to they told us we need to go to La Positiva main office in a town/city for a foreign vehicle. What makes her so special? Is it even valid insurance?

In the end we didn't buy it here as we didn't have enough dollars leftover from Ecuador and they don't accept card and there are no ATM's. They tried to scare us a little and say there is a police checkpoint down the road that will check insurance but they never checked us for insurance. We drove to Trujillo and bought it the following day. I guess it's a good way to sell overpriced insurance to foreigners at the border.

This border crossing (from ECU->COL) was one of the easiest so far! We were here Sunday 5 p.m. and there were no cues at all. It took us maybe 30 min to enter Colombia.
After the Colombian Migration make sure to get copies at one of the small shops of the following documents:
- passport
- Colombian migracion stamp in passport
- Car papers / matricula
- driver's license

Same as below, allowed to stay inside their walled and gated compound overnight, quiet and secure. Much better option when sun is already down and next safe place is 66km away. Kind customs chief.

Smaller rest area that is more quiet, therefore I felt weird making noise to open and close my squeaky door to pee at night. A sheriff drove through around 8pm. Seems to be a mix of locals and travelers. Saw an RV and two vans at the Walmart nearby in Oregon but didn't stay as I read of the cops giving tickets out during the night.

Nice Safe place in front of the beach.
There’s a canopy made of wood and coconut leafs right on the sand, in between the hostel and the pizza. It’s a public place, as well as the parking lot, so was nice and free. No services.

The staff of the zoo is very nice and they explain a lot. It‘s very informative. They have even very big sea turtles in small tanks, not much space for them.

New owner Raul took over and re-opened mid November 2019. He speaks English and was very helpfull. He is still working on the site to get everything properly up and running.
We couldn‘t access electricity from all sites (plugs not connected everywhere) and therefore he gave us a cable as extension to ours so we could connect at the house.
Bathrooms were still in „repair“ mode (no shower curtains) but usable.
Washing maschine was standing in the yard but not connected (will probably be thrown out).

Price is now ARS 200 pp/night + ARS 100/night for our motorhome. No free nights for iOverlander users anymore.

Chill spot with a funny security guard. He didnt really know what to do.. we asked if we could park for the night & he said no ... after a bit of confusion and flustering about he said ok, for 50 pesos! We laughed and shared a coffee then went about calling it a night. Nice place thats safe with beautiful stars!! I feel like this place will be shut down soon because of the sketchyness of the situation! So make it less sketchy and visit the Cenote in the morning :)

We arrived at 11:00 on Sunday. We were told the ferry to Larantuka would leave at 14:00, but that it was full. We should come back for the Tuesday ferry, tickets for sale on Tuesday from 10:00 onward or wait for standby. We decided to wait and when we talked with the new ticket selling person after a shift change (who spoke some English) he was prepared to sell us a ticket (about IDR 1.500.000 for 2 persons and a campervan). Eventually the ferry left at 19:00. The very dirty ferry had seats, some rows of matrasses and a shop selling almost nothing, but at the terminal food was sold in abundance. We managed to pop up the roof of our car and sleep in it. We probably had the most comfortable accommodation of the entire vessel. Sailing took 13 hours.
