As others have described.

We had our luggage and truck thoroughly searched at the border for drones (Rwandan side).

Nice but only for truck campers. I have a pull behind 26ft TT and it was tough to turn around and tuck in a pullout right next to the path going to beach.

nice flat camping area. it's off the road. very quiet except for the rushing creek. I came here right after a storm so everything was damp. the climb to the flat from the road is short, maybe 200 feet. I have an X5 with AWD but I think even a sedan can make it up to the flat. if you're worried, just park before and walk up a bit with your stuff.

as others have mentioned, there are trees too provide shade and there is a fire ring. the clearing is just dirt. like mining tailings. so no brush. very nice.

It is a great place to camp near Crystal Mountain and the Sunrise Entrance to Mt. Rainier. Several spots are close together to the left, and a few are more secluded to the right off the main entry road.

Not bad but by the road and noisy traffic. You may as well stay at one of the other places close by for free.

The road is around 2km long and unpaved but does not require 4x4. There are a number of places to park, some more exposed than others. Some locals use as a shortcut but as its unpaved speed is kept down. Had a quiet night here.

Decent spot to spend the night, there’s a parking attendant who’s there from about 8.30am to 6pm, he told us to park on the right hand side as you approach the end of the parking lot as there’s the security for the hotel and they have cameras on that side. Felt safe enough, not super flat though.

Really good place for a night.
The highway noise didnt bother us and the gravel road is pretty good.

Nice place next to the road, there is another one just like it a bit down the road. It has lots of benches a toitoi toilet and lots of grass to put a tent up on. Also place is popular, 3 camper and 3 tents when I got there.

its a big dugout with a few bushes and pile of sands. Use the pile of sand and you are not going to be seen from the road. It also blocks the wind decently. Super quiet. No signs that indicates private property.

Vehicles might be seen.

I think this place is no longer accessible, its place been taken by the observation tower. You could probably camp on the grass near the tower, but no longer legally drive down. Also in the parking lot you could park a camper van.

Lovely view. We are lucky to be guests in this special place. Support the community by graciously paying fees to sleep on their land, buying art, and/or eating locally. We bought an ulu from Josephine and ended up spending the afternoon chatting about life in Tuk. She dropped by later with a gift of wild cranberries. Thanks, Josephine!

Spot looking on the beach. Some houses in the neighbourhood and some people walked by. Was no problem to spent a night here.

One of the better free campgrounds next to the La Plata River, multiple spots for any size of vehicle.
Site 1 is beautiful and next to the river bank.
No cellphone but Starlink works great

National Forest Campground. There are lots of sites in three loops. Well spaced between sites and some with free fire wood. Typical campsites, Picnic table, fire pit, pit toilets. We arrived on a Friday evening at 5 pm and there were lots of sites available. $18 per night. Cash only.

ATM where you can withdraw money with Mastercard without fee. Worked for N26 Mastercard (while it didn't work in Potosí for example)

A gravel lot right off the road, it goes in a circle so just spin around until you find a spot you like. alright for one night. not private and pretty close to the road. also a lot of flies in the area so don't recommend leaving your door open for any reason.

Beautiful spots along the river. Eagles & ducks & geese & other waterfowl. Amazing sunrises & spectacular sunsets. Picnic tables & pit toilets & trash cans & river access! No dump or potable water.
There are maybe 20+ spots. Half are east of the boat ramp & pretty obvious. About 5 of these spots had trailers with no occupants all week.
Then there's the loop west of the boat ramp. It's only accessible via the parking lot, which has a large "no camping in parking lot" sign at the front. This loop is much closer to the river and heavily wooded. The mosquitos are also much worse, and the chance of flooding is real.
There were only one or two spots that had enough sun for good solar charging. Starlink was strong, as long as you can snag a riverside spot.
The river flooded while we were there! If there's a chance of flooding, beware, and monitor the Manitou Rapids river gauge. When it rose above 12.5', the west campground started to flood. At 15', the campsites nearest the river & boat launch started to flood. That's when we bailed. Stay frosty!
Locals were all super friendly. And despite some other campers leaving their rigs unattended all week & bringing loud generators & kids & dogs, they at least were very kind folks who all helped each other out when the water rose.

Carlos Martin worked meticulously on our car, front and rear brakes, repairing the locking - unlocking system to switch to 4x4 or 4x2 which no longer worked, and changing oil of the gear and transfert boxes. He appreciated that we made an appointment by telephone : +51 956 684 492.

BEAUTIFUL! One of our favorite spots. It was a gravel road getting down, but it was easy. We saw quite a few low clearance vehicles coming and going. The camps are relatively close together but not so close that you feel you’re on top of each other. Only major downside is that it gets super busy on the weekends.

Great spot on the ocean. Free spot with fire rings, tables and an out house. Around 8 spots or so if I remember correctly. I recommend this camp site

we camped here last night. The guard when he saw our motorcycle made big sign so we can enter and sleep here. We put our tent for free. The guard gave us some food, left at 7pm we had the whole place for us. He came back at 8am. Quiet and little hidden from main road.

We must pay 108som or $10 per car, they visited us at 19:00. They showed us a "National Park ID", and gave us a "recipe". Maybe we get scammed.

we did not manage to go all the way to the river due to low branches on the road (we had bikes on car). But we stayed on the side of the dirt road, which was nice as well. Only 3 cars went past.
