Arrived at 5p and saw a sign at the office to park anywhere and to give them a call. Left a message and heard back around 8p. Easy check-in, $35/night with electricity. Water available. Spotty free wifi. Hot 🚿 $1/5min. Seems like there are quite a few long-term residents. Okay for a night when you need power for heat.

Okay rooms for 15.000 or 20.000 including a fan, basic bathroom and mozzy net. Very very noisy though since there is a bar attached and also behind the hotel seems to be some loud bar. Next to the main road, no need to enter the village. The GPS took us to the wrong side!

As mentioned there's 22 sites around the lake. Awesome camp spots, so amazing they're free. On a Friday afternoon a ranger did stop by my camp spot and have me fill out a form with address and name and posted on the camp post with the date I'm leaving. Very nice, she said she can't believe the number of solo female travelers that have been through the area lately and loves it. My camp spot was by some big RVs with noisy generators, but still good privacy and flat ground and feels safe. It's hit or miss with cell reception. Beautiful camp spots. Pretty easy well maintained dirt roads. You'll know the camp spots off the main road because there are little brown sign posts with camp spot numbers. An outhouse and trash can at each "hub" of camp spots. And each spot has picnic table and fire ring.

I had a great 7 night stay here on my way up Mozambique, and just stopped in for the night now in my way back! Rebecca the manager is great and the staff are super friendly. The camps are nice, shaded and grassed, mostly on a bit of a slope which makes for some maneuvering for my RTT. Showers are warmed by a donkey so I had a couple of unpleasant cold ones, but most hot. Over all had a great stay.

Unfortunately friends I made here had $200 stolen from their room. Also had a guy showing a lot of interest in my camera, we thought he was completely friendly, but security came and threw him out. So be careful with your valuables.

We stayed in the parking lot below the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse for 4 nights. The official stay is 3 nights anywhere outside of city limits, but I don’t think there is any enforcement. It was a fabulous spot with great views and it was a great experience. We used the car to experience the whole area.

From Al Ammariyah follow the unpaved road through the wadi to the escarpment. 4 wheel drive not necessary but would be preferable.

There are a few shaded trees to stop for lunch in the wadi on the way to or from the overlook.

This hotel is at the north end of Oaxaca in a very industrial looking area but has 20' walls and is highly secured. We made Oaxaca by nightfall and did not make our planned camp an hour further north. Luckily we found this place hosted by Antonio and his very friendly family. At 535 pesos with tax for a room our rig was secure and we were past the Oaxaca traffic heading north in the morning. That price was on hotels dot com but you could call Antonio directly or whatsapp him at +52 55 3566 1320

Not fancy but very secure, hot showers, wifi in shared areas, TV, king Bed.

After talking with him he is open to parking rigs for 250 and is planning to build a bathroom facility for those services in the future. Plenty of space for all sized. Big rigs may need to back out.

There are a lot of streets with unrestricted parking. Just keep an eye out for street cleaning. Neighborhood is fine, and no issues spending the night. A bit noisy on Friday night with foot traffic. We are in a truck camper, we stood out a bit. I would not come in anything bigger.

Antonio and his family are just getting this back up and running after Covid. For the hotel info click the hotel icon.

Antonio Speaks hood English! **There is a height limit** Looks like about 12 feet. Info requested, will update.

Surprise place in a very industrial looking area. When the 20 foot gate opens there is plenty of concrete and grass and for 250mx he will allow you to park any rig and be very secure. This place is on the way out of Oaxaca to the North (Puebla/Mexico City). We made Oaxaca by dark but did not make our planned camp. This place has 20' walls and gate. Pretty inexpensive way to keep your rig very secure in the city if you want to head north in the am. Huge rigs may need to back out until some clearing is done.

For now its just safe parking and wifi without showers/bathrooms unless you pay the 500mx for a room. But Antonio has space and plans for those type of facilities and has improvements going forward at this time for many upgrades.

You should call him with your specific needs as he is very accommodating. I will include his mobile/whatsapp number.

Grass car park quite near the pub - note that it isn't clear whether this is a public car park or not, but overnighting is allowed. Several other vans were there, and there is a 24 hour toilet and water tap nearby. Reasonably flat, amazing views, a bit exposed to strong winds. There were also places on the approach road where some vans stayed overnight.

Campsites with beautiful views. We had a truck bed camper and stayed on site 6 for 3 nights. Very rough road to get up to sites 4-7 - no RVs up there as they would not make it. Saw RVs on the other side sites 8-27. No bathroom up by sites 4-7. Bathroom is at the entrance at the bottom of the hill. Glad I had a camping toilet. Never drove to other side, so don’t know if they had toilets on that side. Night sky was unbelievable.

This is a restaurant close to the main road, we asked to the manager for a place where we could stay at night and he offered us a place on the backside of his restaurant for free. It is a little noise but for one night is ok. The restaurant opens 24 hours.
