Located within the Cape Coast Technical Institute grounds, this is a fantastic garage. Trained staff who do a fantastic job, with the help of the kids who observe and assist as requested. They will work on any car, not just Toyota's, but I took my Hilux there and over a few hours they fixed a power steering leak, did a full oil change, fuel filter change, and greased the axles. Very thorough and proper job. Not the cheapest but they did a very good job, and the children get to learn at the same time which is excellent.

This seems to be a checkpoint that checks absolutely everyone. The officer spoke English. Passports were checked and they looked in the back of our truck camper before letting us go.

As reported, this is a nice little spot for the night. You can still hear the interstate traffic, but much better than staying at the Hwy rest areas. It fit our truck camper just right. No one bothered us.

Great spot, first one is very private, no outhouse. Amazing sunset due to smoky skies. River is super high, lots of debris floating, not really accessible atm. Second spot is bigger and a bit more open. No cell service.

Just off of Highway 50, huge gravel parking lot. This place is a quirky little bar and restaurant. The food is great and the portions are large. Bathrooms are clean, air-conditioning is cold. They have live entertainment on the weekends. Motel rates start at $40 per night. Located out in the middle of nowhere, this is a great little spot to pull over for the evening and boondock or rent a room for a shower and a break from the road.

We rode this road today by bike. When you come from Flores roadworkers are paving the road now with supersmooth asphalt. They have done about 6 km now and after that it ‘s recently graded.
When you ride from the other direction it is a bumpy and rocky dirtroad indeed but there are big billboards that they will pave the complete road.

The route is beautiful. All the people where very friendly, waived or used their honks. You pass a few little villages with tienda’s, comedors and schools.
Absolute the opposite of sketchy …

By chance we met the owner of this little Cabañas, very nice people. We only asked for a safe and nice place to stay overnight and they let us stay in front of the hut...and use their HotTub, which was amazing. As we where the first Overlanders, they didnt know about the prices. Alternatively, you can book one of the really nice Cabañas.
You need to make a call/whatsapp ahead, as they are not there all the time: Gladys Oliva +56949660861 // Facebook: Centro Turistico Mayu Wasi

Thermal spa with hotel and restaurant. They have a main pool(6s/p), small personal pools in rooms(8s/p/25min) and cave saunas with 38,45 and 55 degrees(12s/p/25min). The main pool was closed due to maintenance during our visit. Also the whole place looked like it is under construction. But it was a nice stop.

Works as well with a rooftop tent. Street ist very quiet during night. But the few cars passing by, are quite curios about people camping there.

We found it very difficult to find a place to stay in Brighton and be able to walk into town. We tried the campsite very near this point, but they charged $60(!) per night for a spot with an awning. We saw many campervan/busses parked here and talked to one of the people that 'lives' here. It's perfectly fine to overnight here. It's free from 4 pm until 9 am. In between you pay, but we don't know how much. It's a 45 minute walk to the pier or city centre from here and actually quite nice as you can walk along the beach. There is a Lidl supermarket nearby, and after the people playing sport left it was super quiet. You're in the middle of a big park to have a picknick, there's a playground for kids, etc. Really recommend it!

As described. Nice grassy spots to sit by the river. Many song birds in the area. Spent one night in our campervan.

Smooth 1 1/2 hr crossing from Honduras to Nicaragua starting at 7:45AM. We read every comment for both pins on this border, scroll down to la_fordtuga's excellent description for the most accurate. Here is what we would add:

-We did not do the Nicaragua pre-check. This did not present any issues, immigratiom agent just asked our occupations. Immigration was complete in 20 minutes.
-In terms of customs and vehicle search, we were asked 3 different times by 2 different people of we had a drone, we answered no honestly as we had shipped it ahead. Also asked about cameras, answered honestly that we had one, they did not ask to see it. Never asked about binoculars, something else we were worried about/had read about. Search of the vehicle was pretty cursory, looked in a few drawers, but no removing bags that are packed in in several places in our truck.
-We did not need to go through the scanner, and never needed to make any copies. Customs and issuing TIP took 30 minutes.
-Make sure to get $12 USD insurance from lady at restaurants just after exiting port area. (Left of Bienvenidos sign over road) Cop stopped us at a checkpoint 30 miles down the road and asked for it, first document check of entire trip for us.
-We needed $48 USD in total for crossing with 2 people including insurance.

Quick and efficient WU at this Carrefour. It doesn’t seem to have any cash limit. The lot is massive, although there are only two spots where taller vehicles can enter. The lot has a lot of parking.

Marcelo is great and speaks some English. I've replaced the front cover grill and the suspension (back and front).

I was communicating over WhatsApp and Marcelo was informing me about the prices of the repairs.

He is a cool and calm person. Everything was fixed withing one day.

Free eletric point at Independence Square just behind the playground and close to the no-stop sign. We managed to stop on the right side where there was a sign saying that vans were allowed to stop on that side and we pulled the extension to the socket. worked well!

What an incredible camp site. We loved being in the forest by the stream. Gorgeous. Would definitely recommend. There was a bit of litter when we arrived but nothing too bad. Was a bit more private than the pull overs along the road.

Gravel lot in front of the (closed down) Brumley Swinging Bridge. The road down is gravel and pretty rutted up, but if you're not in a hurry, it's passable. There us private property on one side of the lot, so I parked on the far side, a little in front of a rutted road leading down to the water. Stayed one night. No one bothered me. No cell reception, so plan accordingly.

Very nice waterfalls. The road to get there is rough, local comes with little chevy but high clearance recommended. Not for big rv at all. Slippery rocks and river crossing.

The entrance to the falls is 10000 per person and we paid 8000 for parking. You can easily spend half day to a day here.

Awesome place. around 15 USD/night (300 pesos in 2023) for private room with fireplace. Beautiful garden with basic kitchen and very friendly owners.
warm shower, motorcycle parked safe from rain.

possible to share a 3 bed room that costs around 23 USD (500 pesos in 2023)

san mateo overall is by the way a much nicer town than San Jose because of the weather which tends to be much better here because lower elevation, awesome sunsets.
