nice place.... and really amazing owner. He took us to the mountains (yes... I paid him). but still I totally recommend it! if you want to climb the mountain I wouldn't want to go alone...

The surrounding area has been burned, presumably for fuel reduction. A small area around the lake is unburned but the majority is covered in ash and it’s quite smoky. Looks like a great spot under normal circumstances though!

This place was nice and quiet. Not too many people around. Our dogs loved exploring this area. It’s a perfect place for outdoor cooking as they provide a grill to put over the fire pit. We made a same day reservation and there was a lot of available spots. It said the gate closes at 8pm but we got there at 8 sharp and didn’t see it was closed which was a relief because we weren’t sure how we would’ve got in, the reservation confirmation only gave us the codes for the bathrooms. There’s water, trash cans, bear safe containers. It’s super wooded so plenty of privacy but also not ideal for starlink. Overall good spot will return.

Extremely quiet for how many ppl are tucked away here. I usually like to avoid populated spots, but we didn’t want to keep driving late into the night, and so pulled in at 10pm. I could see this place being busy on the weekends and at certain of the year, but a sunday in mid-April was perfect. I would stay here again as a pass-through. Google maps took us on a pretty rough (short) stretch of road to get here off of I-25 heading north, but we handled it fine with our Volkswagen Atlas (all-wheel) and 5x10 trailer.

Great campsite on Soap Lake. 21 facing the lake $30 full hookups and 6 near the road $22. Makeshift steps into the lake, 2 swinging chairs, outside gym equipment and a covered bench. Beautiful setting. Washrooms and showers can be opened on request out of high season.

There are several dispersed sites with stone fire rings along Cross Timber Rd once you cross into the national forest. There are also several spots with picnic tables at the trailhead proper. The road is paved until it crosses Cane Creek. After the creek, turn right. There are a couple steep sections that are somewhat loose but not overly rocky or rutted, doable in promaster. Slowish Verizon service.

The pictures and descriptions suggest you drive towards the Hotel and that you can park your RV or roof tent car on the parking lot. NOT ANYMORE.

Take the same exit from the road but instead of going right towards the hotel the Clamping is at the left hand side sign posted “Glamping”. The office is at the old English red telephone booth.
WiFi available, open air hot shower and one bathroom. Simple, but clean. And level parking.

At the main road is a or more restaurants. Salento is only 10 minutes away. And this place is better than the town iOverlander camping with no level parking.

I payed Cop 30.000 per night for one person in a rooftop tent.

Paraiso en El Campo

We just ended up at this place, because they have a metal bee and a sign at the entrance, wich says, that they sell honey. Since we’re beekeepers ourselves, we just drove in there and after a nice chat we eventually got stuck for four days & nights. Rafael and his family are gorgeous and friendly people and before we were able to plan or think, we were in somehow part of this nice group of people. We made tours around their campo, wich includes their own piece of jungle, went to visit other family members houses, went to the hot springs at night, worked on our car together and helped them out with processing cañas into sugar. As we found out later, Rafael is a certified tour guide and in general, the whole family knows a lot about the nature of the area. And they keep something like 17 (!) different kinds of (wild)bees, wich was just crazy for us to see. Simply super interesting and kind people.
We recommend to make a stop here if you pass by. You can get some delicious honey, some good experiences and maybe find some new friends. As well you can make guided hikes (even several day hikes to get really into it ;-) and get some good infos about Costa Rica.

Entering the property only with small 4x4 or by feet. No big rigs possible. Not a real campground, but if you’re nice, you’re welcome to stay. Price for this is negotiable. Even a warm shower or a rentabel cabaña is accessible. Price for rooms 25-40$. National park Amistad is 15km away where also another cabaña for up to 10 persons is available. They just speak Spanish and if you want, you can eat together with them for a small price.

If you’re a bit open minded and kind, you’ll love this far-away-from-commercial-tourism-experience. Enjoy!

Just your typical truck stop. There's decent reception here (4 bars Verizon), which is why we stopped. It's not fancy, but the lot is large and relatively level.

if you REALLY like being alone this is your place.
you drive 8.9 miles up south Oatman road, a dirt road that will take you 25 minutes, I averaged 15 MPH.
the road is pretty navigable if you go slow. but as said on another location, don't do it when rain is coming.
the only bad rocky section is right in front of where I camped, it goes for another 100 feet then looks like it smoothes out again after that, then your in farmland

There are some flat spaces to place tents between the rocks next to the parking lot. hidden enough.

To access this you need to pass between some concrete blocks just before the parking lot.
You will see a flat space without stones, in a glade, but there are other places, smaller and closer to the water.
The only issue with this place is that there are several beer cans on the ground, indicating that some people also use it to get used to hang out.

Unmarked spur roads. Easy to miss. Surprising amount of people given the remote location. No TMobile. Basic BLM camp with concrete tables and fire rings.

We went up to Monte Binga in one day. It was quite a hike, and it was also for our guide the first time. The landscape and the view are incredible. It's totally worth it for a visit. If you are thinking of sneaking past the base camp, I would recommend it. There are many rangers in this area and when they see you without a guide, you will have a problem.

Park entrance fee is still 10 USD pP, guide 5 USD pP
