The owner seems to have understood that he can take advantage of travelers... now he takes 25000COP per night and per vehicle without service and for ultra noisy spot (dog and road). We advise against it! The parking outside in front (only one place) is really on the side of the road (very noisy) and not sure that it allows it now.

absolutely gorgeous spot and campground! it was still closed when we visited (may 2023) and when we called they didn't know when it would be opening for the season. we spent the night at the boat dock for two nights and there were flat enough spots to park. there is another free campground nearby called Jackson's Island that should be open, recommended by a local guy. the number I called to check if the campground was the one I found on the Google listing!

What a great find not far off I-40. (Make sure you go to Barstow then north because Google Maps has another crazy route it might send you on.) $6/night or $3 with an access pass. Sites are nice with a covered picnic table, fire pit with half grill top, and separate charcoal grill. Pit toilets are fine. Water spigots didn’t work while we were there. There is a trailhead right off the campground. But the views from the sites are spectacular, especially as the sun set. We had a great view of Mars and loved when the bats came out. Another camper said the bees are bad in late summer, but we didn’t have biting anything.

It's still here. Very basic. 20 bolivianos pp. Not super clean, no showers, toilets have water and do flush.
Great courtyard for bicycles.

Unique restaurant of the village of Quigao (it is well marked). Food is on-demand (if it look closed, find the lady in the neighboring house). I had a trucha frita for 10 soles. Breakfast can also be served on demand. The restaurant is located on the opposite end of the village than the hospedaje, near the exit of town going towards Sihuas.

They are also a few bodegas/tiendas in town - but opening hours might be tricky as most seems closed during daytime.

They are two hospedaje in town (none of them are marked). This one is the smaller one I believe.
Very basic, shared bathroom with electric showerhead. Plenty of blankets on the beds.
30 soles. This one in located at one end of town - on the way out to San Miguel.

The other hospedaje has a big metal rounded roof (hard to miss). The only other building with that kind of roof structure is a town gymnasium (both are couple meters away). Didn't go to this one has the owner was out when I arrived.

No claro reception in town - or in the area.

I've been there yesterday, and everything mentioned before is really true.
5 RVs was there for the night, no problem and a full section of the parking is reserved for the RV . I recommended. for free night sleeping.

We stayed for 5 nights. 25,000 pesos per night. Clean bathrooms. The pool is not in use at this time of year. Very nice hosts, good communication and good access to the city centre.

First spot after the 0.5 mile no camping limit. Space for 3-4, not suitable for large rigs. Road is a little tricky and sandy. Definitely a no for 2WD when wet/snow. We managed in a Ram Promaster 2WD, but definitely wouldn't go beyond that spot. Nice views for sunset. Enjoy!

We did the road coming from Huaraz until Huallanca. Great views and many tiny tunnels.
We could still see the rest of the landslides, but they were working on it and the road was easily doable with a 2WD.

We did the 3pm "highlight" tour. Great tour, absolutely recommendable. There is also an "offbeat walk" at 10 am. You should be there shortly before, no booking necessary. The tour lasts about 2.5-3 hours. If you liked it, it is recommended to give 10.000-20.000 pesos. For us it was absolutely worth it. The meeting point is in front of the museum entrance.

We spent the night in the back of the parking lot. At the entrance, it is indicated that the rate is 300 pesos for the night. But, we arrived at 5:00 p.m. and there was no more guard at the gate. The next day, nobody asked us anything so the night was free for us. Entrance to the site is 530 pesos for adults, free for children under 13 years old. We definitely preferred this site over Chichen Itza. By visiting it at the opening, we were practically alone.

Stayed here for one night as it was so close to White Sands. Great spot and perfect place for sunset. The air base is close by so during the day you can hear the planes but at night it was pretty quiet. There were a few others here, but the space is spacious so we all had our own areas, felt safe.

Such a beautiful caravansary. We got here during lunch time and spend all day and night alone with no one else around. The light during sunset and stars at night are incredible.

Just about ok for a tent! It's a nice quiet spot but better for vehicles than tents due to hard surface. We arrived on bicycles in the fog/rain and tucked into one of the cleared corners to avoid the worst of the puddles & mud. our tent stands without pegs so we were ok. Slept well with minimal noise from the trucks on the main road. our tent & clothes dried well in the morning sun. would stop here again as there isnt much else around!

Spigot is in a wood box out back against the building. I asked to use water while purchasing gas (cash only) the young lady was quick to tell me I couldn’t fill up here so I left without any gas or water. She was unpleasant. Hard to find water in Taos. @explore_RLT
