I don't find this spot to be at all private, you're literally right in the middle of all businesses. I was very skeptical staying here but it's the only spot in this area and it was already late to go to the campground. Luckily, the aquarium is closed the next day, so it may be less crowds and less noticeable. However, it's super noisy in the morning. To make sure I don't get complaints or ticket, I left before 8am and moved to the trail head by the end of the road. People started to come at 7:30am. There's "no camping" sign by the trail head, and it's so close to a private house, so not possible to park there overnight, same for the other end of the road toward Gros Mourne Adventure. If you come to park here, come late and leave early, maybe possible during weekday when businesses are not busy, I do not recommend parking here during weekend. Make sure to check out the trail, very beautiful view of the village and the bay. On the other end of the road, you can see Bonne Bay and the table mountains. Overall, I do not recommend parking here, I didnt feel relax staying here overnight. It's a safer bet to go to the campground, you can see "no camping" signs pretty much everywhere in this little town, I think they're fed up with ioverlander people, especially peak season.

Lots of street parking on Dory Passage street. No street signs on certain sections, safe neighborhood. Stayed one night in a Class C with no issues.

You have to register for this campground of recreation.gov. If you have a federal access pass it is 1/2 price, current 30 (just electric) or 35 (water and electric). I did not need electric but they do not have non electric sites. The female host was friendly. I was able to get a site by the lake and the sunset was beautiful. It is dark in the campground at night, great for stargazing...if you don't care about the biting flies (these things were on you like mosquitos). We had a peaceful night and the first time I heard the train was just before 7am. The female showers were OK, nothing special (2 showers in the female bathroom).Took a while to get hot, but it finally did. They have water around the canpground and a full spot at the entrance/exit. They lock the front gate at 10pm. The one issue I saw was the only "accessible" sites are water and electric. So you have to pay extra, even if you don't want it, if you need that site.

I added photos from my stay.

About 650 m off Highway 17 there's this spot where the gravel road widens and you can easily park 2-3 cars on the side of the road without disturbing anyone. Trees are cut around here (grass area now), allowing to have long sun and to help the wind keeping away bugs.
No one bothered us, only one car passed. Perfect for a night of rest. Road noise was minimal with the distance to the highway.
Good cell service. Road is the public access to a camp site / lodge further in. More potential spots closer to the highway, too, but not as nice.

There are two main paved lots. The one on the south side of Ferry St is well lit at night and close to the washroom attached to a snack shack. The washrooms are open dawn to dusk. the lot on the north side is dark at night and less busy. We stayed in the north lot and had a quiet night. There's open WiFi available.

At Y junction of Dore River FSR about 8km from highway there is a nice grassy area with a rock fire pit and some firewood. Looks like people occasionally car camp here, but very clean so help keep it so! Very quiet at night, only a few pickups during morning and evening associated with logging.

A small roadside park with a dozen spaces, a had water pump, a trash can, three picnic tables, clean pit toilets, and a squadron of persistent mosquitoes. Subject to traffic noise ( quiet at night), equipped with a dedicated dog walk and pleasant river view makes for a useful overnight stop. No signage prohibiting overnight parking.

Just a little flat pullout big enough for a sprinter, accessible with 2wd. Nice and quiet, no bugs today. Road is a bit bumpy but not too bad. Good for a night.

Nice and quiet. I’m not sure if I’m technically allowed to be here, since I did see all the dawn to dusk signs though...

Nice little restaurant with outside terrace. They have fresh coffee (with cafetiere) and also good food (1000-2000cfa). Open 9-22h. And next door there is a pizzeria and hotel, owned by the same Gabonais who lived his life in Houstan, Texas, very friendly guy!

Nice place to see some very impressive petrified trees. Nice guide. We payed 100,- pp. and didn't negotiate. Compared to the 250,- you pay at the other place, it was worth coming here.

right off mount rose highway, we pulled in around 7 last night, saw one camper van, we drove past, road is rocky but no 4x4 needed imo, at least when it's dry... cool spot, definitely road noise during the day, very quiet at night. a few trails and fire pits here and there. Great verizon 4glte/5g flickering. was able to run think or swim on my laptop from the Verizon mobile Hotspot no problem. woke up to a great sunrise, managed some trades and went back to bed. Will return if in the reno carson area as the desert side is a bit harsh and trashy.

The roadside parking along Dayville between the hatchery and the campground is unlimited and made for an acceptable hasty overnight. Plenty of space to parallel park even a semi truck. Verizon signal was strong. Road noise was bad. Seagull noise was unreal.
